Bahia Principe Escape Sian Ka'an

Firstly, it’s worth mentioning that I appreciate many returning guests are unhappy about the changes coming into effect on 1st November following the takeover by Hyatt. We heard numerous guests sharing stories about how luxurious the hotel “used to be”. Reading some of the reviews before travelling could certainly be concerning, but I’ve always preferred to make up my own mind rather than rely solely on other people’s opinions. After all, everyone’s experience is different! I booked just four days before departure, so I was fully aware of the negative reviews before making my decision. Location and Facilities The hotel itself isn’t located directly on the beach but is set in a wonderful jungle setting, packed with wildlife. Be sure to bear this in mind when choosing your insect repellent! If, like me, you love a pool holiday, this resort is perfect. A shuttle bus takes you to the hotel’s section of the beach within the Akumal resort, with buses running approximately every 15 minutes. Alternatively, you can walk there in around 25 minutes. I enjoyed walking to the coffee shop in the Akumal lobby for an early morning stroll on most days without any issues. One of the biggest advantages of staying at Sian Ka’an is having access to the facilities, bars and restaurants at the other resorts: Akumal, Tequila, Coba and Tulum. Shuttle buses are available to take you between them, making it easy to explore and enjoy everything the wider resort has to offer. Food, Allergies and Dietary Requirements Before arriving, TUI had informed Sian Ka’an that I am both coeliac and vegetarian. I was pleased to receive an email from the hotel acknowledging my dietary requirements, as catering for both can sometimes be a challenge. On arrival, check-in was smooth and the reception team explained how to use the hotel app and access the complimentary Wi-Fi, which is available throughout the resorts. I was also given an allergen card, and a note was added to my room details to ensure the à la carte restaurants were aware of my requirements. The buffet restaurant has a separate gluten-free section, and dishes display allergy symbols. Guest services also explained that the chefs would prepare whatever I wanted, provided I let them know the day before. The à la carte restaurants were unlimited, and my favourites included Alux, Mako, Smoked and Tequila. If you have allergies, please don’t be put off booking a restaurant simply because the menu doesn’t appear to cater for you. Speak to guest services and your waiter, as the staff were incredibly accommodating. I even enjoyed a lovely meal at a restaurant specialising in meat despite being vegetarian! As someone who needs to be particularly careful about food, I really appreciated the effort made to accommodate my dietary needs. As always, if you have coeliac disease, make sure to discuss cross-contamination precautions directly with the chefs and restaurant staff. The Staff – Simply Incredible! The service throughout the resort was impeccable. The staff work incredibly hard and genuinely go above and beyond to make your holiday special. A special mention must go to Edgar in the Sian Ka’an à la carte restaurants, who was absolutely amazing! It’s staff members like Edgar who really make a difference and leave you wanting to return. Pools and Drinks There are four pools at Sian Ka’an: two quieter pools and two activity pools. I spent most of my time at the main quiet pool opposite Alux, as I love a peaceful atmosphere. It was also conveniently located directly opposite my room. Pool towels were available from 9 am, and as an early riser, I simply changed mine each evening. Waiter service around the pool was frequent, and the drinks were fantastic. The mango margaritas were a particular favourite! I also visited the infinity pool at Akumal one day. This adults-only pool is right on the beach, making it a beautiful spot to enjoy the views and the seaside setting. I didn’t try the pools at the other resorts, mainly because I loved the tranquil atmosphere at Sian Ka’an so much. The Room The room was very spacious, with plenty of storage. The minibar was replenished daily with soft drinks, water, beer and crisps. Toiletries included shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body moisturiser, and all the usual amenities were provided, including a hairdryer, iron, safe and umbrella. The umbrella certainly came in handy during the storms! The room was comfortable, well equipped and had everything I needed for a relaxing stay. My Overall Verdict I wanted to share my honest opinion as a first-time guest at Sian Ka’an, and I genuinely cannot fault my experience. I previously stayed at Coba, but the setting, wonderful staff and adults-only atmosphere at Sian Ka’an took the experience to another level for me. The resort was clean, the food and drinks were fantastic, and the staff were simply incredible. Is this a five-star hotel? In my opinion, absolutely! I understand that changes may be concerning for returning guests, particularly with the transition to Hyatt, and I can only comment on my own experience during my stay. However, I had a fantastic holiday and would happily recommend Sian Ka’an to anyone looking for a relaxing, adults-only escape with excellent service, great food and beautiful surroundings. I absolutely loved it and can’t wait to come back!

This was my 7th visit to the Sian Ka’an from Saturday the 26 of September 2026 till the one of 3 of October 2026 and I think it will be my last time : The worst experience ever !!!! Is it because it’s owned by Hyatt ? May be 🤷🏻 who knows ? I wasn’t lucky neither because this time, Aurora the head manager ,was on vacation : if she was there things would happen differently ! She is really exceptional ! First I was there for a kind of honeymoon and also with friends that I invited by telling them what a beautiful previous experience I had in this resort ! I didn’t know that we will be all deceived this time ! When asked on the application of the Sian Ka’an before I got there about what kind of room we want, I answered : quiet one on 2nd floor and all I had was a very basic one on ground level directly in front of a very crowdy path and beside the crowdiest pool of all : activity pool ! You can’t have a nap during the day even with earplugs on !!! It was so loud ! And the resort is small so it’s louder … I chose the Sian Ka’an because it’s for adults and normally very calm and didn’t know that adults on alcohol can be worst by far from kids !!!! And when I went to the lobby to explain the problem they didn’t and couldn’t do much because they told me there were no other rooms (even if the resort was full at only 54% of its capacity) ! The worst was the very cold reaction of the manager Isaac who was there … bloody cold ! All he could offer me close was a room in 4 days from then ! Not to mention that the curtains in that room didn’t close completely and properly so we couldn’t have any intimacy since we were located straight beside the crowded path ! The water pressure and temperature in our shower was very various ! The other problem was the food : the Sian Ka’an was always known for his quality of food but this time …. What a deception : first the buffet was cut and they replace a whole section by decoration instead ! At breakfast the coffee tasted water mostly of the time unless you ask for Americano or Cappuccino and that takes a hell of time ! The hell of the same time the server took to remove the dirty plates from your table when you finished your first service ! Sometimes… and I’m saying sometimes to be fair the fruits were saggy and far from fresh and there was not even yogourt on the buffet ! The other problem : Good luck to book your restaurants …. So hard … Can you imagine that we had to have the help of Laura (customer service) all the way from Akumal resort who was exceptional and found us room at Katok restaurant our favourite and we gladly enjoyed after all ! By the way the last 3 days we were squatting at Akumal resort for breakfast and dinner because the food there was great and much better ! But this swapping will end in November first 2026 : new of the bad rules of Hyatt team thing ! And you will be allowed to only 3 restaurants à la carte instead of illimited ! Alux restaurant was in my top 2 favourite but not this time : the quality of food is really deteriorated specially one night that we couldn’t book a restaurant : the food was nasty … really ! One thing I have to mention : the mosquitos problem that I have never ever experienced at this resort ! This time it was a hell of a problem : little black mosquitos that will eat you raw !!! The reason : no clue !!! Did they cut in anti-mosquitos spraying ?!?! From the 7 times I visited this resort this was the only time I had this problem and a serious one because it really hurts and leave a mark for days !!! I wanted to mention the exceptional and excellent work and service of Erandi from the front desk and restaurant booking who helped us a lot …. A lot… and Carmen : this girl is really exceptional : her service quality is flawless !!!! To end : the Sian Ka’an was what I always called HOME and what a deceiving experience I had with my love and friends ! Would I return back ? May be not … unless Aurora is there ! This resort need to be upgrade very badly !!!! And by the way when you have a resort without a beach … your resort must be flawless !

We had an amazing time at Sian Kaan for our honeymoon. First off, Liz was amazing! So friendly and attentive , answering any questions we had or dealing with any bookings- she truly made our week amazing. The chat line was also available anytime for questions or to call a cart for pickups (which were always very quick). Our room was very spacious and we loved the jacuzzi on the back porch! Not to mention so many pools to enjoy! The entire staff were so amazing and helpful throughout our stay and always made sure we were comfortable. The spa was so relaxing- we had a couples massage done and the massage therapists made the experience so calming. I can’t say enough about the staff here! Thanks for making our honeymoon so awesome!

The hotel was nice and l couldn’t fault the staff. But for me and my boyfriend we found the hotel just too big for us and going to the other 4 hotels that we could use just too much. You couldn’t just walk out and go anywhere, and you had to catch a sort of shuttle bus to go around the other hotels. It didn’t help that you could be waiting for up to 20 minutes. The restaurant Alux at the hotel was lovely and the food delicious. We booked a few trips which we enjoyed. I loved Mexico and would come back, but l will be going to a different location, but we always do this anyway.

Recently returned from an 11 night stay just with the missus at the Sian Ka'an, we got a great price and our overall experience was positive but with some caviats. Before travelling we had heard and seen in YouTube etc that it off season the hotel seem to cut back on food choice etc and we did find this was the case in our trip, while my wife found no real issue with this I must say I struggled with lunch and dinner in the home buffet not just with choice but the overall quality of the food which I found sun standard to our previous Mexico trips at other resorts, the a la carte meals I also found very hot and miss with a couple of excellent ones but mostly finding them a let down with the food no better quality than in the buffet restaurant, having said that breakfast was always lovely and the staff are amazing in every part of the hotel, the best we've ever experienced in our trips to Mexico, but the quality of food is important and this did let the holiday down for me,we actually found the buffet in Akamal fast better with the food much nicer and importantly much hotter and fresher. The rooms as its well known so need a refresh, it's definitely not a luxury resort but with some tlc it could be again, having said that tho the rooms look dated I found it's fantastic with tons of space, good WiFi fantastically clean which more than made up for the need of an upgrade, my wife however want a keen and thought it disappointing so make it that what you will. The vibe of the resort we loved, adults only and we met some fantastic people of our own age it was never crowded, we used the middle pool most days and the quiet pool once but felt we had to whisper there so just used that the once, we didn't use the loud pool but it was next to the middle one we used and it wasn't loud or annoying in any way. Pool staff amazing as all were, we did feel the pool needed some refurbishment, some tlc again and I have to say it it didn't feel spotlessly clean and we never saw pool cleaners during our stay but it was fine overall. It was fantastic having the use of the other resorts, shuttles were numerous if busy in the evening and it was a short ride to the sister resorts and also the beach, drivers were fantastic and very helpful. The Sian Ka'an is surrounded by jungle and I noticed I got bit quite a lot during our stay and I've never had that before so bear that in mind if this hotel is your choice..... It's just nature and I didn't plan for it so that ones on me, plenty of repellent etc it there I just didn't pre purchase a I've never been bit in the past. Overall we had a blast, the staff were the number one thing about the trip, followed by the Sian Ka'an quiet adults only vibe and the little downers were acceptable..... The lack of food choice and quality overall being the main gripe. We met many people who have come year after year and live it but all said they had noticed a drop off in quality and investment since Hyatt became involved and I believe more changes are afoot in the near future. Would we stay again, maybe but we thought Akumal seemed the nicest of the resorts and thats recently been refurbished but never say never.
