Golden Bay Hotel & Bungalows

Just returned home from a week away with friends. What an amazing hotel. We had two 1 bedroom apartments and both were lovely. We had a view of the pool and sea so used our balcony morning and night. The pool bar staff were both exceptional. Breakfast was incredible and had so much variety.

We arrived mid afternoon, approx 20mins transfer from the airport and was greeted by 2 friendly reception staff, both very welcoming. Taken to a lovely one bed apartment which was spacious and spotlessly clean. Full size fridge with a small freezer section. We didn’t cook whilst there but apartment was well equipped with cutlery, cooking utensils and pans, toaster, microwave and 2 hobs. Free safe and air con, air con was so good and slept well for first time in months. Beds were lovely and comfortable. Every single member of staff was so friendly and made you feel so welcomed. They worked so hard and was lovely to have a chat with Joanna at the bar everyday. Breakfast was delicious, always hot and good choice and regularly replenished. Food at the pool bar was reasonably priced, large portion sizes and yummy- good choice ranging from jacket potatoes/omelettes/mousakka/pasta/baguettes to name a few. Easy to get a bus into Heraklion for €2.40 from bus stop 8 about 15mins up the road (which is also near a bakery and another small shop) Apartments are local to 5 or so restaurants- we tried 3 and never had a bad meal, all reasonable cost. We were on ground floor by the pool and initially I was concerned about how noisy it would be in the evening but pleasantly surprised and even on the entertainment nights we weren’t kept awake. Good vibe during the day, not too loud but music playing round the pool and everyone was respectful of each other. We would return in a second. Thank you to everyone at Golden bay!

This hotel is half hour from airport so not to far airport is very busy We arrived at the hotel early evening while checking in was greeted but the friendly bar man zeion shown to rooms must say the rooms are all perfectly decorated after a recent overall of the complex, the aircon is free also safe key the pool is a nice size and there plenty of sun beds the beach for swimming is busy just up the road we’re there is plenty of of restaurants

Just spent the week there with my wife and stepdaughter and it was superb, so friendly and clean modernised rooms with cooking facilities if you needed to cook which we didn’t as the pool bar food was excellent, the breakfast was ok the usual when abroad. There are plenty of sunbeds around a beautiful pool, The staff was lovely and friendly from the manager Eranior which I could never pronounce her name to the other reception staff and friendly cleaners that cleaned your rooms every day with clean towels when needed, special mention to the pool bar staff Zino and Johanna they were fabulous so friendly, The world needs more Johanna’s in them, if I ever go back to Crete there’s only one place I would go. Just back from a week at these apartments. As previously stated the area is very quiet and relaxing with a friendly atmosphere and just a short walk to the beaches. Positives and negatives: bar staff, Joanna and Zinon are super friendly but the drinks don’t appear to have any alcohol in them, the wine is shocking and don’t waste your money on the cocktails. The apartments are adequate but there is only a/c in the bedroom so unbearable for anyone sleeping on the sofa beds in the sitting room. Wi-Fi is terrible so you’ll need a data package if you need internet. The pool didn’t look clean and we never saw anyone clean it. Nearby there are a handful of tavernas but they cater more for tourists, so not authentic Greek food. Breakfast was plentiful with a reasonable choice which was constantly replenished. All of the above comments were also reiterated by other guests. Would we stay again, probably not.
