Kos Palace

When we arrived late at night to Kos Palace hotel it was truly a palace. The main lobby had some fantastic soft furnishings and had a lovely contemporary feel. We had a lovely late supper of the most delicious Greek dishes before checking in and being shown to our room as it was late and we were tired and hungry. The staff were welcoming and friendly. The room was well appointed, although I believe it was ready for an upgrade as some other rooms have been, but the bed was extremely comfortable and long for my 6'3 height. The shower over bath could be a little taller to handle my 6ft3 but it was easy enough to work around. Fantastic pressure and loads of hot water all holiday. The rooms were cleaned daily by the wonderful maids, always happy and smiling. The next day gave us a chance to see the hotel in daylight for the first time. The food at breakfast was delicious, although some of the warm goods could have been a little hotter. The fresh bread, the freshly made pancakes, local Greek yoghurt and honey, sausage, It was all lovely. The evening meals were fantastic. Different dishes to cater for all tastes. Vegetarian options. Signature dishes every night. It was all lovely. Never had a bad meal. The staff were fantastic and smiling, always helpful even though it was the end of season. The pool was great with lovely deep cushioned loungers and was so close to the beach, where there were more sunbeds, I'd get up from the pool walk across the road for a dip in the crystal clear sea and back. Can't fault it. They even had a ginger cat to check on things. Tigaki town is a casual 35min walk along the beach, there's a Supermarket and car hire 5mins along, it's a great location. Overall it was a great hotel, so good we're already booked to go back next year.

As we all know the Greeks are well known for their kindness and hospitality, well the staff at Kos Palace were no different, in fact they made our holiday complete. Nothing was too much trouble, from sourcing a wheel chair for me when I was having great difficulty walking, to providing a kettle for my morning cuppa. Every member of staff smiled and they were an absolute pleasure. The hotel itself is very comfortable, modern and so very clean. Breakfast (the hot stuff) could have been hotter but with so many people to cater for that's a big ask, there was a great choice, same for evening meals, on our last night the chef created a Chinese selection which was very good indeed. The only reason I haven't given 5 stars is because our room was just above the dustbins, which were regularly emptied at 3 am each morning. After saying that we did have a wonderful view of the mountains and the sea, so double bubble, we loved it.

A very clean cozy hotel within walking distance to the harbor and the city center. Hotel rooms are clean and some of them overlook the seafront. Stuff is very polite and friendly and their breakfast is very good quality as well.

Only reason it doesn't get full marks is just a few elements that got in the way of it being great. The wifi was a bit on/off. This is not a major issue but at times a little irritating. Likewise the aircon. Pool great. Martha in the side bar/snack bar was lovely and will happily help with planning a trip round the island. Food decent for breakfast and dinner. Room ok - functional. Shower shocking - a shower head in the middle of the bath put at about 5' up on the wall! Soaked the whole bathroom. No idea how to get into the safe so didn't bother. Room cleaned everyday if you put the thing on the door. We had a ground floor room - wouldn't recommend this as no view. We were on the side so looked out at rough ground. This also meant a lot of largeish insects that aren't good to look at! It didn't get the sun at all either so this was a bit disappointing. Bar in the evening was fine with good staff. Slightly higher prices but you kind of expect that. Not nearly enough sun beds - if you don't get one you have to pay for one of the fancy ones. Beach across the road is a slither - sufficient but not a deep beach - single line of sunbeds which again you have to pay for. Very seaweedy too - unlike further along towards the town. Not golden sand here either - again that comes along the coast. It was fine though if you just want a taste of beach. Need cash for the towel hire and they're not great so I would recommend taking your own. I'd recommend the hotel but be aware of the above.

Overall we had a wonderful holiday. The hotel was good. The pool area was excellent. There was a small shop/takeaway close by where you could get cold drinks and hot and cold meals. The beach was small but really pretty. The one down side for my friend and I, both in our early eighties, was the distance from Tgaki town. We had booked bed and breakfast as we enjoy going out for dinner in the evening. It was 2kms from the hotel which we were very happy to walk but not at night as it was busy with traffic, buses, cars, beach buggies and bicycles. We had to pay 10 euros each way to get to town. Tgaki town was lively with lovely restaurants. It was a really good holiday and Kos is lovely.
