Golden Bay Hotel & Bungalows

Horrible . From start was told by tui it was £20 tax , when arriving was told it was £70 and old price had been left on website! I think it's a con . Too quiet. The beach is not a beach. Over an hour walk to any bus stop or decent shops. The town itself is run down and need to go further for decent beach or shops. Joanna the bar women has her faverites,, was friendly to couples ect but I was overlooked as went solo. Made no effort to be friendly and ignored me. To quiet , to far away from anywhere and defo not for solo travellers. Also be prepared to pay more then they advertise. Worse holiday ever.

This hotel was such a great little find for us! It was quieter but very well maintained and looked after! Our room was cleaned regularly and we were tucked away which was really nice. My only gripe about the room was that it would have been nice to have a full length mirror 🪞 The location was good, there is approximately 5/6 restaurants and a small mini market along the front which are about a 5-10 minute walk (all flat ground) when you turn left out of the hotel on the front. If you carry on down that road to an abandoned building and go left, right to the end and go right on the main road, there's a plethora of more shops and restaurants (and a bigger supermarket). Turning right out the hotel, the main road is about a 15-20 minute walk away, there's an amazing little bakery just on the left when you get to the main road, and the bus stop is on the right! There were some reviews which mentioned a hill, the road towards the main road is relatively flat, but just before the main road there is about 10 seconds up a steeper bit (were mid 20s so that could change for anyone with mobility issues). The bus (coach) is super easy to get and comes about every 20 mins/half hour, its 4 euros to Heraklion when we went ☺️ The staff were so welcoming, George on reception was super helpful when we arrived (we got delayed), Joanna and George on the bar were so lovely and friendly, they really made for a great stay!! ❤️ The restaurants were really good as well, we went to In&Out, Ambrosia and Paximadi a couple of times, so definitely recommend! Some also have beaches with loungers on (spend 8 euros and you get a lounger) but we found a small beachy area that had a nice gradual access to the sea. If youre driving its so easy and accessible, if youre happy walking to the bus stop then its also fantastic! We met some great people, had an amazing time and would recommend Crete and this hotel to anyone!! ❤️

This was my second visit to golden bay apartments and I was not disappointed. The staff were amazing as usual, George and Joanna so warm and welcoming. Reception fabulous especially John who drove to Heraklion to collect my bag from lost property. The apartments are modern and comfortable especially the beds. Breakfast was varied and delicious and something for everyone. We stayed for 7 nights and wish we had booked longer. Just a suggestion to management… might be a good idea to move the orange juicer so it’s not causing congestion around tea/coffee machine. Cannot wait to come again next year xx

It's a rare kind of find -both an apartment with kitchenette, lots of space to spread out with a separate bedroom and living space... and at the same time all the amenities you'd want in a hotel, like changing linens, pool, and varied and delicious breakfast buffet. Beds are soft and comfortable, place is immaculately clean, and all at a very fair price. It's also right on the sea and within walking distance of some beaches. The only thing is that it's a bus ride or a 20 minute drive to Heraklion itself. But maybe that's a good thing, because it's peaceful yet still close.

The hotel is on the seafront at Gournes. Although the shore immediately in front of the hotel is rocky, there are good sandy beaches, with lifeguards, just a few minutes walk away. Gournes itself is relatively quiet, but there are a good selection of cafes and restaurants a short walk along the seafront away. There is also a small supermarket and a great bakery nearby. The town of Kokkini Hani is about 1.5 km away. We had a car so we were able to explore, but some people might feel somewhat isolated without. It is worth noting that the hotel is on the flightpath for Heriklian Airport. We loved watching the planes fly all the way down, but be aware of this if it's not your thing. Our room was fabulous with a big balcony with views over the pool and the coast. The staff were a real joy, with a special shout out to Joanna who works tirelessly to make you feel welcome. There is a good poolside bar open early till late, with a wide selection of drinks and snacks. The WiFi is so so. The pool is good, the place is spotless, the breakfast is excellent, and overall we rate it highly and would go back.
