Nice hotel and generally a good holiday. We stayed all inc and food was as we had expected. Having said that the lunchtime pizza oven and gyros were an absolute winner, we had one or other for every lunch. Despina cooking the gyros was a total Star. Few things need addressing are some sun beds have had it and are uncomfortable or collapse as they are knackered. We stayed in block 100 and room was nice and big but had no shelves at all in wardrobe and balcony had outside air con unit on there so was noisy. Still say it was pretty decent holiday overall.

I don't usually write reviews, but I wanted to write an honest review of my stay at the as I wish I had listened to some of the reviews I read before booking. I felt I wanted to share my experience at the Lydia Maris Hotel, particularly as I think expectations are important when booking this property. Firstly, and perhaps most importantly, this hotel is nowhere near 5-star quality in my opinion. If, like me, you book expecting a 5-star experience, I think you are likely to be disappointed. However, if I had booked this as a 3-star hotel, I probably would have been perfectly happy with my stay. The hotel is absolutely fine — just don't expect luxury. I stayed in a family suite, which was very spacious and generally clean. Unfortunately, there was mould on the wall in one of the rooms, which was disappointing. The balcony was on the ground floor underneath a tree, meaning that sitting outside often resulted in bits from the tree falling onto you. Not exactly ideal for relaxing on the balcony. The air conditioning was extremely loud — more like a washing machine than an air-conditioning unit! Without it, the room became very hot, but having it running made sleeping difficult. I could also hear water pipes and other noises during the night, so unfortunately I didn't have the best night's sleep during my stay. I didn't find the staff to be particularly warm or welcoming, and there didn't seem to be much effort made to engage with guests. I don't mind that the staff didn't talk to me much — I'm quite happy to be left alone! — but I would have appreciated a friendlier and warmer level of service. At times, it felt like there wasn't much effort made to make guests feel particularly welcomed. The only staff member that made an effort was Kiki, who was lovely and interacted with all guests. As I was travelling solo, dining was probably the most difficult part. During my seven-night stay, I was offered a drink only twice at evening meals and would usually be ignored, which I wouldn't be too fussed about if I hadn't watched other tables being offered drinks upon arrival every evening, so I had to take my own drink with me. I also found that if I left my table, it would be cleared within seconds, even when I hadn't finished. Eventually, I had to start taking my belongings with me whenever I left the table so that I could indicate that I was returning. There seemed to be staff hovering around tables waiting to clear them, even when the restaurant wasn't particularly busy. The entertainment was very basic. The entertainment team appeared to be making an effort, but didn't really provide much in the way of entertainment. It was clear that the budget for this area was fairly modest. I'm not much of a foodie, so I don't feel it's fair to give a detailed opinion on the quality of food. There was certainly a good variety of options, although the main restaurant could feel a little like feeding time at the zoo there was no structure or control just everybody everywhere. The gyros and pizza outlets were a nice addition, though, and were particularly convenient during the day. The hotel is just a short walk to the beach, which was lovely, and offers a few different activities there. There isn't a huge amount to do immediately around the hotel. If you're looking for somewhere to relax, switch off and spend most of your time around the hotel or beach, then the location could work very well but if you're after somewhere lively and lots to do it isn't ideal. I only spent time around the pool once for a few hours during my stay, so I don't have much feedback. The pool area itself was clean and well maintained. Overall, I did have a nice holiday, and I don't want this review to suggest otherwise. My main issue was simply the expectation created by the hotel's 5-star rating and the pictures online. Had I arrived expecting a 3-star hotel, I think my perception would have been very different and I would probably have rated the experience much more positively. So my advice would be: manage your expectations. If you're looking for a genuine 5-star experience, I would look elsewhere, I have stayed in 5* hotels in Rhodes before and there is certainly much better, but if you're looking for a fairly basic, spacious hotel in a good location to relax and aren't expecting luxury, you may find it perfectly adequate.
