Admiral Grand Hotel

When my husband was taken ill on holiday at the Admiral, the Staff could not have been more caring and helpful. Miss Branca, the General Manager, visited him in the hospital, an hour away, l to ensure he was ok. During the whole of our extended stay, the hotel staff were exemplary.

Beautiful location, set in a quiet bay. A few restaurants, supermarket, lovely bakery and pharmacy all opposite the hotel. The hotel is situated directly on a shingle beach, so take some beach shoes. Plenty of sunbeds, so no issue finding one whatever time of day, and if the weather is not good enough to sit outside there are sunbeds by the indoor pool as well. All the staff are friendly and pleasant so ignore any reviews that say they are not. Rooms are large and spacious with beautiful views, and the quietest we've ever stayed in. Restaurant food was very good both for breakfast and evening meal, but we did not approve of the cost of the bottled water, when tap water is readily available. The snack bar served excellent burgers at lunch time, but we often went to either the restaurant over the road, Maestral, which we can recommend to share a pizza or to the lovely bakery for some pastries. There is a bus stop directly outside to Dubrovnik and other buses available at the main road which is a very short walk away. We went on a couple of TUI trips to Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina, both very good, but a long time on the coach especially to Montenegro. We also made our own way around by bus to Dubrovnik, Ston and Trsteno Arboretum. The area is very quiet and not much to do after your evening meal other than go for a walk, so be prepared for this. We would definitely stay at this hotel again, as we had an amazing chill out holiday. The only negatives are the cost of the bottled water at the hotel, the tea and coffee in the room is not replenished (so take some extra or buy at the supermarket) and the room fridge is stocked with their expensive drinks. I asked if we could remove them to put our own things in and they said 'no'. I would suggest that the hotel sorts these minor issues and then everything would be absolutely perfect. A big shout out to our TUI rep, Kristina, she was amazing, the best rep ever.

We’ve just returned from a fabulous holiday, our first visit to Croatia but not our last. Having stayed in many 5* Hotels, we would say the Admiral Grand is more high end 4* The Hotel is right on the beach, set in a small village (Slano) with stunning views. The pool bar offers refreshing drinks and the most delicious burgers, highly recommended if peckish lunchtime. We really enjoyed the food, breakfast is very good and dinner had an extensive choice of dishes on offer, my husband who loves meat was in meat heaven! We found the dining room staff pleasant and helpful. The bottled table water charge didn’t bother us, but as many have mentioned there would not be a charge in a 5* hotel and at least free tap water should be on offer. From start to finish we felt welcome and found the hotel staff, polite, professional and friendly. The hotel is quiet, very peaceful and just the relaxing break we needed. We returned home refreshed and rested and already planning our trip to return. Ps: Do take the bus into Beautiful Dubrovnik but be aware finding the return bus stop can be tricky, We walked to the bus station. The bus drivers are friendly and helpful, if in doubt just ask.

Set in a gorgeous picturesque village with gorgeous bays and mountains it really gives you that chill out wow factor. Rooms are a very nice size with a good size bathroom and balcony. I was top floor 3rd floor room 301 with a magnificent view out across the bay. Hotel overall extremely clean. Lovely near on private beach. You could always get a sun bed around by the pool, even in the middle of the afternoon. Food was fairly basic, I would always find something really nice to eat. Not the biggest of choice but still very nice. You can drink the tap water here, yet in the restaurant you have to pay for bottle water which I thought was quite unfair. After dinner could be quite boring. In the 7 nights I stayed I think only 2 nights we had evening entertainment. Found by 9:30pm 90% of guests had gone to bed. Opposite the hotel there's a small supermarket, post office and bus stop. Within 2 minutes walk you have a ice parlour, 3 restaurants, 1 bar 1 bakery and 2 souvenir shops. There's a beautiful marina 5 minutes walk away. I booked this hotel as a 4 star hotel, and thats exactly what I got. On the sign Outside it says 5 star hotel. But it's a very good 4 star hotel. If you want a week of totally relaxation then book here. Ignore the bad reviews this is a lovely hotel. Definitely book a sea view room.

Having just spent a week at the Admiral Grand, we would recommend this hotel, but dependant on what you are looking for. If you are looking for entertainment every night, kids club and a party vibe, then you may want to look elsewhere. On the other hand, if you are looking for a comfortable hotel with good food, easy access to a beach for a quiet relaxing stay in a beautiful setting, then this would be a great choice. We flew with TUI, on their early morning flight, meaning that we arrived at the hotel around lunchtime, an hour transfer from Dubrovnik airport. The hotel has quite a late check in time (3pm), which from what I have read is quite common in Croatia. There is a room to store your luggage, a pool bar to order some food from, or a couple of establishments right outside of the hotel that also do good food and a cold beer. The room (173)…… A good size, plenty of storage space, spacious balcony. 173 is located at the front of the hotel looking at the hills. With a fully stocked mini bar, flat screen TV, free to use safe, robes, slippers. A couple of things we liked were the shoe rack by the door and hooks to hang things on in the bathroom. A small thing but having stayed in many hotels that don't have them, it makes so much difference. The shower gets a special mention, as you could probably extinguish forest fires with it the water pressure was that good, and always hot water whatever time of day we had a shower. I particularly liked the control panel on the wall that you could use to switch the air con on and off, set its temperature and place a do not disturb on the room. Dining...... There is no all-inclusive here, so breakfast and dinner only. I had read several reviews before we chose the Admiral, and a few were a bit disparaging about the food. Dinner, there were the basics like grilled veg, chips, pasta, potatoes which didn't change much through the week, then the meats, four or five options daily, which I have to say we cooked to perfection, then always two or three fish dishes to choose from. Lots in cold section of salads, fish, cheese etc. Breakfast was all the usual cooked breakfast suspects, omelettes cooked to order, breads, cakes, cereals, tea, coffee, cakes, salads, hams. One thing to note though, if like us you have allergies, none of the dish labels have allergy information on them, however just ask one of the waiting staff they are more than willing to help. Handy stuff to know...... If you don't want to hire a car or go on excursions, then buses are a good price. The number 12 runs from Slano to the bus station in Dubrovnik and will set you back 3.70 euros, if you want the Old Town then you can get off a few stops before and walk down the hill, or catch a 1a, 1b, or 3 from the road outside the bus station which terminates at the Old Town (2.50 Euros). I found an app called LibertasApp which shows bus stops locations and times. The bus stop is also directly over the road from the hotel. You shouldn't have any problems finding a cash machine, they are everywhere you look, we didn't use them so unable to comment further on that. If you are going into Dubrovnik Old Town, best to check the cruise ship schedule, as the Old Town can get extremely busy when the ships are in. Just around the bay a little in Slano is Plaža Slano, we spoke to a lovely lady there and hired a kayak for a couple of hours, very relaxed when it came to timings, and adjusted the bill accordingly as we were just over an hour and a half. Water Shoes are a must, not only for the beach, which is gravel, but also there are quite a few sea urchins, and you don’t want to be standing on one of those in bare feet. Our impressions of The Admiral, Slano, Dubrovnik and Croatia, are all positive, from the hotel team’s welcome, the restaurant staff being very helpful and efficient. The tranquillity of Slano to the stunning landscape and beauty of Croatia. Croatians obviously care about their environment, which was evident from the cleanliness and lack of litter. Croatia we are missing you already and hope to do some more exploring next year.
