An Exceptional Boutique Hotel – A Little Piece of Paradise in Zanzibar We recently spent five nights at Tulia Zanzibar, and it is a truly special little hotel that deserves to be discovered. With just 16 rooms and a maximum of around 40 guests, Tulia offers an intimate, peaceful and personal experience that is quite different from a larger resort. If you are looking for somewhere that combines excellent service, fabulous food and a beautiful setting, this hotel is definitely worth considering. The setting The gardens are absolutely beautiful, creating a wonderful tropical atmosphere and a sense of peace and privacy. One of the highlights was dining under the stars, surrounded by the gardens, with the hotel creating a lovely atmosphere for the evening. The barbecue was another memorable experience. The food and drinks The quality of the food and drinks was excellent, with plenty to enjoy throughout our stay. What really impressed me was the effort made to keep the dining experience interesting and varied, rather than allowing each day and evening to feel the same. The special Le Petit Chef experience, available on selected evenings at an additional supplement, is another lovely touch for those looking for something different. The service For me, the service is one of Tulia’s greatest strengths. The waiters were exceptionally friendly, welcoming and attentive, making us feel genuinely looked after. In a hotel of this size, the personal touch makes such a difference, and the team clearly work hard to create a memorable experience for their guests. We also enjoyed the local musicians, which added an authentic touch and helped make the evenings feel special. The overall experience What makes Tulia stand out is its intimate atmosphere, beautiful surroundings and the care taken to ensure guests have a memorable stay. It feels relaxed, personal and thoughtfully run, with little touches that make the experience feel special without being over the top. Having recently visited Zanzibar and experienced different properties on the island, I would certainly put Tulia on the list for anyone looking for a more intimate, boutique-style luxury escape. It is particularly suited to couples and anyone who appreciates excellent hospitality, wonderful food and a peaceful tropical setting. Thank you to the team at Tulia Zanzibar for such a lovely stay. Our three nights at Tulia Unique Beach Resort were truly unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, what stood out most was how incredibly personal the experience felt. This is not a resort where you feel like just another room number. The staff genuinely takes the time to get to know their guests, learn their preferences, and make every interaction feel warm and sincere. Our room was absolutely gorgeous—beautifully designed, spacious, peaceful, and extremely comfortable. My only minor criticism was that it did not have much natural light, so it could feel a little dark during the day. On the positive side, it was fantastic for sleeping! One piece of advice I would give future guests is regarding the room categories. We paid extra for a partial sea view, but unfortunately we could not see the sea at all from our porch. If we stayed again, I would either splurge for a true sea-view room or simply choose a garden-view room and save the additional cost. Every room and villa we saw appeared beautiful, so I don’t think you can really go wrong. Unfortunately, our stay took an unexpected turn when my husband developed a serious leg injury. Because of this, we weren’t able to enjoy nearly as much of Tulia—or all of its amenities—as we had planned. The resort staff immediately stepped in and arranged for a doctor to come directly to the property to evaluate him. The doctor ultimately recommended that he be admitted to the hospital, where he ended up spending much of our stay. This could easily have overshadowed our entire experience, but instead it showed us just how special the people at Tulia truly are. While my husband was hospitalized, the staff took such wonderful care of me and continually checked on both of us. Their compassion went far beyond what we ever would have expected from a hotel. Then, on our final night, knowing that we had missed so much of the experience we had originally planned, the staff surprised us with the most beautiful private dinner for two in the garden underneath a gorgeous illuminated arch. After everything we had gone through, it was incredibly romantic, thoughtful, and emotional—and a memory we will never forget. And then there is the food. Quite honestly, this may have been one of the biggest highlights of Tulia. Every single meal was exceptional. The ingredients were incredibly fresh, the dishes were creative and beautifully prepared, and the quality was consistently outstanding. We did not have one disappointing meal during our entire stay. For a smaller, intimate resort to maintain that level of culinary excellence meal after meal is truly impressive, and Tulia should be extremely proud of what they are doing in their kitchen. What makes Tulia special isn’t simply that it is beautiful. There are many beautiful resorts in Zanzibar. It is the combination of the intimate atmosphere, gourmet food, impeccable service, attention to detail, and—most importantly—the genuine kindness of the people who work there. Our stay certainly wasn’t the vacation we originally imagined because of circumstances completely outside of the resort’s control. And yet, Tulia somehow managed to leave us with incredibly positive memories from what could have been a very difficult few days. We would highly, highly, highly recommend Tulia Unique Beach Resort to anyone looking for a quiet, intimate and romantic Zanzibar experience with outstanding food and truly personalized, top-notch service. Sometimes the best measure of a resort isn’t how they treat you when everything is going perfectly. It’s how they treat you when it isn’t. And Tulia was absolutely exceptional.

Wow - Tulia really offers a 5 star experience whilst still feeling relaxed. The Masai show after dinner was really powerful and the 5 course meal was delicious. The Spice Garden is incredible and worth visiting. We made the most of our short stay and loved the waterslides and kayaks. Wish we could have stayed longer. Asante sana.

The Tulia property itself is beautiful, and the hotel is kept in pristine condition. However, my husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon and were disappointed by how management handled an issue we experienced during one of the excursions offered through the hotel. The snorkeling excursion to Mnemba Island was highly recommended to us as an excellent experience. Unfortunately, we were immediately concerned by what we observed, particularly the treatment of the dolphins. Boats were chasing dolphins while people were simultaneously swimming in the water. The coral appeared largely dead, and there was very little marine wildlife. We were also not provided with life jackets. When we expressed our concerns to the Tulia guide, he laughed at us, which was particularly upsetting. We later learned from management that the guides used for excursions are actually third-party contractors who simply wear Tulia shirts and are not affiliated with the hotel. This was even more concerning, as the excursion had been recommended and arranged through Tulia. Despite our concerns, the hotel did not offer any refund or meaningful resolution for the experience. When we followed up several times throughout the week, management repeatedly deferred providing an answer. Unfortunately, this experience negatively impacted what was otherwise a beautiful honeymoon stay. We hope Tulia will reconsider how it vets and oversees the third-party operators it recommends to guests and take greater responsibility when those experiences fall short of the standards guests expect from the hotel.

My experience at Tulia 10/10 ❤️ It’s a beautiful hotel with such a lovely ambiance and very welcoming, friendly staff. The swimming pool is big and beautiful, and the whole place has such a relaxing atmosphere. One thing that really surprised me and I have never experienced in other hotels is that the drinks are free! 🥂🍹 You can enjoy as many drinks as you want without being charged extra which is such a great touch, especially for people who love to enjoy their drinks while on holiday. For those who enjoy shisha, they also have you covered 😍 I was especially impressed by the waiters and the housekeeping team. Everyone was so kind, helpful, and welcoming. The food was also really nice and enjoyable. Overall, I had such a wonderful experience at Tulia. Definitely a place I would recommend, and I would happily come back again! 10/10. ❤️✨
