Royal Palm Hotel

We’ve just got back from a fabulous ten night stay in the Royal Palm hotel. The room was ready when we got there just before 11.00am. Seamless booking in an our room was a few steps away from the reception. When we opened the door we were blown away with the size of it. I knew it was a suite I’d booked and it was extremely spacious. The lounge area was extremely big with a cloakroom with a big shower in it. The bedroom had a massive bed with ample cupboards, wardrobes and an en-suite with a bath, toilet, bidet etc. A big balcony lead off this room. We booked on a half board basis. The breakfasts were fantastic, with tastes to suit everyone. The evening meal offering was also very good, with ample choices. There were at least four themed nights during our stay - a BBQ night, an Italian night etc. Great salad bar and food that was varied every night and hot. We met a lovely couple so one night we had a pizza in one of the many themed on site restaurants. The weather was wall to wall sunshine except for one afternoon when we had light rain for an hour or so. Probably the best part of the hotel was the staff, from the guys who sorted Sun loungers & towels every morning, to the bar staff and especially the waitresses in the morning and evening. I must mention Alexandra - who had my bacon and eggs ready and waiting even before I’d got my toast ready - Josko, Ivan and Mia etc. Nothing was too much trouble and they all seemed to have constant smiles. We will go back again.

We stayed B&B at this hotel for one week. We had a very nice sea view room which was spacious, clean, with a large, comfortable bed and a generous shower room. Breakfast was always good with plenty of choice and we often ordered an omelette or eggs on toast to be freshly made. All the staff in the hotel worked hard and were always friendly with the reception staff being extremely helpful and informative regarding the local area. Our only negatives were the bath towels were rather small and though our bedroom was spacious the wardrobe area was too small to fit a weeks worth of clothes for two people! Also, Unfortunately , the outdoor pool in our hotel was not in use for the duration of our stay so we had to take a short walk to one of the other hotels pools. But our biggest gripe was the dreadful ‘Muzak’ ( elevator type of music) that is played absolutely everywhere apart from the bedrooms. So while sitting outside for breakfast or having drinks in the evening at the bar, instead of hearing the sea, the Muzak drowns it out. Completely unnecessary and lowers the class of the hotel. I believe a few tweaks could easily make this hotel into a five star hotel.

Week away with friends and the hotel didn’t disappoint. Our room was ready upon arrival so managed a slightly early check in. 1 room out of our group of 3 wasn’t quite ready so a complimentary drink voucher was offered. We hadn’t paid for a sea view but one of our friends had….if the price upgrade is within your budget it’s well worth it- beautiful. We and our other friends didn’t upgrade but the view wasn’t disappointing….we could see mountains in the distance but you don’t get sun on the balcony in an afternoon (if that’s what you like) Plenty of available sun loungers in various pools….the lifeguards do a fab job of clearing beds away when not in use keeping the pool areas spotless. They will place beds in a free spot for you when asked….and provide towels and parasol if needed. I liked this as it kept the areas tidy - the salt water pools are drained every afternoon, cleaned and refilled in the morning so the water & pools are clean. Pool waiter service very quick and efficient. We are early risers for breakfast, wide choice, everything fresh and staff always polite. Being early we always had a good choice of where to sit. If it’s warm the outside edge gives fabulous views of the coast. We made the most of the time relaxing with a couple of extra coffees or a glass of complimentary fizz. We never felt rushed by the staff which was lovely and as a group of friends added to our enjoyment of this hotel before our day out exploring. The promenade at the front of the hotel is beautiful leading you by a short walk (15 mins) into a small town with bars and restaurants. We only ate at the hotel on our last evening, quick pizza before an early night. It was lovely. All staff were polite, but a special mention to our maid Milanka. Our room was swiftly made up whilst having breakfast always to a high standard. We aren’t untidy people on holiday so I am sure this assists in the time allocated to each room. The bathroom in particular was like a shiny new pin every day. Bed linen & towels spotlessly clean. This isn’t an adult only hotel, (which is our normal preferred choice) but as it’s not aimed at children there wasn’t many staying, I only saw 2 family’s during that week. Bus stop outside with an easy commute into Dubrovnik city, we all brought a city pass which included free bus trips and is very easy to use. They run late into the evening too. If you’re heading into the city a few times, doing the wall the city pass is a fab saving. Overall a this hotel was a fab base for us to explore Dubrovnik city but stay in a area of outstanding beauty - I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again (or in the sister hotels adjacent) Croatia has taken a bit of our hearts… I am sure we will return

We had a wonderful time during our stay here. The hotel is great with all the facilities even if we were there off-season. We want to thank especially to Josko. He was so helpful and nice every single day with our questions! All the team is so friendly! The hotel has great views, you have your food with view every single day. The rooms are big enough and super clean! We will definitely be back!

Royal Palm Stay The hotel is beautiful but lacks luster to say the least. We arrived with a packaged holiday around 1:30 PM, unable to check in. The hotel itself has only one common area. We were offered a beverage while we wait, but 1.5 hours doesn't go by very quickly when there is no form of entertainment anywhere in the hotel. No pool tables, tvs, or reading nooks. We were then checked into a two king connecting rooms, no living/common space. A room the staff thought would be more accommodating vice the one I paid for. The receptionist was mindful of enough to show us the actual room type we paid for, a suite with a common space and mini kitchen. We moved rooms. Traveling to with a toddler and teen, we know that we need a common space for eating and playing games. After settling into the room we noticed some amenities were missing. The room has a stove and microwave. There were no basic kitchen appliances and the microwave had to be physically moved for single use. This hotel is not all inclusive, we needed to be able to use the stove due to early morning excursions. No pots, pans, utensils, salt or pepper. When we called for a pan, a pot was delivered, still no utensils. The fridge did have a mini bar and the amenities in the bathroom were very nice. The bathroom door in the main room sounded as it would come off of the hinges every time it opened. When we checked in the pillows on the king bed were encased in beautiful gold and embroidered pillowcases. The next day when the room was serviced we received traditional white linen pillowcases. Not a big deal, but it took away from the “luxury” feel. The room was likely not ready for guests. The king bed was positioned in front of another king bed post. In addition to nails being in the wall where there were maybe once paintings. The outdoor pools were not only closed but unserviced. They were destitute and smelly, no water only dirt for viewing. The hotel is a part of a larger chain on the same strip, there was no mention of those areas and or bars/restaurants for enjoyment. Day after day our housekeeper missed key items even after stopping her in the hallway to tell her our specific needs. Almost every day day, a single roll of tissue in the bathroom for 4 people, no glasses, no coffee, and less than 4 towels. There was also no iron and ironing board in the room. The only operating pool in the Palm was out of towels and the pool although advertised as warm, was room temperature. Upon check out were given a €400 bill for the mini bar. We used every inch of that room and there was no mini bar price list anywhere visible. It should have been in or on the fridge. There were multiple markets within blocks where we were able to purchase wine and food. There is no way I would have rightfully drank/ate €400 worth of mini fridge items when I could have spent €100 at the market for the entire week. The receptionist called the manager and this went unresolved. We visited the Valamar while there. That is truly a luxury hotel and if given the choice, that is where I would stay. Not worth the money.
