Castello Village Resort

The staff at this hotel are spot on and are holding it together. They are friendly, helpful and genuinely want to provide a good service to guests. The entertainment team, hospitality, and maintenance / cleaning team are brilliant and deserve a thank you. What we did find however, they were holding the place together. The hotel itself is not a 4 star hotel. I’d suggest at best it is 3 star, with a really tired appearance, doors are worn (paint has worn off), tiles are cracked / missing / loose round the pools and walk ways, with growth of mould / algae where grout once was and the sun loungers are getting passed their best. The rooms are tired, with leaky shower screens, a lack of plug sockets, thin sheets (end of season it’s getting cooler), and the mattresses are either rock hard or spongy soft (we changed rooms). The rooms are inconsistent and many are surrounding the bar and entertainment areas so it’s noisy. The fridge in our second room wasn’t the cleanest, and some of the sheets were stained. The food offering was reasonable, breakfast was good and for a buffet selection, the evening meal was acceptable. The gym / spa etc was actually in the hotel over the road (Castello Boutique Hotel) and the second restaurant available for use was next door (Castello Boutique Suites). I’d suggest for the last 10 years or so there has been a lack of investment in this resort and they are living on an old rating. It needs some money pumping in to it.

Unfortunately, this has been one of the most disappointing hotel stays we have experienced. On arrival, we were shown to a very tired, dungeon-like room that looked absolutely nothing like the rooms advertised on the hotel’s website. After raising our concerns at reception, we were shown to an alternative room which was an improvement, but still far below the standard we had expected. The rooms are extremely basic and tired-looking, with paper-thin walls meaning you can hear every door slamming and conversations from neighbouring rooms. The bathroom was tiny, the grout was extremely dirty, there was noisy pipework and the shower mixer tap was faulty. To make matters worse, the mattresses were rock hard and incredibly uncomfortable, making for a very poor night’s sleep. However, the biggest disappointment by far was the food. We paid extra for the food package, expecting a good standard of dining and the convenience of being able to eat at the hotel throughout our stay. Unfortunately, not one of the hot food options was actually hot. Everything was served lukewarm, and this was consistently the case at both breakfast and evening meals throughout our stay. The food was also bland, uninspiring and of very poor quality. We have been on many holidays over the years, but this hotel has to be one of the worst experiences we have had when it comes to food standards. We eventually gave up eating at the hotel and started eating out instead, meaning we had paid extra for food that we simply couldn’t enjoy. What has been equally disappointing is the lack of customer service. We raised our concerns with staff, but there seemed to be very little interest in resolving anything or offering a solution. We made several attempts to speak with the General Manager, only to be repeatedly told they weren’t available and to come back later. Eventually, we had to find the General Manager’s email address ourselves and submit our complaint directly. Overall, this hotel has fallen a long way short of our expectations. Between the tired accommodation, uncomfortable beds, poor food quality and lack of management support, it has been a thoroughly disappointing experience. A real shame, as we had been looking forward to our holiday and expected so much better.

Well it's another here we go again!!! Holiday number 6 staying at the Castello and what a fab time we had . Lovely warm welcome on arrival ...we had requested the same room as we stayed in last may which had lovely views which is very important to my cousin and I...the room was spotless as usual never understood when people complain about the cleanliness in the hotel as we have always found it very clean! Food was up to it's high standards with lot of verity only night we didn't eat in was because neither of us are very keen on fish and Tuesdays is fish night. The staff in this hotel are the best! So smiley and caring...will on the bar is a brilliant person, barman , etc he is so particular in the way he prepares your drinks! We had a great night at the bar nearly every night meeting some lovely people. Hopefully we will return next year don't say we haven't warned you hehe 😉 I still have to bring up my biggest bug bare...I really love staying at the Castello but absolutely hate the public toilets they really do need a revamp. Nice hotel village type setting on several levels. Some rooms are affected by noise from noisy poole bar in the evenings. Fortunately was able to be moved to quieter part. Food is buffet style and loads choice including typical Greek food. Lovely friendly staff in restaurant and reception . Several people we met said had booked sea view rooms but really pool view and had mouse problems at night. I think management need enforce quiet after say midnight. Sissi is lovely. 10 mins walk one way along front to harbour bars coffee places and shops and 5 mins the other to small beach inlet with sunbeds and bar. Lovely shallow waters. Would recommend Happy Train up to mountain villages and trip to Agios Nikolaos and Spinalonga. All in all a good hotel in excellent position. Just the pool bar noise at night the main negative

​The location and views here are stunning, and most of the staff were fantastic. However, the property is noticeably run down and lacking upkeep. ​We paid extra for a hot tub that had error and non-working jets. When reported, the maintenance staff member insisted it was fine, and when we challenged him, he rudely said, "Well, I'll just turn it off and you can have nothing." He spent the day walking around looking angry instead of fixing obvious issues. ​Great location, but completely let down by bad maintenance and a shocking attitude.
