Zeus Ydoria Resort

We came here at the end of September, after a very long transfer and arriving at the hotel we were greeted with some hot food which we found nice. We stayed on the second floor, the room was basic and needed a lick of paint and maybe something on the walls to brighten it up a little. One thing I didn’t like, only 1 mirror in the room and this was in the bathroom, so I was unable to get ready when my partner was using the shower, a floor length mirror in the room would be ideal. We also had no storage for cases or a chair to sit down, the rooms aren’t very soundproof and you can hear everything going on around you when you’re trying to sleep. The room and entire hotel was clean, and there were always plenty of sunbeds (I don’t know if this is because the weather was poor). The food was good with plenty of options and being replenished all the time. There are a few shops and restaurants nearby, however not much to do in the vicinity unless you got on the bus or a taxi to rethymno which I do advise doing as it’s a beautiful place. Bar staff very friendly and remember drink orders after a couple of times going up. We had rather bad weather during our stay, and there’s not much to do when the weather is rainy, I feel like the hotel would benefit from an indoor area with a bar so you could sit inside of an evening. Entertainment was poor and very repetitive and didn’t start until 10pm which we thought was a bit late for it to just be starting. Overall the hotel is nice but could be improved massively, we wouldn’t stay here again.

Rooms were ok, but it was noisy at night, despite not much going on in the evenings.. Breakfast good. Snack bar for lunch was served by the most miserable man on the planet. The gyros were nice if you could get them but he disappeared each time you wanted serving and most other hot food ran out too. There were some nice dishes at dinner, which was very crowded when we were there On a plus, there were usually beds available by the pool, which was well kept and nice, but I guess we were unlucky with the weather at the end of September too, so I wouldn't recommend coming here at this time of year.

My wife and I chose Hotel Ydoria as a special gift to ourselves for our wedding anniversary, and it turned out to be an excellent decision. A lovely welcome was waiting for us in our spacious suite with a private pool, and the entire stay had a wonderfully peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. The hotel is located just a few kilometres from the beautiful historic town of Rethymno, which is easily accessible by bus directly from the hotel or by taxi. I would definitely recommend visiting, especially in the evening, when the historic streets, harbour and small restaurants have an unforgettable atmosphere. There are also several shops and restaurants near the hotel, although you probably will not need them if you are staying on an all-inclusive basis. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were, in a word, exceptional. Every day, there was an extensive selection of dishes, vegetables, fruit and incredibly delicious desserts. Chilled soft drinks, coffee, tea and beer were available throughout the day, as were genuinely good wine and cocktails. I would also like to say hello to Giorgos, the ever-smiling bartender who prepared our drinks throughout the week and always wished us “na zdraví” – “cheers” in Czech :). The entire modern hotel complex is very clean, with cleaning taking place continuously throughout the day. The rooms are cleaned daily, and towels are replaced whenever you leave them on the floor. Hotel Wi-Fi is available throughout the complex, including in the rooms. There are seven swimming pools in total, one of which is an indoor pool next to the gym. The sandy beach is approximately 200 metres from the hotel. Sun loungers and parasols are available to rent, but we preferred to walk a little farther to a quieter stretch of beach with no parasols and hardly any people. The hotel staff were extremely helpful, friendly and always smiling. They also did their best to accommodate our additional small requests. There were quite a few families with young children staying at the hotel during our visit, and the hotel is very well equipped for them. As that stage of life is already behind us, we appreciated having a room in a quieter part of the complex, as well as our private pool. We spent a wonderful week here and would return without hesitation – and that is the best recommendation we can give.

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Everything was clean, comfortable, and well organised, which made our holiday even more relaxing. The staff were lovely, always polite and ready to help whenever we needed anything. Their friendly attitude made us feel welcome throughout our stay. We were also very happy with the food. The meals were tasty, fresh, and of good quality, with plenty of variety to choose from. It was clear that a lot of care went into the preparation. Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely recommend this hotel. We would be happy to come back again!

We stayed 28th Aug - 4th Sep. Hotel is in a good location, some shops, beaches, restaurants locally. The food was really good for an all inclusive, plenty of seafood and meat choices. The souvlaki at the pool bar was particularly good for lunch and meant you didn’t feel like you were in and out of the same dining area 3 times per day. Whilst the staff aren’t miserable, none of the reception or restaurant staff are particularly cheery. The young ladies on the animation team are an asset and work really hard. My son’s favourite staff member was the lifeguard George. He was great fun, but also firm with safety and was always on the ball. Couple of small gripes that could be easily remedied; The room layouts are quite strange. The children are in the main room with the kettle, main door and balcony. Mine are old enough for that not to be a worry but younger kids could be a problem. The glasses are tiny. I would say they only hold 1/3 of a pint (1/2 at a push) so we spent longer than needed queuing at the bar! They also only had 1 choice of beer on draught, and a bottle of corona was 6 euros (which was the only other beer they stocked) Some outside entertainment wouldn’t go a miss. Again, the animation team make a lot of effort with the kids, but some more authentic entertainment for the adults would be good. The karaoke was diabolical although that could be just our tastes. I wouldn’t return purely as I don’t like to visit the same place twice, however I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the hotel either. Lake kournas is a must! We went on a trip with a local company to the hotel and then rented a car and returned for the full day.
