We have just returned from Eden Roc after our second visit, our first being four years ago. These are our thoughts: Prior to our arrival I emailed Guest Relations asking if they could provide a transfer from the airport, I was quoted 150 euros return for this which is more than double the usual return taxi transfer - we paid 60 euros return for a service that must have been almost identical. I also emailed advising them that it was our anniversary they day following our arrival and asking if it was possible to make a restaurant reservation for that evening, I did not receive a response, so not a particularly good start. We arrived late afternoon and there was no one around to help with our luggage and whilst there was a table in the reception area with sparkling wine and juice, no one offered it or told us to help ourselves - we did as we remembered this from our previous visit. We had booked a sea view room but were informed that there wasn't one available until the following day, meaning we couldn't unpack immediately, we didn't particularly want a sea view, it was just what had been offered in the deal we booked so we took the inland view room offered and declined to change rooms later, had that been important to us though, it would have been an issue, especially since our room had been booked since January. The room and bathroom were fine, spotlessly clean on our arrival, however, some sand which had been on our shoes and was on the floor on the second day was not cleaned up. One of the twin beds had been made up with a sheet which was far too small for the bed and meant that my feet were touching the mattress protector - I doubt this is changed after each room use, so it made me feel as though I was sleeping on someone else's bedding. I did see the cleaner the following day and she changed it immediately, but this should not happen in any hotel. Likewise, one day we had an extra bath towel and no bath mat, when I asked the cleaner she said they had no bath mats so she left an extra towel instead - a hotel of this size and rating should not be running out of things like this. The towels are also in need of replacing, they are very grey and threadbare in places. Immediately after our check in we went to Guest Relations to ask them to book our a la carte restaurants which she did without any problem, we assumed having read other reviews that this was because there were only two of us and we like to eat at 8.30pm or later, however, in every restaurant there were several empty tables each time we visited. Quite possibly these were because people had changed their minds and not bothered to cancel, but several were not even set as though no one was expected to use them - considering how hard it is to make a reservation, this give the impression that they do not want people to use the a la carte restaurants. We ended up only eating in three restaurants during our 6 night stay as when we had seen the menu for the Mediterranean, we decided to cancel and eat in the buffet, on our previous visit we remember it being one of the best , but this new menu idea is very limiting and not for us. We enjoyed the food in the Teppanyaki, however, it was extremely rushed and we missed one course out, the impression we got was that the staff wanted us in and out as quickly as possible so they could clear away. We particularly liked the Peruvian which was excellent and something a bit different, the Italian was also good but not really anything special. The thing we did notice this visit compared to last time was the lack of wine list in the a la carte restaurants, the house wine is fine but it was nice to be able to choose something else, we asked and were just given a different wine of the waiter's choosing. The main buffet restaurant was OK for breakfast, there was always a hunt for spoons and some of the pastries were very dry, but otherwise fine. Lunch was also OK, the salad bar was the highlight both then and at dinner, the dessert selection at both was quite poor - the same bland chocolate mousse cake every day. The bread appeared to be fresh at breakfast but then left all day - by the evening it was very dry and stale. We like to eat late but when eating in the buffet we were mindful of the fact that it closed at 9.30pm and so were always there by 8.30pm, however , on more than one occasion we noticed that whole areas of the restaurant were being cleared away any time after 9.00pm which in our view is not acceptable when they are supposed to be open until 9.30pm Probably the thing which really brings the hotel down is no waiter service for drinks, as other reviews have said, sometimes the queues were of up to 10 people waiting and only one person serving, if some wanted cocktails it was quite a long wait. Also the glasses piled up on the tables if you didn't return them yourself as there only seemed to be anyone collecting glasses in the evening at the main bar. The best and biggest improvement is the area around the main pool, we easily managed to get sunbeds around both pools and on the beach, although, as other people have mentioned the sunbeds on the beach are extremely close together and the beach itself is not particularly nice, more grit than sand. Although the entertainment staff were around and always said hello as they walked past us, we counted it as a plus that they weren't any more intrusive as we prefer a quiet holiday and apart from some background music after dinner in a bar or lounge the entertainment programme doesn't really interest us. As many other people have said, the staff generally work very hard and are very pleasant, there just aren't enough of them, we booked the stay in January when we spotted a good deal and we cannot say for what we paid it wasn't value for money, but we feel it is 3.5* masquerading as a 5*. So many people say the same thing, especially about needing more staff and a waiter service for drinks but the management does not appear to take any notice, what is interesting about reading the many reviews is that the only ones replied to by the hotel are the ones saying everything was wonderful and giving no criticism constructive or otherwise. We wouldn't stay here again.
Just spent a week at Eden roc in the pool view bungalows. Was honestly the best week we could’ve wished for. We had excellent service by Nikos the entire week. From remembering our order, bringing us a top up when we had an empty glass to a lovely breakfast and lunch service. He really made our holiday the best time. Another standout was Alexandre in the animation team!! What a lovely guy! Always smiley and chatty and really trying to get everyone involved! He’s a true credit to your team and exactly what a host should be! He really put the guest experience at the front of everything. We ate in the buffet, Greek, Italian and Peruvian! The stand out was the Peruvian by a long way! Was worried it would be too adventurous for us but no it was exceptional couldn’t recommend enough!! The reception team, Rialene, Tsampicos and Maria, were all really lovely as well! They catered for every question, taxi request or anything else. The location of the hotel is brilliant only a few minutes away from the old town and the water park. Incredible service all round couldn’t recommend enough. Would definitely recommend booking the pool view bungalow because of the lounge 800 that comes with it! I think we’d have felt a bit differently if we were in the main hotel area without the service of Nikos and his fabulous team
Lounge 800 as long as you get the sunny side very good, Nikos and his staff run a very tight ship and will give you a 5 star experience if you want it, Nicos super hard working and such a nice guy always smiling and makes you feel so comfortable. All other staff at the resort are very nice and helpful. Pizza at Italian very good. Hot dog in the day was nice too .
We have been 6 times now to this hotel each time better than the last. We have stayed in the main building and the bungalows ,all accommodation there are excellent. The pool areas have recently had an upgrade which looks fantastic,7 restaurants on site serving food (which is great)basically 24/7. Finally all the staff are amazing, special mention to Tsambikos of Guest Relations who went above and beyond to make sure our stay was brilliant.
Just returned from our fifth holiday at Eden Roc. We enjoyed our holiday but we must reveal that there has been some slippage in certain areas. Previously we rated five stars but now only four. Staff service was superb in all areas as always. The food in the main buffet, Basilico and Fish restaurant also excellent as on previous visits. Other regular visitors also reported changes - especially on entertainment in the evening not up to previous high standard. Amateurish and far too loud on most nights. Lunchtime groups better but some far too loud. The main pool has been updated with lots more sunbeds and loungers rather than a "lengths pool" Our room (executive suite) was only one available when we booked - lots of niggles around lighting, terrible TV reception, no shaving mirror, and shortage of power outlets in correct locations. Eden type rooms and standard rooms are much better value. Holiday 16 Sept to 30 Sept. Very surprised at large number of school age children some of whom were extremely unruly causing disruption in restaurants and bars for other guests. Currently reviewing our booking for next June.
