Hotel Komodor

Location was good, very close to the beach. Very close to Lapad strip and nearest bus stop that takes you to the city centre. The room was like something from the 1980s, the bed was creaky, slanted and matched the vibe of the room (not a great vibe). The door looked unsteady so we put a chair against it to make sure it was closed. They used a key rather than a key card. The view was amazing though looked over the swimming pool and the lovely picturesque sea view made for a nice sunset. Breakfast was mediocre lots of choice but had lots of flies flying around. Again the decor inside matched the decor of the rooms. Fine for a short stay and good value,but due to booking complication, we had to move hotels halfway through our trip luckily enough. Wouldn’t be rushing back.

Well positioned hotel.Komodor is described as 3* and I think this very fair . Our room in the annexe was perfectly adequate , it only lacked a chair or 2 .We had no balcony but other than that no issues.Room cleaned every day and towels changed every day unusually as we had not requested and always folded them rather than leaving on floor Room and bathroom well fitted. No lift in the annexe so beware if movement an issue. Breakfast was very good with wide range,we only used the buffet dinner once but seemed fine. Staff all pleasant-Croations can occasionally come across as a little brusque but no issues with any staff .Ivanka and the rest of the dining room team(sorry I have no more names )were always polite.In the bar we got to know Mario and especially Zoran who adopted us and could not do enough for us-a lovely man. Being mid/late October weather was only mild and the sun didn't move around to the pool area until late afternoon so minimal sunbathing!

Positives: Amazing view from sea view balcony room (so glad we upgraded) Good choice at breakfast, plenty of fresh fruit and something for everyone, including my friend who is a vegetarian Despite the negatives below, it was good value for money (less than £100 per night). If they do refurb, I expect it will be much more expensive. Negatives: Very dated Lift button to the 3rd floor didn’t work, so you had to get out at floor 2 and walk up a flight of stairs. It was just the button that needed to be fixed as you could call the lift from the 3rd floor The aircon wasn’t working as despite it being 22/23 degrees they had decided it was cold and switched it to heating. All the hotel had to have the same, couldn’t be set individually by room. After our complaint, thankfully Ana on reception found us a fan from another hotel. It would have been very difficult to sleep without it. She was so helpful and did everything she could to find a solution. Avoid the Annex rooms if you need a lift as there isn’t one.

Dream week we had. Spoilt by their food and amazing hospitality. They're so friendly! And work real hard! Zoltan really looked after us. "We are family" 🙂 we really did feel like it. We stayed in the original building and it's a bit dated and small rooms but it didn't bother us. They're clean and I had the best - most powerful - shower of my life 😁 Pool area is lovely too.

The room itself is clean but very small (but its cheap). The thing for me is the claim about the ample amenities. There are few. No fridge, no kettle, no coffee making facilities. On asking for the loan of a kettle there was a rude " we don't do kettles". The brusque attitude was most unwelcome But a very nice fellow in the bar managed to loan us four small coffee cups with hot water for tea. Still. I would not recommend this hotel.
