FORMAL COMPLAINT - VERY SUBPAR AND SERIOUSLY CONCERNING EXPERIENCE AT THE BAHIA EXPLOR RAMESH SAHASRANAMAM SEP 6 TO SEP 13 I had a very, very terrible and subpar experience at your resort, and based on what occurred during my stay, I will probably never stay at a Bahia Principe property again. Let me start with the positives. The nature, layout, and overall beauty of the resort are terrific. The beach is gorgeous, the pools are nice, and the lobby is impressive. Unfortunately, these positives were completely negated by the numerous problems we experienced during our stay. I will also be sharing this experience with Expedia, as I believe these issues warrant serious attention. 1. Room Layout and Condition – Room 1814 The layout of the room was extremely inconvenient and, frankly, poorly designed. The bed was positioned in a way that made it very difficult to properly open the cupboard. The safe was also extremely inconvenient to access. The shower was lukewarm at best, and the shower stall itself appeared to have been designed with very little consideration for functionality or safety. It had a half-door, the soap dispensers interfered with movement, and the safety handle was positioned far too low. 2. Unreliable Safe The room safe worked intermittently and was completely unreliable. It would only work if you jiggled it in a very specific way—and even then, it did not consistently work. A hotel room safe should be something guests can rely on without having to fight with it every time they use it. 3. Room Keys – An Absurd Number of Failures The issue with the room keys was particularly ridiculous. Please look at your records and you will see how many keys you had to issue us during our stay because they simply stopped working after one use. And yes, we did not keep them near our phones. I must have gone to the front desk approximately 15 times for replacement keys. Every single key we were issued malfunctioned. Does that make any sense to you? This was an extraordinary inconvenience and completely unacceptable for a resort of this standard. 4. Room Not Serviced On two separate days, our room was not serviced at all. Again, this is not what a guest should reasonably expect from a resort of this calibre. 5. Inappropriate Behaviour by a Pool Attendant There is one matter that I consider particularly concerning. One of the younger male pool attendants—who worked around the pool bar—hugged my daughter and kissed her on the forehead. I did not personally witness this incident, but my son did. I do not recall the employee's name, but I believe your management team should be able to identify him based on the description and the area in which he worked. We chose not to make an issue of it at the time because we were in another country and did not want to become involved in a potentially messy situation while on vacation. However, that does not make the behaviour appropriate. Guests—particularly young women travelling from other countries—should feel completely safe and respected at a resort. Employees are there to provide hospitality and should understand and respect appropriate personal boundaries. I find this behaviour completely unacceptable. Final Comments The resort itself has tremendous potential. The setting, beach, pools, landscaping, and overall physical beauty are excellent. Unfortunately, the quality of the experience was undermined by too many basic failures: a poorly designed room, an unreliable safe, repeatedly malfunctioning room keys, rooms not being serviced, inadequate shower facilities, and, most seriously, inappropriate conduct by a member of your staff. For these reasons, I will not be returning to your resort. In fact, based on this experience, I will not be booking another Bahia Principe property. I hope you take these concerns seriously and investigate them appropriately. Regards, Ramesh
A big bahia fan and this place was perfect for us to relax which we did. It wasn't busy due to the time of the year but that suited us. It's not a typical bahia resort as it quite small ish as no buggies needed to get around. The pool is great and the beach is lovely but not fantastic water, you cant see through it.Had to watch out for jelly fish and one day we could hardly get in due to mass seaweed but just the one day. The room was great and well looked after and clean, perfect.Food wise the separate upgrade restaurants were actually really good. The buffets as expected were decent but not always the best quality produce but a great variety and real care and attention was noticed,it did us well.Special mention in the restaurants was a guy called Francisco, very bubbly and sunny. I left my expensive sunglasses in a restaurant and went back and they had gone.contacted the reception and somehow they tracked them down 2 days later(I'm not asking how) The LOVELY Diana especially was a great help on getting them back for me as well as wilmer All in all would we go back ,at the right price ? Yes we would :)
We came here as a family of 3 (son 19). We stayed in the family side of the hotel but could also access the Bougainville adults only hotel as well the A la Carte restaurants there. Everyone at the hotel is extremely welcoming. The A la Carte restaurants on the family side are good but the ones on the Bougainville side are excellent. The Churrasco and Gourmet in particular are fantastic. The pools are lovely and again we did prefer the adult side for both beach and pools. This was just our preference as there was waiter/waitress service on the beach. Both buffet restaurants serve pretty much the same food but Bougainville did tend to have crab and better seafood. Our room was good and kept exceptionally clean - no complaints whatsoever. The beach itself is beautiful but sadly the sea is not the greatest for swimming and my son did get stung. However, the pools make up for this. We had one organised trip to Catalina island which was lovely but for other trips to San Pedro and Santo Domingo we got an uber as we prefer to do our own thing. I highly recommend this hotel for friendliness, cleanliness and food but if you like a holiday full of watersports this isn't the resort for you.
Lovely hotel for the price BUT beware the weekends! Locals must get some sort of deal because they swarm the place. Families with several kids turn up and take over everything. I am all for mixing with local people but these seem to go mad. Parents leave kids to get up to whatever they want and parents themselves seem to want to facetime anybody and everybody as loudly as they possibly can. If you can afford the extra to go to the adults only part, the do it, its worth the extra at weekends.
I stayed at this beautiful hotel for 1 week early September. Pros - Rooms are really big i stayed in block 20, wasnt much of a view but quiet! Air-conditioning was lovely after a hot day outside. Hairdryer, coffee machine, fridge stocked when needed. All great 👍 Staff worked very hard and were all very friendly! I booked a trip through amstar (next to dining room!) Was a brilliant trip out to Saona Island i highly recommend! Beach was absolutely stunning, yes the sea is cloudy but you could take a dip..just be careful of jellyfish! Cons- If you do enjoy travelling out and about this isnt the hotel for you as surrounding is golfing, a nail salon and a small shop. To be out and about you would have to either go on an excursion or take a taxi. The hotel bar does close around 11pm, there is a nightclub however in the square 😃 Floor around the pool can be alittle slippy when wet so just take care around there. All in all beautiful stay and met some truly great people! 💜
