We booked and paid for an upgrade to sea view with French balcony, which the website describes as featuring "their own private balcony for a truly serene stay, guaranteed to lift your spirits". It turns out that these rooms feature a safety rail with no balcony to either step put onto or sit on overlooking the busy road at the front of the hotel. Avoid rooms on the second floor, directly above reception. We immediately brought our disappointment to the attention of reception, explaining we had paid for an upgrade. They advised we had the room we had paid for. They said they would see if another room might be available and if it was they would "discuss further extra payment". Firstly, extra payment when we had already paid for an upgrade??? Secondly, upon leaving at the end of the week we were still waiting for the follow up from the reception staff and customer service manager, Natasha and Maria. Terrible customer service for a five star hotel, especially considering their immediate comment about potentially making a further upgrade payment. The website is misleading. Beware their "upgrades". The room itself is poorly designed. The shower is open into the room with only shaded glass, no door. Being on the second floor at the front of the hotel meant the blinds had to be closed virtually all the time as pedestrians can see into the room from the street. The toilet is separate but there is no hand basin, only in the main room. The wardrobe features shelves but no hanging rails. The hanging rails are on racking which looks nice but is not functional. If you have long dresses there is nowhere to hang them. Also on the racking is the kettle and coffee maker but there's no separation between these and hanging clothes, ie no protection from steam. There is little storage for toiletries or cosmetics unless you want to hide them away in a drawer or shelf in the wardrobe. The hotel features no stairs for guests to use, only emergency exit stairs, this means taking a lift between all floors, at all times. There are not enough sunbeds for all guests, either around the pool or the concrete deck at the beach so securing a bed is a bit of a lottery. Am guessing the hotel expects guests with their own plunge pools to sunbathe at their rooms. Breakfast food was good, albeit with no variety. Weirdly you had to ask for teaspoons, and the staff always disappeared to find them. A minor thing but not expected in a five star hotel, surely tables should be laid correctly. On top of that the breakfast staff were in general miserable. There were some positives. The view from the swimming pools is fantastic and the location of the hotel was perfect, within a ten minute, easy stroll into the town which is lovely and has some amazing tavernas. All in all we were disappointed. We don't feel this hotel should be rated as five star as the customer service, room design and availability of sunbeds, is all definitely under par. Definitely not good value for money, or indeed worth the money paid.

Stay away from Niko if you prefer a relaxing vacation. Why? We were given a room located right above the restaurant speaker… mind you- this music starts at 7 am. The receptionist did nothing when we requested a solution! No turning down the music and no moving! The pool at the rooftop is 30 cm deep… so not really a pool. The hotel does not have anything near enough chairs- the 3 star chair hunt is just as bad at this “5 star hotel”… Overall- not worth the money! The service is the worst part… this is what should be extraordinary at a 5 star hotel. Getting something better for the same amount of money is possible.
