I went to Punta Cana for the very first time and was lucky enough to stay at the Royalton Bavaro there. The place is nice and clean, but what takes the first place is the people working there; all very nice, amicable, and ready to help. I want to particularly mention Javier (Rosario), our butler, who was constantly checking on us to make sure we had what we needed and scheduled our dinners every day. Javier even got me a bag of rice to dry my wet cellphone from me forgetting about it in my pocket while getting in the swimming pool! Thanks Javier, and thanks beautiful at Royalton for making his vacation unforgettable!

The staff were all amazing from the waiting staff, the restaurant staff, bar staff. The food & entertainment was great & as we were with the Diamond club Edwin was allocated as our butler who was exceptional & pulled out all the stops to get a great experience from booking all different restaurants all through the week. He worked tirelessly to make our holiday amazing & get a great experience - he couldn’t do enough. We was whisked away in a golf buggy to our check- in for the Diamond club where we were treated like VIPs with no queues and no waiting. Check out was just as simple, Edwin came to the room to collect our luggage & to ensure we were taken to the reception area to await for our coach to take us to the airport. We did really enjoy this hotel although there was building works which we wasn’t made aware of before we went where there was noise and disturbance and also we had a water issue which we had no facilities & water for over 12 hours. The staff did their best to deal with this. We just got on with our holiday and although these events happened we made the most of it. We had a lovely time, all the resort staff were very friendly & fun with plenty to do or if you wanted to relax & take it all in. The hotel was really lovely- although it was just a shame about building works and the water disruption but I am sure when the works are completed it will be great. I would say the upgrade to the Diamond club was worth the extra money & to have such an outstanding butler to help with the booking & to ensure our holiday went smooth & relaxed we definitely would recommend Edwin The hotel was always clean and spotless. We had lots of perks, either a beautiful jacuzzi & plenty of snacks restocked & champagne a plenty!! Edwin thank you - you made our holiday experience- a fantastic one! Hope that the next lucky holiday makers land with this.

3 STAR — NOT A LUXURY RESORT. DIAMOND CLUB IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY. Our 7-day stay at Royalton Bávaro Luxury Resort in Punta Cana was one of the most disappointing resort experiences we have ever had. This property is marketed as a luxury resort, but based on our experience, it is nowhere close to a luxury standard. We booked a Diamond Club Family Suite, expecting better accommodations, service and attention to detail. Instead, we experienced serious maintenance, cleanliness and safety issues throughout our stay. CHECK-IN — UNFRIENDLY AND UNHELPFUL At check-in, we were not given any welcome or information package. When I requested a room with two beds, the representative told me that I would need to upgrade and pay extra. This was especially frustrating because we had already booked a Family Suite, which is a more expensive category than a standard room with two beds. The attitude was unfriendly and there was very little effort to help. ROOM #1 — MOLD AND A/C PROBLEMS Our first room had a strong smell of mold, a dirty shower and an A/C thermostat that was not functioning properly. During the night, the A/C continued running and the room became extremely cold — approximately 15°C — until I finally had to turn it off. We were moved to another room, hoping things would improve. They didn't. ROOM #2 — MOLD AND A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY INCIDENT The second room had the same strong mold smell. Then, at approximately 6:00 a.m., while we were still sleeping, a large metal piece of artwork approximately 5 x 3 feet fell behind my 9-year-old granddaughter's bed. Thankfully, it did not hit her. We were extremely lucky. But the sound and realization of what had just happened was terrifying. The piece of artwork now has a large dent on one of its corners, showing the force with which it fell. Even more disturbing, the artwork had apparently been hiding a large patch of black mold on the wall. Once the artwork fell, the mold was exposed. A large piece of heavy metal artwork falling beside a child's bed is not a minor inconvenience. It is a serious safety issue. Discovering a large area of hidden mold behind it made the situation even more concerning. CLEANLINESS AND MAINTENANCE — FAR BELOW LUXURY STANDARD Throughout the resort, we encountered conditions that I would not expect from a property charging luxury-resort prices: Cockroaches in restaurants, hallways and rooms. Very old, rough and discolored towels in the rooms. Beach towels that were heavily bleached and covered with white spots. Rust around the shower drain. Cracked, dated and mold-stained shower tiles. Missing grout in the shower. Loose bathroom faucets and towel bars that moved freely. No toilet brush in the bathroom. A large piece of granite missing from the Diamond Club swim-up bar counter. These are not luxury-level details. They are basic maintenance and cleanliness issues. THE ENTIRE RESORT LOST WATER One Saturday, the resort's main water line broke and the entire resort was without water. We went to use the bathroom in the morning and couldn't even flush the toilet. Public bathrooms throughout the resort were closed from approximately 7:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Things happen, and I understand that unexpected maintenance problems can occur. What was extremely disappointing was the lack of communication, apology or acknowledgment from management regarding the inconvenience caused to guests. For a resort presenting itself as luxury, I expected much better communication and guest care. FOOD — MEDIOCRE AT BEST The food at the restaurants was mediocre at best. Nothing about the dining experience stood out as luxury or exceptional. And if you're paying for Diamond Club expecting special benefits, don't assume that means free lobster. DIAMOND CLUB — NOT WORTH THE EXTRA MONEY The entire reason to pay extra for Diamond Club is to receive a noticeably better experience. We didn't. Our butler provided no exceptional service that would justify the additional cost. We also had to specifically ask for basic Diamond Club amenities such as the beach bag and slippers, rather than having them provided as part of the advertised experience. The resort also advertises a selection of fine liquors, but there was no in-room selection of fine liquors as advertisedduring our stay. These may seem like small details individually, but when you're paying a significant premium for Diamond Club and the resort advertises specific amenities and services, you should not have to chase staff for them — or discover that advertised amenities aren't actually available. Overall, the Diamond Club experience did not feel meaningfully different from what I would expect from a standard resort stay. In my opinion, Diamond Club was a waste of money. DIAMOND CLUB BEACH — SARGASSUM AND POOR ACCESS TO THE OCEAN The Diamond Club beach area was a very narrow strip of sand with significant amounts of sargassum. During our 7-day stay, the sargassum continued piling up and reached more than 3 feet high in places. There appeared to be little meaningful effort to remove it during our stay. In addition, there were large tire tracks running across the beach, creating a deep and uneven area that made access to the ocean difficult and, in some places, practically inaccessible. This was particularly disappointing in a resort that markets itself as a luxury property and charges a premium for Diamond Club. I understand that sargassum is a natural problem in Punta Cana and that a resort cannot control the ocean. However, guests paying luxury prices should reasonably expect the beach area to be maintained and made as accessible and enjoyable as possible. FINAL VERDICT There were simply too many problems to call this a luxury resort: Mold in multiple rooms Large hidden patch of black mold Heavy metal artwork falling beside a child's bed Cockroaches Poor room maintenance Old and damaged towels Rust and mold in the bathroom Loose bathroom fixtures Major water outage affecting the entire resort Public bathrooms closed for hours Little communication or acknowledgment from management Mediocre food Disappointing Diamond Club service Had to ask for advertised Diamond Club amenities No advertised in-room selection of fine liquors Poorly maintained Diamond Club beach Large tire tracks making ocean access difficult Diamond Club did not justify the additional cost I would rate this resort 3.5 stars based on our actual experience. It may have beautiful photos and the word “Luxury” in its name, but the reality we experienced was very different. This is NOT a luxury resort. If you're considering paying extra for Diamond Club, I strongly recommend thinking twice. For us, it was absolutely not worth the additional money. We came to Royalton Bávaro expecting a relaxing luxury vacation. Instead, we dealt with mold, cockroaches, maintenance problems, a frightening safety incident involving our granddaughter, a full-resort water outage, disappointing service and mediocre food. We would not return, and based on our experience, we cannot recommend this resort.
