Pension Bergheil

I am writing this review to warn future guests. We live in Tallinn/Estonia, so we know what "cold weather" is. However, the conditions at Pension Berghail were unbearable. 1. HEATING FAILURE: The room was freezing. The radiators were not working. We had to sleep in double-layer ski thermal underwear and hats. When we complained, the owner (Mr. Englacher) insisted that "heaters turn off automatically at 24°C." This was a joke—the room was practically the same temperature as outside. 2. DISRESPECTFUL OWNER: Mr. Englacher’s English is very limited. When we tried to explain the situation using Google Translate (translating to German), he literally laughed at us. Whenever we asked for basic amenities or heat, his only answer was, "This is not a 5-star hotel." Being rude and leaving guests in the cold has nothing to do with stars; it is about basic human decency. 3. FACILITIES: Bed: I am 1.84m tall, and the bed was so short that my ankles were hanging off the edge. Breakfast: You are not allowed to drink coffee freely; there are strange restrictions. CONCLUSION: It is 2026, and this hotel still cannot provide basic heating or respect. We checked out on the morning of the 2nd day and moved to another hotel. Do not ruin your ski holiday here.

Lovely little place. Friendly, cosy, central. Can't fault it. The owner was so friendly , and brought me lots of coffee, even asked if my son wanted hot chocolate. Helpful and informative.

Stayed here as part of a Crystal package. Arrived quite late but received a lovely friendly welcome from Horst who is one of the nicest hosts we’ve stayed with in Austria (we’ve visited a lot). The pension is perfectly located - bus stops and ski hire 2/3 min walk, bars and restaurants 2-10 min walk but in a quiet location. We had a good sized room with a balcony. Hallway with wardrobes and a safe and off it a large bathroom and bedroom. The beds were comfy and the furniture seemed quite new. The bathroom needs updated as there was a shower over the bath but no screen or curtain. However it was all very clean and our bin was emptied every day. Breakfast was from 7-10am which we were pleased about as we like an early start on a ski hol. The breakfast room could get quite busy as it’s small and the pension seemed full but we only waited for a table on one occasion. Breakfast inc tea, coffee & herbal teas, cornflakes and muesli, yoghurt, fruit, Semmel rolls, toast, cheese, tomatoes, boiled eggs, jans, spreads etc. Horst worked very hard at breakfast making sure nothing ran out, fetching drinks, clearing tables etc. and always greeted us with a cheery good morning. Would definitely stay here again

We booked Pension Bergheil as part of a Crystal ski holiday. It was a lovely little pension, conveniently located for exploring Kaprun. The ski bus stop (bus 660 to Maiskogel, Zell am See and the Kitzteinhorn) were only a short walk (2-300m). The stop for the local town bus (also going to the Maiskogel and Kitzteinhorn) was just on the corner from the pension. Buses were frequent especially mornings and evenings. The pension was simple but provided all we needed for a bed and breakfast stay. Horst, the owner, was friendly and nothing was too much trouble. There was enough choice at breakfast (cereals, juices, rolls and bread, eggs, tea/coffee, jams, meats and cheeses). Horst would also cook eggs on request. The rooms were a little dated but were clean and cleaned daily. It was mostly quiet except for some noisy people in the outdoor pool in the hotel opposite (only one night). Kaprun was easy to traverse on foot and had a good selection of places to eat and drink. The pension also had a small ski and boot storage area and the boot racks were heated. All in all we would recommend Pension Bergheil as a place to stay and, should we return to Kaprun, would not hesitate to stay there again.

We booked through Crystal Ski for Christmas 2022: -Super welcoming owner -Cosy rooms with plenty of storage, great showers -Basic breakfast options but we expected this -Quiet at night, but only a short walk to all restaurants and bars -Good view of the glacier ski region from balcony -Boot & ski storage available, but we hired a locker by the Maiskogel gondala for the week - less than 10 min walk from Bergheil. You can either get the Maiskogel gondala and 3K connection to the glacier, or get a bus to Kitzsteinhorn then gondola up from there (less scenic but overall quicker!)
