INTRO: I hope this proves useful in choosing your next hotel in Protaras. This review is based on an 11 night stay in JULY 2026 and a 7 night stay in OCTOBER 2026 for a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids). OVERVIEW: The Vangelis hotel is a perfect setting for a great family holiday. The location is perfect for Protaras whereby the hotel is in the middle of the main Protaras Strip with plenty of bars, shops and restaurants within a stones throw away. The main beach (Vryssi Beach) is minutes away and Fig Tree Bay Beach around 15 minute walk - the beaches in Protaras give those in The Caribbean a run for there money. We stayed at The Vangelis twice this year - we have booked again for July 2027. This is testimony to the standard of this hotel and the price you pay. It is a wonderful hotel which is kept incredibly clean and the staff take good care of its guests from the housekeeping team, the bar staff, a welcoming reception team and the entertainment guys. All hotels have areas of improvement, and I will touch on these in the section headings below, but overall, this hotel offers everything a reasonable person would expect and beyond. Thank you to The Vangelis team for 2 wonderful holidays this year and we look forward to returning in July 2027 LOCATION: Located in the middle section of Protaras Strip with lots of amenities on the door step, but not effected to much by noise or disturbance from the nearby hustle and bustle. Protaras is a safe place to visit. Its flat walking with a one way traffic system along the strip with slow traffic. There are plenty of delicious restaurants to choose from, ranging from high end restaurants, local Cypriot/Greek choices to your traditional UK pub grub. There are plenty of shops to browse during the evening and many family friendly bars with free entertainment on offer. The beaches in Protaras are wonderful and are minutes away from The Vangelis. Regular buses are available right outside the hotel which take you to neighbouring resorts (Ayia Napa & Pernera) and beyond. The location of this hotel is second to none. FOOD/DRINK: The main restaurant at The Vangelis is welcoming and the staff are extremely attentive in finding you your preferred choice of seats (outside terrace or indoor seating). Breakfast is good with all selections of breakfast choices (hot food, cold meats, cereals, fruits, omelettes etc). Lunch time equally offers plenty of choice or you can choose the snack bar located behind the adults pool bar - if I am honest, the choice at the snack bar is limited and I have had better choices at other hotels - this is limited to chips, toasties and salad boxes, certainly an area I would like the hotel to improve, but, the kids loved a cheese and ham toastie and chips around the pool area - just some burgers, hotdogs or chicken wings would go down well. The evening meal offers a different theme each night and the food is of good quality, the choice for kids is limited if your kids are a little fussy, ours aren't but kids choices don't go beyond chicken nuggets, chips or pasta if they don't like sampling more adult flavourings. Our preference is to go out of an evening and enjoy the lovely restaurants on The Strip, not because the food is below standard at The Vangelis but because we like to be served at a table, the good value for money (all restaurants are really reasonably priced) and I don't like the canteen-esque feeling for an evening meal, breakfast and lunch is fine for me. The restaurant is well maintained, clean and spacious. However, the Ala Carte restaurant at The Vangelis (which you can attend once per week) is superb!!! Well worth the booking. The drinks at the bar (as part of the All Inclusive) are great. So much on offer with the beers, spirits and cocktails.....lots of weird and wonderful choices for the kids too - milkshakes, mocktails, ice creams etc. The bar staff are AMAZING, they are smiley, remember your drink choice and greet you everytime, they are also brilliant with the kids too. Drinks in glasses in the evening....always a staple in my view, quite rightly plastic though during the daytime and around the pool area. ROOMS: In July 2026, we stayed in BLOCK C, Room 3308 - pool & sea view. In October 2026, we stayed in BLOCK C, Room 3508 - poll & sea view Both rooms were spacious and clean. The bathroom was spacious with a walk in shower which was powerful without leaving a flood in the bathroom area. The beds were big and comfy with lots of storage for clothing. The TV offers a range of Channels for all nationalities (BBC 1, 2 - ITV 1, 2 with UK News Channels). Upon arrival, a lovely plate of fruit, a bottle of wine was provided and 2 large bottles of water which was replenished each day, including tea, coffee and milk throughout your stay. The housekeeping was spot on, the rooms were lovely and clean upon arriving back from the pool/beach each day without that dreaded early knock at the door in the morning....I believe the cleaner was invisible and it was probably done by AI as we were never disturbed to have our room cleaned. Towels changed each day and the bed was made as though none of us slept in it! POOL AREA: The main pool area is where we situated ourselves as the other pool area is for adults only, which looks very inviting if you are like myself and my wife use to be about 9 years ago! A nice quiet sanctuary away from splashing kids, and adults alike in the main pool. There are plenty of sunloungers around the pool area, however, depending where you choose will determine if you get a shaded area come the afternoon (sunbeds close to BLOCK D tend to be shaded come 2pm). Get a sunbed near to the pool bar area and you'll be fine to soak in the daytime hot sun all day long. July and October are considerably different in obtaining a sunbed. July is busier and the beds do go very early. The Lifeguards have an impossible task at trying to police those idiots who chuck a few towels on the beds and then bugger off for a few hours, to be fair to the Lifeguards, they do remove them. There is no reserving beds BEFORE 9am unless you stay on your beds. This can cause issues either with people reserving 3 or 4 beds with the early riser remaining there until the late risers join...the beds go quickly. I don't know the solution, but, the adult pool is rarely used, potential to open this pool up to all guests in peak season? Something for the hotel to solve, not me. But, the Lifeguards do an incredible job at keeping the pool area clean and tidy, and quickly attend to peoples cuts and grazes, or even more serious accidents with there first aid skills. The pool area is a nice setting, and most importantly its safe and clean. October was considerably different with no sunbed issues or problems getting your desired spot. ENTERTAINMENT: The daytime activity team are inclusive, welcoming and they aren't pushy at wanting you to participate, just a polite ask if you want to join in or not. I like that. They are friendly and always greet you with a "Good Morning". The daytime entertainment programme offerings is a little thin in my view, only offering 1 or 2 activities before lunch, the usual aqua aerobics around half 12 and 1 activity in the afternoon. There needs to be several more on offer throughout the day from 10am until 4pm...I know numbers of participants can always be an issue but I have had a better daytime activities package at other hotels. I'd like to see this improve for our visit next year, but, the team are lovely but certainly have an easy gig in this regard. Thursday is the entertainment teams day off, but I hardly noticed this due to the limited number of activities when it was there day on! The evening entertainment is a fixed 7 day programme. Some acts are better than others, but nonetheless, it is decent and always has participation for those who are willing. The Michael Jackson tribute is a good watch and so too is the Cypriot Dancing night.....lots of entertainment and tribute acts on offer on The Strip too. There is mini disco for the kids each night which always goes down well with the little ones after dinner around 20:00hrs and then bingo or a music quiz after the main act at around 22:00hrs. Entertainment done by 23:00hrs including the All Inclusive drinks....so get your last drinks in 10 minutes before! STAFF: The staff at this hotel contribute hugely at making this hotel what it is. They are lovely, always offer a smile and willing to help where they can. You are greeted by a welcoming reception team on arrival, and departure, and are available to answer those travel questions or queries. The housekeeping team work so hard at keeping The Vangelis clean and presentable. Those ladies work so hard during the early morning pool area clean and keeping your rooms fresh. The bar staff are so funny, and are just typical holiday bar staff. They know what drink you want before you even ask. As mentioned, they love the banter with the kids too and never leave them out or waiting in the corner for that coca-cola in the midday sun. The restaurant team are professional and attentive at your visit to breakfast, lunch or dinner and work tirelessly at keeping the restaurant presentable at all times. The entertainment team are good with the kids, more so in the evening than daytime and I have heard exceptionally good things about the kids club (our kids didn't use it so can't give any review to this, but it is available). It would be nice to see the Hotel Manager wondering around and interacting with guests, this was always the case at other hotels, but certainly didn't effect our holiday, its just nice being asked if everything was okay with your stay from a senior member. SPA: The Spa area is a lovely quaint area, where you get your pool towels from. Its a little bit of peace and quiet and tranquility. Its situated down a set of stairs from the pool area backing on to the main evening bar area. As always though, the prices aren't very competitive, and this is a shame as the staff are lovely, but with a cheaper price list, I feel this would be used a lot more by guests, but those people we did speak with, who were happy to pay the price only had good things to say about their experience. The hotel has a well equipped gym area, which isn't very well signposted but is in the basement area. It opens at around half 7, which could do with opening earlier in my view, but the equipment is modern and the setting is clean and cool. CONCLUSION: The Vangelis is a perfect hotel offering all that is required for a wonderful holiday in Cyprus. Its clean, modern, friendly and situated in an absolute perfect location. Would I recommend this hotel to my family and friends.....absolutely 100%. As mentioned, we have already booked for July 2027 after staying here twice this year already. We looked at other hotels, and have stayed in other hotels in Protaras, and for the money you pay, this is a perfect All Inclusive hotel, which is a genuine 4 star hotel that takes some beating based upon all the metrics I have mentioned. Give it a try, yes it could do with some slight amendments, but The Vangelis offers plenty of positives with only a few minor negatives. Thank you Vangelis for some wonderful memories, and we look forward to making more memories next year! POSITIVES: Clean, friendly and welcoming Staff are wonderful Value for money Location Adult only section & Family friendly Modern rooms Interactive Hotel App Good quality food and drinks Safe environment Evening entertainment IMPROVEMENTS: Daytime activity programme Snack bar choices/offerings Spa prices
