Sunscape Dominicus La Romana

Nice beach, nice entertainment, not-so-good rooms. Sun Club is worth it for the pool bar (nice drinks) and the exclusive beach area, but not so much for the room. The pool conditions were disappointing. Lack of maintenance.

We stayed at Sunscape Dominicus La Romana for one week as a couple and, overall, there is a lot to praise about this resort. The food was probably the biggest positive surprise. Both the buffets and the themed restaurants were excellent and genuinely exceeded our expectations. The resort itself is beautiful and we also had very positive experiences with the staff throughout our stay. Unfortunately, our room experience was considerably below the same standard. We were given two separate beds despite travelling as a couple, the shampoo dispensers were empty, towels were not replaced on several days, the sink siphon was broken from our first day, and we had to call maintenance three times because of problems with the toilet. Most disappointing of all, the bed linen had a very noticeable smell of dampness, which eventually made us change beds. Our main disappointment, however, was the Sun Club upgrade we purchased at check-in. It was presented to us as an upgrade that, in addition to the Sun Club benefits, would improve our room amenities and give us a better location closer to the beach. The staff member even showed us the resort map and specifically indicated the area where we understood we would be accommodated. This was the main reason we decided to pay the additional amount. Later during our stay, after raising the room situation, we were informed that what we had actually purchased was the Sun Club services and benefits only, and not the room/location upgrade as it had been explained to us at check-in. Had this been clear from the beginning, we simply would not have purchased the supplement. We raised the matter with the hotel during our stay and were told that it would remain under review. We followed up before leaving and again afterwards, but unfortunately we never received a final response or resolution. This was particularly disappointing because it was really the only major issue affecting what otherwise could have been an excellent experience. Overall, we enjoyed the resort and would particularly recommend it for the food and facilities. However, our advice to future guests considering Sun Club is to ask for written confirmation at check-in of exactly what the additional payment includes, particularly regarding the room category and location, before purchasing the upgrade.

Very good Location and the Beach its very good the employers are very attentive and careful . The rooms are small out clean

Myself and my partner stayed here between aug/sept 26 for 14 days and upon arrival were immediately sold the premium package at a “small” extra cost of $1300. This then dropped to $600 which we also declined as we had just paid a significant amount to come here. The food here has caused both of us to be repeatedly unwell for our whole stay and has been nothing but chaos since we arrived, I have allergies (coeliac) and advised the hotel of this, the staff were nothing but unhelpful with this and 1 chef “didn’t have time” to go through my options at dinner service and the waitress was not interested either leaving me in an extremely vulnerable place as their food cards don’t have allergy symbols either!! I was advised at reception I would have to contact them in advance if I wanted anything to suit my allergies for certain restaurants but when asking for a arranged GF lunch box for a tour they were again not interested and I ended up eating on the tour and becoming seriously unwell from food poisoning. The AC in our room had broken and our room temp remained at 28° regardless which was extremely uncomfortable as the days were already hot but nighttime was even hotter and when asking reception for extra water they seemed so uninterested and it was never delivered (you can’t drink out of the taps for context) our room was FULL of mosquitoes as well from the doors being left wide open whilst cleaning occurred! Which you can imagine the horror when your room is also 28° and you can’t sleep under covers! Without attaching any images as they are graphic we were both so badly bitten on the ankles/feet and legs that shoes were no longer an option as they became so swollen from the bites! And we did use insect repellent. Our bedsheets had not been changed our ENTIRE stay which is beyond disgusting even tho the cleaners had been in daily. Personally we will Not be returning to this hotel and it needs to be brought up to basic standards for a variety of things but specifically managing allergies and staff attitudes! Another note to anyone coming here is the gift shop is extortionate. A box of tablets for food poisoning is $25! And we found a lot of items weren’t price marked and when rung up came to crazy prices. A single Gatorade and a packet of chips came to $20… As two English speakers we tried to speak Spanish to staff to our best ability but the language barrier is also a big issue. So if you aren’t fluent in Spanish I would suggest brushing up! We found staff would start a conversation in English and then immediately switch up to Spanish and remain in Spanish even though we continued to speak in English which made Interactions even harder. Such a shame as we loved every other minute on the island outwith the hotel.

AVOID AT ALL COST! We’ve booked 7 nights in this Resort, Its super sad we’ll have to stay for another 5 nights.. We arrived 10pm and were placed in a incorrect location - found out next day after raising the issue. No water on the taps for hours, no drinking water bottles available in the bar (violation of basic human necessity) Good luck trying to do any leisure activities - all fully booked. Good luck flushing your toilet - no water! Buffet and restaurant (also always fully booked - only managed to get a table after the manager was called.) Raw food served. Broken plates to eat. Good luck trying to get a drink at the bar - they ran out of beer at 5:00pm on the first day. Also, beach bar shuts at 6pm. Multiple documented complaints raised at receptions as we book and paid additional. Good luck trying to get their attention, they show a very visible “I don’t care” emotion. But hey, the beach is amazing! (I wonder how long until they mess that up too) Luckily we are 6 adults, I can’t even imagine being stranded in this place without water and having children or an elderly relative. I’m keeping this short not to extend it here. I will raise international awareness on this place, its simple not human. I can’t allow others to be treated like you’re an animal.
