Mitsis Alexander the Great

Having stayed at many Mitsis hotels over the years, we were excited to visit the fairly newly acquired Canvas by Mitsis Alexander the Great—and it certainly didn’t disappoint. The beach refurbishment is absolutely stunning, and there’s no doubt that, as the polished and professional Mitsis brand continues its investment and upgrades, this hotel has the potential to stand alongside the very best in the collection. Even now, it feels like a hidden gem, boasting one of the most beautiful locations with its golden sandy beach, crystal-clear sea, and magnificent pine trees. A very special thank you to Despoina, the Reservations Manager. Without her kindness, help, and support, this holiday simply would not have been possible. It was a real pleasure to meet her in person and finally have the opportunity to thank her. If you’re in two minds about booking, take that leap of faith. You’ll discover genuine Greek hospitality, an idyllic setting, and the quality and reassurance that come with the trusted Mitsis brand. The location and the beach are very good. The rooms are small but it’s no problem. The food is not good and there is no variety. Cleanliness is good.

I have very mixed feelings about my stay. The hotel was clean and well maintained. The beach is amazing. However, there aren’t enough beach beds for all the guests and we had to stay on a coffee chair (regular chair) or leave our towels on the sand! ( without a shade). We went in July and on the beach to get a drink you had to wait in linw for 30mins! In the sun! They opened a second bar just the last day of our stay which is ridiculous giving the fact that it was in the middle of the season. There were no toilets other than the chemical portable toilets until the last day too. ( which is unacceptable for a 4 star resort) The path to the beach has a very vertical incline. There were golf. Cars to transport ppl but they only had 3 seats for a ride. In other words you can wait for good 45 mins to get back up to the hotel in peak hours. The food - if you want to eat bbq, or seafood you are in the wrong place. The meat options are chicken, pork (not every day) and fish. And they are all stewed. If you want to eat bbq style or shrimp or calamari - you can’t. You wait in a single line for 30 mins to get food because there are only single trays of a single dish and you get it in one place only. Typical meal is - one tray of stew with meat, one vegetable stew, maybe fish stew as well. The rest is coocked rice, pasta and broccoli. That’s every day. The salad station was ok. But if you’re a man and you eat more meat than vegetables or pasta you’re going to be hungry :).

Overall, we had a pleasant stay and would recommend this hotel because its situated on the most beautiful beach. The biggest highlight is the location. The surrounding nature is stunning, and the beach is AMAZING, undoubtedly one of the most beautiful on the Greek mainland. The sea is crystal clear, shallow for a long distance, and ideal for children. The staff was always friendly, polite, and helpful. Parking is guarded, only for hotel guests. We also really appreciated how responsive the management was. After completing the guest survey on our third day and suggesting that room cleaning be finished earlier for families with children, the housekeeping schedule was adjusted immediately. We understand that the hotel is due for renovation, and the rooms would certainly benefit from it. We would also suggest installing mosquito screens on the windows and balcony doors, and waterproof mattress protectors under the sheets would be another worthwhile improvement. Good Wifi available only in loby, hotel rooms have very poor signal. The walk down to the beach is quite steep. The golf carts are helpful when available, but the planned elevator will hopefully provide a much better long-term solution. In our opinion, the beach has fantastic new furniture, still it missed a proper beach bar. During the first few days, only bottled and canned drinks were available, with no fresh coffee, cocktails, or freshly prepared beverages. Later, a small beach bar opened, but it had to serve the entire beach, resulting in long queues. In addition, bottled water was no longer available, with only tap water being served. Unfortunately, the food is the hotel's weakest point. While the selection appears reasonable on paper, offering meat, fish, pasta, vegetables, and salads, the quality of preparation falls well short of expectations. Some dishes were bland, others excessively seasoned, and overall the menu lacked both variety and consistency. This was the first hotel in many years where we regularly left meals still hungry and at the same time nauseous. Although the hotel states that the restaurant follows a weekly menu with great variety and that some dishes, such as pasta and potatoes, are always available because they are popular with guests, that theory is not same in practice, in our experience. At every lunch and dinner, the same reappeared: heavily over-seasoned spaghetti Bolognese, bland rice, chicken that was often either undercooked or simply boiled without any flavor, and French fries that were frequently undercooked. The repeated availability of the same basic tasteless dishes did not translate into meaningful variety. The hotel also mentions that guests can request alternative meals to accommodate dietary preferences. However, our concerns were not related to dietary restrictions but to the quality, preparation, and consistency of the food served as part of the standard buffet. Guests should not need to request special meals simply to enjoy well-prepared, flavorful food that meets the expectations of a hotel in this category. Another drawback is the buffet layout. Having only one serving line for the main dishes leads to long queues during busy meal times, which could easily be improved. We have been visiting Greece for more than 15 years and have stayed in many 3-, 4-, and 5-star hotels. In our experience, the variety of food offered is often very similar; the real difference is in the quality of preparation and flavor. Improving this aspect, together with the planned renovations and a beach bars with bottled water, would allow this hotel to reach its full potential, as it is situated on this beautiful beach.

I stayed at this hotel in June 2026, and we had a wonderful time with my mom. The hotel territory is beautiful and very well maintained. The surrounding nature is stunning, and the sea is extremely clean. The beach has a Blue Flag, which is very reassuring. The sunbeds were new, and everything was spotless and well organized. We chose the all-inclusive option, which made our stay even more comfortable and stress-free. What is especially important to mention is that the staff is extremely kind, helpful, and professional. Special thanks to the team, especially Zouriko and Odysseas, for their outstanding hospitality. Also, special thanks to the Armenian lady Alvina at the reception, who was very kind and welcoming. Overall, we had a fantastic stay, and I would gladly return again.
