Avra Imperial Hotel

Hotel approx 45 mins in car from Chania airport, nothing really around the hotel, town is very quiet. Hotel was only at 30% capacity during our stay as its end of season however still felt relaxed. Food was really good, in fact best I’ve had in a buffet and al a carte setting for another country, it was fresh and different. The Asian restaurant on site is something else! Food was fantastic. Big pools, clean everywhere and service from all the staff was really good. The rooms are the only thing stopping this being 5/5 for me. Considering the price paid and the rest of the complex, high standard of food, the rooms were a little underwhelming, or certainly ours was. It was very tired, worn and needs an upgrade. Room was really big including balcony.

We had an enjoyable stay at Avra Imperial. The hotel is very nicely decorated, rooms very good and an excellent pool. There were plenty of sun loungers available, even after lunch but the whole poolside experience was let down by the very poor quality of the sun loungers, not comfortable at all!! The other downside was the buffet. Good selection of food but no special cooking stations and we found the food mostly luke warm. Not the standard we would expect of a hotel of this quality. We ate at the Seaside and Blue Dong restaurants. Both were very good. Great access to local restaurants a short walk away. With a few tweaks this could be a first class hotel but it’s not quite there yet.

Yet again we have had another fabulous stay at Avra Imperial in Crete. The hotel was wonderful as always, with a particulalry beautiful room. Weh ave staye din the Avra many times now, twice this year alone. The staff are consistently professional, friendly and attentive always. A special mention must go to Dora on reception, who was exceptionally helpful and welcoming. We ate several times at the Sea Side restaurant in the evenings and really enjoyed it. The food was fantastic, the setting is incredible, and it offers something quite different from the other restaurants in the hotel. The staff in the Seaside restaurant are so lovely and made each visit feel special. The Avra introduced an adults only area of their hotel and we ate breakfast in the Greek restuaurant and it was was wonderful for a long leisurely coffees in the morning, a really great idea. The hotel work shard to accommodate all guests in a way that everyone feels special. I would also particularly recommend the spa. I had two treatments during our stay and both were excellent. Katerina, the spa manager, was extremely helpful, knowledgeable and flexible when arranging the timings. I had a body treatment with Nicoletta which was unlike anything I had experienced before. Her attention to detail was exceptional and the treatment itself was absolutely fantastic. Avra Imperial continues to be a hotel we thoroughly enjoy returning to, and once again the quality of the accommodation, food, spa and, most importantly, the staff made it a wonderful stay. Highly recommended.

Positive: the SPA, fresh orange juice, food, pools, cleaning everywhere, safety all around and everyone very professional. To improve: have a real salted butter and, sometimes, to control the (instable) weather.

Great location. Hotel is a little dated. The so called deluxe room beds are hard pillows are old and lumpy. Reception are rude and argumentative. Television doesn’t work. No iron, bathroom smelt funny. Food wasn’t the best. Before you have finished the meal the waiters are taking you plates. Wouldn’t come back. It’s a 4 star definitely not a 5 star hotel.
