GRECOTEL Meli Palace

After reading reviews I booked this hotel and had high expectations, but coming home more sore and tired than when I left is not good. I do suffer with painful joints and chose this hotel because it looked comfy. I expected dated as all reviews mentioned this. I did not expect no home comforts. The pictures of the room show the third bed made up as a settee with cushions. However no cushions and only 3 pillows. I asked for the 2 singles to be made up as a double and for an extra pillow. They did put a topper on but no extra pillow. The balcony seat was also uncomfortable and unusually easily accessible from next door balcony. The balcony lock was broken but my partner fixed that. The room leads out onto an uncovered walk way which lets the rain into the room and caused me to slip over in the night not expecting a puddle in the room. There are no nets on the windows and all pool side are over looked. We also went down to dinner wet twice as you can not avoid the rain. We were woken several times in the night with trolleys being wheeled around it sounded like they had square wheels. There was also something flapping and banging on the roof above us. The reception staff were friendly as were the dining room staff. The dining room was the only comfortable place in he hotel. The food was fresh and nicely cooked. There was one lady bar staff dressed in black that was friendly the others could barely crack a smile including the 2 girls in the snack bar. It never felt welcoming getting a drink.The lobby seats are again uncomfortable with no cushions which are shown in pictures(for a reason!). The chairs outside are in darkness and uncovered so on rainy evenings it was mayhem. We all had to drag the wet chairs into the lobby for somewhere to sit. I asked reception if the dining area could be opened for sitting but the lady said this was not possible. The sun loungers by the pool were comfy the ones by the beach are all a little saggy so you can feel the bars. The grounds and the beach are lovely we walked to potomas beach and sissi along the front a bit rocky in parts but doable even for me! Swimming in the sea was lovely beach shoes are a necessity and they sell them in the shop. There are a lot of children in the hotel and it seemed well placed for them. I'm trying to work out how the hotel gets so many rave reviews. The guests are predominantly German, not sure whether they get better treatment at the bar but it didn't seem that way, guests were mostly younger when comfort is not such a high priority. This was not a cheap holiday so I feel hard done by. Hence the tales of woe!

The rooms are a bit outdated, but the staff is very friendly and helpful. The private island helps to minimize the waves in the bay. Beach is sandy with some stones. Terrain around hotel is nice and quiet. Nearest village is 2km away, so expect some walking.

Awesome, very isolated amd close to historical place.

I adore Greece, but the hotel was terrible—it really spoiled the whole vacation experience. There is absolutely nothing to do during bad weather; there are no provisions for it at all. There is no Wi-Fi in the rooms, and the signal in the lobby is weak. The sofas in the lobby are incredibly uncomfortable, and the playground could certainly be larger and better designed. There are no blankets in the rooms—you’re only provided with a sheet to cover yourself.

We stayed at this hotel as a family with our one-year-old baby and absolutely loved it! ❤️ We really appreciated the intimate atmosphere, the beautiful secluded bay where you can enjoy peaceful beach days, the lovely beach, and the great playground for kids. The food selection was varied, with plenty of options to choose from for our little one, who is already eating regular food. Most of all, the staff were absolutely amazing! They were incredibly helpful and accommodating with all our needs as a family with a small child, including check-in, check-out, and room arrangements. They really made our stay stress-free and enjoyable. Highly recommended for families looking for a relaxing, hassle-free holiday with a little one! 🌴
