Candia Park Village

We stayed at Candia Park Village in September 2026. While the resort itself has a beautiful setting, our overall experience was heavily compromised by poor communication, safety hazards, and significant hygiene issues. The Positives: * Beautiful Village Layout & Landscaping: The resort grounds are stunning, perfectly capturing a traditional Cretan village atmosphere. The beach is excellent, the pools are great for both adults and kids, and the maintenance team works hard sweeping the stairs and raking the beach nightly. * Family-Friendly Ground Floor: Our room was a bit dated but comfortable. Having a ground-floor unit with a garden proved to be excellent for our kids. The Disappointments: * Serious Safety Hazards for Children: There were constantly broken glass shards left on the ground right outside the restaurant and pool area. Because this is directly adjacent to the pool, children are frequently walking around barefoot. Our son unfortunately cut his toe on the glass. It is incredibly dangerous for a family-focused resort to neglect clearing shattered glass from high-traffic pool zones. * Housekeeping Neglect: Our room cleaning was fine, but our towels were not changed for the first four nights of our stay. This felt far too long for a family holiday, especially given the health issues that followed. * Poor Communication from Arrival: Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly, but given almost no foundational information about timings for dinner, kids' activities, or hotel schedules. We were left to simply "go with the flow" and follow crowds to figure things out. * Uncomfortable Room Amenities & Power Cuts: Our first day was highly disruptive due to two power cuts. Compounding this, the room pillows were thin, stiff, and far below a premium 4-star standard. * The "Captive Market" Atmosphere: Because the resort is isolated, it quickly began to feel like a captive market where the priority was extracting extra revenue from us. For instance, when we brought our own water to dinner, we were told to keep it on the floor, and our glasses were taken away. It felt incredibly uncomfortable. * Inflated Local Logistics: When we decided to go into town—which reception quoted as an €11 taxi ride—we were told we needed a minibus or two taxis because we are a family of five (including our 4-month-old baby). We paid €22 each way, yet when the minibus arrived, it didn't even have a proper baby car seat or kids' seats—only a bottom booster pad. It felt entirely exploitative. The Most Critical Issue (Hygiene and Dining Upgrade): We chose to upgrade to the Half-Board buffet directly at the hotel on arrival. While the chefs worked hard with what they had and the selection was fine, our family unfortunately contracted worms during the stay, which quickly spread among us. Given the delay in getting fresh towels combined with eating at the buffet, this was a severe health and hygiene failure that completely ruined the comfort of our holiday. Conclusion: All in all, Candia Park is a lovely setting with a few warm staff members, but the overall atmosphere felt transactional rather than genuinely welcoming. Last year, we stayed at the Stella Palace on the same island, and the difference in hospitality was outstanding. There, guests are treated with genuine respect and friendliness, without the feeling that staff are looking at you purely as a source of extra revenue. I’d love to return to see some changes and would recommend it, but with caution and preparation.

Fantastic service from start to finish! Very relaxing atmosphere, Anna the therapist was very professional, experienced and accommodating! Irina the spa manager was kind, welcoming and very warm! Overall, amazing experience!

Cantina Service lady Vicky is such a friendly and caring host ! I am enjoying her hospitality very much. The beach is very clean and and all staff members are very friendly ! I will surely come back again !

We had a lovely two weeks here in summer, our children loved the swimming pool and escaping the lunchtime sun at the kids club, where the activities were really engaging, we came home with lots of crafts that had been made during the weeks. We also really enjoyed the children’s cinema nights, morning yoga, gym facilities and water aerobics. The staff were all friendly but special mentions to the lady in the gelato parlour and the lady who worked in the restaurant by the reception. We found them lovely to talk to and made our children really welcome. The only thing we felt was missing was something on an evening, although there was a bar it just felt like it lacked a little bit of atmosphere as we like to have a coffee after our evening meal on the way back to our room. We would definitely return, the grounds are lovely and enjoyed exploring Ag Nik and Elounda.
