Bahia Principe Escape Tequila

location was good, about 1hr15minute drive from the airport on private transportation, huge property with well-kept grounds, plants and trees enough to make you feel like you're in the jungle at some locations and many areas to visit especially with 4 other resort areas tied into it. we stayed at tequila in building 3 on the top floor. the room was large and very well taken care of. it had a balcony that looked out to the jungle area and was very peaceful. the shower was huge and always clean and the bath toiletries were good. plenty of hot water as well. the room was cold and felt good after a day at the pools and in the sun. bed, sheets, pillows blankets all were good. there is a sofa in the room as well. we had some issues with getting water bottles for the room but after tipping never ran out. when we arrived, we found out that our buffet had been turned into an ala cart but only for breakfast and dinner due to being low season. lunch we had to take at any other hotels buffet or one of the other pool/food truck restaurants. there is no room service. i am an early riser and found out that they do not have coffee in the tequila lobby until 6:30am which meant a walk to coba where they leave a machine on for the evening guards. buffets were decent not great but enough to get by all had the same foods with minimal changes from day to day. Akumuls was the best by far. no AC in any of the buffets and because we had to go to other resorts there was always children of all ages and behaviors about. brazilian - was the best restaurant we had by far even for my wife who is not a big meat eater. there was no AC here either. smoked - this is not smoked meats they are grilled, it was okay but nothing spectacular. japanese - was good they had a huge variety italian - was our least favorite, my wifes carbona was pasty and the noodles barely al dente, my lasagne was salty with the tomato soup they served as a starter doubling as a sauce. booze was hit or miss, they constantly ran out of liquors. it seemed they rotated which bars had which liquor each day to spread it around. drinks were weak unless you asked for a double or drank it straight like i did what whiskey i could find. the bartenders do not know many drinks. pools everywhere of all shapes and sizes, some adults only if you are at the right hotel most are family however. all are big with enough room to not feel crowded. they seem to have set them up that one pool in each hotel area has a swim up and the others are for the kids. we did note that upon arrival on a Friday the pools had a hazy dingy water quality. some were better than others, tulum was probably the cleanest all week, coba's pool was decent but akumuls pool was very dingy and had a hazy discoloration until later in the week. we would not go back but think it could be a great resort for families with children etc. and yes they do have locals in but after all it's their country and if they pay why shouldn't they be allowed? our biggest problem was that we paid extra for all adults and then was forced to the family resorts. we had a huge issue with the amstar rep christian, he was trying to sell us on membership which we originally considered and agreed to meet with him the next morning for the tour etc. he then asked if there was an ala cart we wanted to go to but didn't get, we explained that we had picked our 3 for the week and wanted to keep them. he insisted that he could get us into the Brazilian with no problem so we agreed. upon meeting him the next morning he again asked if there was an ala cart we wanted and we once again explained that we had the others reserved already for our trip and that tonights was the smoked which we wanted. he then told us that we no longer had the smoked he took that one to get us the brazilian. this of course upset us and he started to explain that he could make the change if we wanted etc. at this point i walked away not knowing what we could or could not believe from him. later that morning there was a call to our room from the front desk telling us we had our reservations for the smoked but i explained that i didn't want any more confusion and since it was no longer on our reservation list on the app we would not be going. as we were about to leave the room we found a handwritten note slid under the door stating that we had reservations at smoked. we went to the front desk explained the entire thing to the person on duty and were assured that we could go. things worked out in the end but i really was not looking for the hassle while on vacation. beware of this guy he is a smooth talker making promises that can't be kept and changing your plans while telling you everything is ok.

Just got back yesterday from Bahia Principe escape tequila. Absolutely nothing but great things to say about this resort. Check in was quick and easy. Rooms were beautiful and spacious. With a modern feel. The Party pool was our go to everyday. Eric, who runs the entertainment at the pool was absolutely the highlight of all our weeks. Couldn't have asked for anyone better to bring everyone in the pool area together and make it a great time. From water polo, to volleyball, to even Jenga. He made everything so fun. There were also pool parties every other day that had great vibes! The food was amazing. Our a la cartes were at the mexican, Italian and Brazilian steakhouse. Every single one of them was fantastic. The buffet while not large in stature , had everything you could want and was very delicious. There were only two downfalls with this resort. One, the beach is Not very big. And quite rocky. The akumal beach seemed to be the best area to go. As it was free of seaweed. Secondly. None of the restaurants we went to, whether it be the a la cartes, or buffet. Had AC. And you would sweat profusely I've travelled to many all inclusives. This may be the first one, where I would say. I would absolutely be willing to come back to. Thanks again to Eric and the rest of the entertainment staff for making this such a fantastic week for the 10 of us that were on this trip!

After spending two weeks at Bahia Principe and trying restaurants across the resort, we can confidently say that Mashua Nikkei and Smoked, both at Bahia Principe Grand Tequila, were our absolute favourites of the entire holiday! At Mashua Nikkei, we had the tuna ceviche, classic ceviche, salmon and beef teriyaki. Every dish was beautifully presented, full of flavour and genuinely impressive. The attention to detail, quality of ingredients and combination of flavours made this a standout dining experience. But what made both restaurants even more special was our waiter, Juan Carlos. We were lucky enough to have Juan Carlos looking after us at Smoked as well as Mashua Nikkei, and he was without question the best waiter we encountered during our entire two-week stay. His professionalism, friendliness, attentiveness and genuine hospitality made both evenings memorable. He has that rare ability to make guests feel personally looked after without ever being intrusive. A real credit to the team and someone who clearly takes pride in what he does. Of all the dining experiences we had across Bahia Principe, Grand Tequila stood out for having the best restaurants, and Juan Carlos was undoubtedly the highlight of the service. A massive thank you to Juan Carlos and the kitchen teams at both Mashua Nikkei and Smoked. You made our holiday that little bit more special. Highly recommended. Both restaurants are an absolute must-visit

Love the Mashua restaurant. Food was great ans Alvaro was great, he went over and beyond to take care of our table and needs ❤️

Was able to accommodate vegans and the dishes were very good! Didn’t feel like an after thought!
