Alua Helios Bay

We have just returned from a 10 night stay that has been a perfect family holiday. The hotel was clean, the room was cleaned daily, the pool side was hosed down every evening and swept every morning. The only down side was the pool water was so cold. The location was perfect directly on the beach and a short walk to the shops. If you want any excursions though you would be too far out The entertainment team were brilliant and made our kids holiday. Especially Sophia, Theo, Stan and Alex! There was always activities to be involved in. The restaurant was always busy, there wasnt enough staff working in there. The coffee machines were always broken or not topped up with coffee. The food was a good variety, just had to make sure the chicken was cooked properly. The bar staff were rude with lack of experience and not understanding English The reception staff were really helpful and go out of there way help

The pool bar staff were rude, couldnt understand some English and had lack of experience The reception staff were really helpful and went out there way to help. The food in the restaurant was a good variety, sometimes had to make sure the chicken was cooked properly. The coffee machines were always broken in the restaurant and wernt kept topped up with coffee beans. The location was perfect in Obzor, directly on the beach and a short walk to the shops. If you want any excursions the hotel is very far out.

First impressions were positive. On arrival, check-in was straightforward and, having booked a sea-view room, we were pleasantly surprised to be given a complimentary upgrade to a family room. The extra space and separate bedroom were a welcome bonus. Unfortunately, the room itself was in need of refurbishment. It looked very tired, and the standard of cleanliness wasn’t what I expected. There were crumbs on the floor beside the bed, suggesting it hadn’t been cleaned thoroughly before our arrival. The bathroom had a persistent faint smell of urine throughout our stay, and the shower tiles were cracked in places with black mould around the grout. The housekeeping also left a lot to be desired. Although the towels were changed and the beds were made each day, the bathroom didn’t appear to be properly cleaned for the entire week. The toilet seemed untouched, and the sink looked as though it had only received a very quick wipe at best. Unfortunately, the lack of cleanliness wasn’t limited to our room. Throughout the hotel, the general standard of housekeeping seemed poor. Corridors and communal areas often looked as though they needed more attention, and the overall impression was that cleanliness simply wasn’t being maintained to the standard you would expect from a Hyatt hotel. One thing I found particularly odd was that the lobby floors were regularly being mopped during breakfast service, which is the only route through to the restaurant. Whilst it’s good to see staff cleaning, it seemed like a strange time to do it with guests constantly walking through trying not to slip over. My children really enjoyed the kids’ pool, despite it being quite chilly, and had a fantastic time on the slides. We didn’t use the main pool, so I can’t comment on that. However, the usual sunbed issue was very noticeable. By 7:30am, when we went down for breakfast, most of the loungers around the main pool had already been reserved with towels. There was a little more availability around the children’s pool, but even there you really needed to be out before 9am to have much choice. The food was acceptable and about what you’d expect from a standard all-inclusive hotel. It was fairly repetitive, but there was always pizza, pasta and chips available, so the children were never short of something to eat. One word of caution: it’s worth checking the meat before eating it, as on a couple of occasions the chicken and pork appeared to be undercooked. The drinks were also inconsistent, with the same cocktail tasting noticeably different depending on which bar you ordered it from. I did find there to be quite a significant language barrier. While I appreciate we’re visiting another country and don’t expect everyone to speak fluent English, I had expected the staff at a hotel that caters heavily to British holidaymakers to have enough English to communicate basic issues. On one occasion I tried to report a broken glass to the bar staff, but they didn’t seem to understand what I was saying. We also experienced a more serious issue during our stay. While sitting on our balcony, one of the plastic chairs collapsed beneath my husband when he leaned forward. One of the legs snapped off completely as the plastic had become brittle, causing him to fall and injure his wrist. We reported the incident to reception, but they didn’t seem to understand the issue and just smiled at us. After contacting our Jet2 representative, the matter was handled much more appropriately. All four balcony chairs were replaced, and we received an apology in the form of a bottle of wine and a cheese board. While I appreciated the gesture, it did feel a little odd considering we were staying at an all-inclusive hotel. Overall, I wouldn’t return to either Obzor or this hotel. Obzor itself is pleasant enough, but it’s quite small and, for us, it’s somewhere we’ve now seen and don’t feel the need to revisit. I had expected considerably more from the hotel, particularly as it’s part of the Hyatt brand. I’ve stayed at other Hyatt hotels and have always found them to be of a very good standard, which made this experience all the more disappointing. I’m genuinely surprised Hyatt is willing to put its name to this property.

We got a nice spatious room with beautiful view over the sea. The food was tasty and there was variety of it during our whole stay. I don’t know why but the coffee in machines was always sweetened already and there was no option to choose a sugar free coffee. The staff is lovely and very helpful, we rented a car with them, all went smoothly and in a reasonable price. You can go out straight from the pool to the beach which is clean and nice, and it’s very convenient. It’s a pity the hotel doesn’t have its own au beds and umbrellas on the beach. I also must say I saw once a lifeguard by the pool who instead of watching the guests, was watching his phone… Although not everything was perfect, we are very happy with our stay!

Nice hotel, if a little tired. Food was great every day, puddings were excellent. Could probably do with more staff especially the restaurants where they were struggling to re lay the tables. A lovely holiday for pool and the local town. Not much beyond that as the distances to various sightseeing areas are long.
