Meraki Resort

Moustafa is our favourite we like everything here will come back again I hope

As two young girls travelling to Egypt for the first time without much travelling experience, we were both excited and a little nervous about our stay at Meraki Resort. Overall, the resort itself is very beautiful and well kept. The grounds are lovely, the atmosphere is relaxing, and it’s a really nice place to spend time by the beach or pool. One thing that might be helpful for future guests to know is that the hotel uses towel cards which you exchange for beach towels each day. We weren’t sure if there would be any before arriving. The food was amazing and definitely one of the highlights of the stay. The restaurants offered a great variety compared to the buffet and everything we tried was delicious. However, there were also a few things that made us feel uncomfortable. When we first arrived, we didn’t know what an “animation team” was or that there would be one. At the beginning they were extremely full-on, which felt like a lot when we were just trying to settle in and get our bearings. A lot of the time they were trying to sell tickets for the club. We went once out of curiosity but honestly it wasn’t anything special. It was quite small, pretty empty, and not really worth the price. Another issue we experienced was that some staff members were quite persistent in flirting or asking us to go out with them outside the resort. As young women travelling alone, this sometimes felt uncomfortable and unprofessional. There seemed to be a theme where some people struggled to take no for an answer, which meant we had to get quite creative to avoid certain situations. I really hope feedback like this is taken seriously because it can affect how safe guests feel. The room itself was also a bit disappointing compared to the rest of the resort. The decoration felt quite basic and dated. There were shelves with hangers that weren’t very functional, an old TV, and a kettle attached to a box that wasn’t even near a plug, meaning we had to move the whole unit if we wanted to use it. Our sink was also leaking during the stay. Considering how nice the rest of the hotel is, we expected a bit more from a 4-star hotel. On the positive side, our cleaner Mamoud was absolutely lovely and always a pleasure to see each day. He did a great job and was very friendly. Some members of the animation team were also easy going and nice to chat with once we got to know them a bit. However, something we didn’t like was how reviews were encouraged. At one point an animation team member approached us while we were waiting for food and told us to open Google on our phones. It felt like we were being pushed to write a review on the spot in front of them, even when we said we were busy waiting for food. That kind of pressure didn’t feel very genuine and made us question how many reviews might be written in similar situations and therefore may not be completely honest. Overall, Meraki Resort is a beautiful place with great food and some lovely staff members, and it’s a relaxing environment to spend time in. However, the rooms could definitely use updating, and we hope the resort takes feedback about staff boundaries seriously, especially when it comes to young female travellers.
