We left our home in Scandinavia behind for a week under the Croatian sun. It was our first visit to Croatia, and although we had heard nothing but good things about the country, we really didn’t know what to expect. We chose TUI BLUE Kalamota Island because the hotel and its surroundings looked absolutely breathtaking in the photos. I have to admit that I was slightly skeptical about spending an entire week on such a small island. I usually like to explore, see lots of different places, and keep busy with activities when I travel. As it turned out, I had absolutely nothing to worry about. Kalamota surprised me in the best possible way. Getting there was easy. The transfer from Dubrovnik Airport with the Platanus shuttle bus to the ferry port was smooth and straightforward. We had downloaded the Jadrolinija ferry app beforehand, which made buying tickets and finding the right departures incredibly easy. The ferry also makes it very convenient to take a day trip to Dubrovnik, which is definitely worth doing. And if you go, don’t miss walking the famous walls surrounding the Old Town. When we arrived on Kalamota — or Koločep, as the island is also known — TUI staff were waiting at the harbor to collect our luggage. Our suitcases were transported to the hotel and delivered directly to our room at no extra charge. A very nice welcome! The hotel itself is excellent. The pool area is beautiful, the rooms are lovely, and there is always something going on without the atmosphere ever feeling too busy. A couple of evenings during the week there was a “silent disco,” which turned out to be much more fun than we expected — and there was plenty of dancing! The food is plentiful and good. The buffet may not change dramatically from day to day, but there is such a wide selection that you certainly don’t have to eat the same things every day. The hotel also has an à la carte restaurant a little farther down the beach. The food there was excellent, and the setting is wonderfully romantic. The island itself was one of the biggest surprises for me. There are some fantastic walks through beautiful and at times dramatic scenery. Everywhere you go, you come across figs, pomegranates, olives, and all the other wonderful things that thrive under the southern sun. Another very welcome surprise: we hardly encountered any mosquitoes at all during our stay. And then there is the Adriatic Sea. The water really is as crystal clear as people say. Within a short walk of the hotel, there are some wonderful places for snorkeling, with plenty of fish to see. Finally, I have to mention the staff. Without exception, everyone we met throughout our stay was friendly, welcoming, and smiling. A special mention must go to Michael, whose fantastic personality and genuine ability to connect with the guests really stood out. He was always happy to talk, share his knowledge of the island and the area, and make people feel welcome. He genuinely added something special to our vacation and helped make an already wonderful week even more memorable. Mar at the bar also deserves a special thank-you. Like Michael, he has a wonderful way with people and creates a great atmosphere around the bar. He makes fantastic cocktails, is happy to share his knowledge, and even helped us figure out where we could buy the key ingredient for the hotel’s delicious signature cocktail, the Kalamota. Now we can hopefully bring a little taste of the island home with us! We can wholeheartedly recommend TUI BLUE Kalamota Island, its wonderful staff, and this beautiful little Croatian paradise. It is a place filled with relaxation, romance, nature, charm, and a genuine sense of well-being. We came here wondering whether a week on a tiny island might feel too long. We are leaving wishing we could stay a little longer.
Great experience and friendly staff especially Marin who made us feel so welcome!
So relaxing, quiet, beautiful and picturesque. The staff couldn't have done any more for you. Always a bed near the pool or beach. Amazingly clean. Some entertainment - dabbled in the silent disco which was fun. Local Croatian singers and in-house entertainment. Lots of steps up and down to pool, restaurant and bars. The best thing by far was the choice in food - it catered for everyone, and being a fish lover I could have fish 'lunch and dinner everyday in some form.' I would highly recommend this hotel.
Great place to relax. The staff is very friendly and pleasant, great atmosphere. Rooms are clean.
Beautiful location but !!!! The hotel is set on a beautiful island the hotel staff were excellent and a special mention to TJ from the TUI Blue team . Now the but !!! The hotel is very tired and in desperate need of of a refurbishment. Our room was in block 2 which was a little climb (felt sorry for the people in the higher blocks) .. The air conditioning didn’t work properly so a floor fan was provided.. The cups and glasses in the room were not always washed every day .. We have stayed previously at other TUI Blue hotels and the food selection at this hotel is the worst we have experienced . It was the same every day whether it was chicken legs or wings , beef , ribs , belly pork … We stayed for 11 nights and really struggled with the same selection every night .. no show cooking.. no fresh prawns for a salad .. no sandwich selection for a lunch time .. We have stayed at many All inclusive hotels previously mainly with TUI but unfortunately this does not meet our expectations of a 4 star plus rating
