I recently visited this Secrets location in Akumal and was truly surprised at how well it met or exceeded all my expectations. My wife and I stayed for 10 days, celebrating both her birthday and our anniversary. From the moment we arrived, we were treated with respect and courtesy. Every employee was extremely friendly and helpful. The location is large and takes a couple of days to learn your way around, but whenever we asked for directions, employees would stop what they were doing and personally escort us to our destination. The rooms were clean and well appointed with plenty of charging outlets. Ours was the preferred room with a king bed, an indoor jacuzzi, and a large soaking tub on the balcony. We had an ocean view, though I would call it partial ocean. The highlights were many, starting with the beach. It was well maintained and the water was calm. One warning: on the preferred side where the beds are, there are quite a few rocks and corals, so water shoes are needed. At the beach, several butlers and attendants did a great job bringing us drinks and keeping us comfortable. Three stood out: Ruben and Alejandro kept our area clean and adjusted the towels whenever we walked away, and Jesus, our beach butler for most of our stay, was extremely diligent in keeping us hydrated with an endless supply of tropical drinks from Mango Joes to Mango Tangos to Palomas to Piña Coladas. Before heading to the pools, we went to the gym every morning. Unlike most resorts, this one actually had a great gym next to the spa. The daily attendant, Esteban, was amazing. He greeted us with a towel every morning. One day I forgot my phone in the gym bathroom and realized much later, figuring it was gone. But when I returned, Esteban was waiting with my phone in hand. I am so grateful to him. He also helped my wife and me train, even sharing his Peloton membership with us, and provided guidance and information, including the name of the company that supplies the essential oils used in the gym. They also give you a cool towel with essential oils at the end, which is amazing. Next door to the gym is a spa with a great hydrotherapy circuit. I had a massage and my wife had a facial. Our attendants, Axel and Edson, welcomed us and guided us through the hydrotherapy, and Vianney and Patricia did amazing jobs with the facial and massage. I literally fell asleep during my massage. The spa gets two thumbs up, just like the gym. Each building has a concierge. Ours was a young woman named Mets, who was extraordinary at keeping us informed about daily activities and giving us recommendations. Now the pools: there were three main pools. The infinity pool with a pool bar and many activities was always fun and attracted younger guests, but it was hard to find a seat. The vibe was playful and fun. Next to it is a more relaxed pool, great for sunbathing and reading. Finally, there is a quiet pool with warmer water, more private and surrounded by lush greenery—very romantic. At the two main pools, Anthony, a young Cuban man who directed activities, made our stay very fun. He led daily activities from pool volleyball to football darts to Latin dance classes. Anthony was very joyful and fun to be around. In the evenings, we went to a different restaurant every night. We went to the Italian restaurant twice, the seafood restaurant twice, and the Mexican restaurant three times. All were excellent, but Portofino and El Patio went above and beyond. Not just the food but the service was truly memorable. Manuel, the chef at the Italian restaurant, was awesome, and we celebrated my wife's birthday at Portofino. His staff, including Aguayo, Jazmine, and Amairany, were very attentive, and the food was comparable to or better than most Italian food I've had in Italy—superior to a Michelin-starred Italian restaurant in New York City's Little Italy (Bronx), close to where I live. At the Mexican restaurant, El Patio, Chef Omar provided by far the most attentive and best dining experience of our lives. Every meal was great, but for our anniversary, Omar went above and beyond. He prepared an amazing off-menu meal that included two giant lobster tails and a giant Tomahawk steak, grilled tableside to perfection. His staff, including Isabella, Marisol, Luis, Oswaldo, and Michelle, were all super. Beyond the culinary experiences, there were nightly shows with everything from acrobats to fire shows to rock and roll musicians. The only negative during our entire stay was on the last day. They were supposed to collect our luggage and bring it to the main lobby for departure but failed to do so. When our transportation arrived, our bags were still in the room, and it took about thirty minutes to get them despite my reminding the front desk that my luggage had not arrived and my transportation was arriving soon. Luckily we had private transportation and our driver was willing to wait. In conclusion, this is the best time we have ever had at an all-inclusive resort. I would highly recommend this property and this staff.
The water aerobics with Ari were fun and actually a good workout! Highly recommend!
Our recent visit to Secrets Akumal was really wonderful. It's not a perfect resort, but we have found that this resort matches closely to our needs and likes. The was our 4th visit to S.A, in as many years and we loved staying in a preferred swim-up room. We are not big drinkers, so the Preferred Club does not really provide a huge incentive for us. But we love having a swim-up room a little closer to the ocean. The main reasons we return to Secrets Akumal are for the natural beauty of the courtyard jungle, the iguanas, raccoons, agoutis, and the green sea turtles in the bay. We especially loved seeing Mgr. Jaime at the Seaside Grill, and Mgr. Eliazar at the Market Cafe again. Surprisingly, they both remembered us from previous years which was very warming to our hearts. At the Manatees Bar, we really enjoyed Eduardo who took good care of us every day. If you are a nature and animal lover like us, this resort is for you. If you are not a nature and animal lover, then you probably should look elsewhere. I really loved the haircare products, room attention, service, and the wonderful mattress in our room as well. This is a very special place, and we trust you will feel the same.
Overall Amazing! The Staff, service, grounds, accommodations and food were all exceptional. A beautiful and swimmable beach and a great resort layout with a lot of though and consideration put into the guest experience. Would recommend for a relaxing and fun vacation that is not too overstimulating with too much going on, but enough to keep everyone entertained and wanting to stay longer than they planned.
The resort was beautiful and very accommodating. The beach was very clean! Alan and Donna made every activity we participated in super fun and engaging!
