Hotel Excelsior - Liburnia

Food was absolutely appalling in the evening buffet except the pizzas and salad. Meat, fish dishes were awful Rooms at the front of hotel overlook a garage and road. Impossible to sit on balcony due to fumes

The hotel is in a good location for the village although there’s not much in the local area to see and do, other than swimming or walking along the Lungomare. Opatija is a 15 minute bus ride away or you can walk it in just over an hour. The hotel has all the usual facilities of a standard 4 star. My room was spacious and the bed was very comfy. It was cleaned daily and the towels changed. It overlooked the road, which was noisy during the day but quiet at night, but most importantly I had the late afternoon sun on my balcony! The buffet food at breakfast and dinner was plentiful, hot and fresh. There was a good choice so you should find something you like. Ordering drinks in the restaurant took ages so I’d suggest buying what you want from the bar beforehand and taking it with you. There’s no beach, just a concrete swimming/platform. Avoid the steps into the sea, they’re incredibly slippery (I slipped down two and hurt my back). Instead turn left from the back of the hotel and walk two minutes to the small pebble beach where you can walk straight into the sea.

Good location, nice, spaceful hotel, nice rooms/bathrooms, excellent wellness area, medium - quality food. Bar excellent. Right on the beatiful promenade 'Lungomare'. Only can be recommended.

Unfortunately, the overall experience was disappointing due to several facility and service-related issues. The rooms are noticeably outdated, and despite multiple reports, the air conditioning remained non-functional for two days, which significantly impacted comfort. The timing of the children's entertainment was puzzling, starting as late as 9 PM, which seems unsuitable for younger guests. Additionally, the half-board option appears to be the only available package, and the reason becomes clear upon seeing the high prices of food and beverages. It felt as though the pricing strategy was designed to maximize profit rather than provide value to guests. A particularly frustrating aspect was the removal of all beverages—including water—after breakfast. It seemed intentional, as containers were emptied, leaving guests with no choice but to purchase drinks at inflated prices. Lastly, guests with dietary restrictions should be aware that allergy information is not clearly displayed, which could pose a serious concern for those with specific needs.

Great hotel in a lovely quiet town. This hotel has great friendly and helpful staff. We stayed half board for a week with TUI and found the food options really good with a great choice at breakfast and evening meals. Our room was on the 6th floor( twin room with sea view) and was clean and had good storage space along with a good sized balcony. A good place to stay for a week , and on a good bus route to Opatija and Reikja costing about 11 euro return for 2 people to Reikja. The walk to Opatija along the Lungomare took about 1hr40 mins as we we took in the sights and read the information boards along the way .There is also places to stop and fill your wstet bottle and grab something to eat.
