Turaco Nungwi Resort, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel

Location was great, many restaurants around the hotel. The Atmosphere in the hotel was amazing. The room was okay, it was very damp. The Hotel overall was very clean, buffet was clean and rooms were cleaned every day! The service was amazing, very friendly stuff.

Was a great visit. The hotel was perfect, and very accommodating. Enjoyed the food choices, and presentation. The staff was very helpful, Mloja, Hativu and spa team, always a smile, and kind word.

Mloja greeted us and was very supportive. Also, so was Hativu and all the girls in the massage center. And also very supportive were the towel men and the bar servers. A special shout out to Kasiim as he removed sea urchants from my foot. The aerobics pool instructor was great too. Everyone in the restaurant was very attentive. The food was delicious. It was a clean hotel and I felt safe. There are alot of vendors out by the sea and the security team kept them from being overwhelming. Thank you too to the entire Nungwi Turaco team.

Spent 5 nights in a beautiful twin room on an all inclusive basis. The beds were large and comfy with mosquito nets all around. Nice balcony with views of the gardens, palms and frangipani trees. The gardens were really well kept with so many beautiful plants and flowers. The pool was a good size but a little on the chilly side but was nice and refreshing on hot days. When the sun was out the sea was an incredible turquoise colour but we did have a few days of cloud and one entire day of rain! There is very little to do when it rains - only the reception area, a pool table, the small gym and massage area. Everything else is outside including the bars. There always seemed to be quite a bit of seaweed that washed up on the beach which spoiled the effect of the white sand unfortunately, and the shallow waters were always churned up with sand so had zero visibility. It might have been clearer towards the edge of the reef but was quite far out and a lot of boats went up and down so we didn't feel safe enough to snorkel right out there. You do get accosted by men trying to sell items or trips if you walk on the beach, but they are generally friendly. We walked down to Kendwa at low tide which took 45mins, to see the beautiful wide sandy beach and all the water sports. We booked a half day trip through the hotel to Mnemba Island which was 7:45-1:45. Unfortunately the weather had been unsettled so the sea was very churned up and bad visibility and nothing to see there at all. But the sand bank was incredible - such amazing colours of blues and turquoise. We saw a few pods of dolphins but it was a bit of a chase with about 50 other boats so didn't feel very natural or kind on the dolphins and they swam away quickly rather than playing. We walked along the beach for 10-15 mins to the East and went to the Nungwi Mnarani Aquarium - little hard to find from the beach but a quick easy walk. $10pp and really enjoyed it - you get to get in the lagoon and hand feed the huge turtles. It was nice and quiet when we went and had a great guide who showed us from the small 'museum' as well. The buffet food was good but felt a bit monotonous after 5 days and the drinks on all inclusive were also a bit limited but perfectly fine. We had a lovely stay, loved our room, loved the gardens and looking out at the beautiful sea.

Turaco was a nice slow down in pace after staying at Stonetown. Staff were friendly and helpful.
