Has potential - just returned from a weeks holiday at Bella Beach. We booked it last minute - I emailed the hotel in advance to see if we could upgrade to a room with a private pool - but they said there weren’t any available We arrived at the hotel with another family who were upgraded to a 2 bedroom with a private pool - I was gutted!! Our room wasn’t ready so we had to wait for about 30 mins - not a great start We were eventually taken to the room. The room itself was better than it looked on the internet, and as a bonus we had 2 bathrooms- but hardly any storage! The room was for 2 adults and 2 teenagers - there was 1 wardrobe, with 2 drawers in it, and just 2 drawers in each bedroom! It was so bad we had to live out of our suitcases - not good for a 4 star hotel!!!! The showers were bad in both rooms - the one with the cubicle- the door didn’t shut so the floor was covered in water, and in the one with the bath, the shower screen had a gap between the screen and the wall so again the room just flooded. We reported the issue but no one cared! The buffet was good, wide selection and freshly cooked section, also loads of salad We sat outside the first night in a court yard area - but it was full of cats! If you don’t like cats - this is not the resort or hotel for you- the place is teeming with them! It was awful - we sat inside all the other nights We went to the 2 a la carte restaurants which were ok but at the sea food one - the stray cats were literally patrolling the restaurant and one tried to climb onto my chair !!!!! We couldn’t wait to leave The pool is lovely as is the beach but the grounds are really shabby - not well maintained and the beach bar area was really poor There’s a lovely promenade running along the beach, with lots of shops and some restaurants. We ate out twice in the evenings which broke up the all inclusive The staff were the best thing about this hotel- really helpful and friendly Overall we had a good holiday, and it has bags of potential.

Just back from a week at Bella Beach for a family holiday. It's good, but not great. Bella Beach is a smaller hotel by comparative standards, so there's pro's and cons to that depending on what you're looking for. Even in half term week it didn't feel too busy whereas some of the neighbouring hotels looked packed in like sardines. We could always get a lounger by the pool, albeit we're early-ish risers, could always get a table for a meal no problem and the pool never felt busy. Generally it was pretty quiet, aside kids playing and the daily aquagym session. The staff were great, all very friendly and helpful. We needed to move a room as it had got lost between the travel agent and hotel we wanted adjoining rooms with our children and that was sorted without a problem first morning. The restaurant staff were very good. Overall the food was very good with plenty of variety each day and an ever changing choice daily. Perhaps not as much variety as some I've stayed out, but that's been picky really. The bathroom scales confirm we ate well. If I have one criticism of the dining, it's the lack of ability to really eat outside. You can east outside at the pool snack bar, but the main restaurant (aside a small courtyard with no shade) is basically indoors. A shame really for when you're abroad in good weather. The rooms were clean and comfortable and cleaned each day. They do what they need to, you're not there to spend all day in them! It's a bit dull in the evenings. Due to being a smaller hotel there's not much going on after dinner. Couple of mini disco's that are less engaging for anyone over the age of 4, a quiz one night, there was some sort of show in the pool, but not very thrilling. Personally I'm happy to have a drink and an early night on holiday, but if you want more entertainment, this isn't it. Lastly, I thought it a bit odd for an all inclusive holiday they would charge you after 11pm for drinks and my wife was a bit miffed there was no prosecco although the drinks generally were fine. This is rated as a 5 star hotel. This rating system is a bit pointless really on an international level (probably needs to be 1-10), but even along the north Crete coast I've stayed at better 5 star hotels. I'd give this a 4 star rating personally. All in all a good holiday and hotel, but not a great one.
