Gloria Maris Hotel Suites & Villas

Absolutely disgraceful — nothing like the room we booked AVOID THIS HOTEL Our experience at Gloria Maris was absolutely disgraceful, especially as this was supposed to be our honeymoon. We checked in at around 11:00am on Wednesday and were so shocked and disappointed by the condition of the hotel and room that we checked straight back out at around 1:00pm the same afternoon and had to find and move to another hotel. Even before reaching the room, we were extremely disappointed. The lobby was a mess, and getting to our room involved walking up two flights of stairs, past the pool, down a rocky and uneven set of stairs, and across decking that felt unsafe. This was not the arrival or experience we expected for our honeymoon. Then we finally reached the room, which smelt strongly of mould and damp and was absolutely disgusting. It was nothing like the room we believed we had booked online. The final photograph shown in the booking pictures was the room we expected to receive, but the room we were actually given looked completely different. There is absolutely no way we would describe it as a luxury suite. The problems didn’t stop there. The sink was coming away from the wall, the shower was in a disgusting condition, and the bed was advertised as a queen-size bed but was only a double. The sheets and overall cleanliness were also unacceptable. We had no choice but to leave within just two hours of checking in and pay to stay somewhere else. Having travelled for our honeymoon and expecting the accommodation shown in the photographs, this was incredibly disappointing and completely ruined what should have been a special start to our trip. We would avoid this hotel at all costs based on our experience. We have never checked into a hotel and had to check straight back out within two hours before. Absolutely unacceptable.

We absolutely loved this hotel, the staff were so friendly and welcoming, the rooms and views stunning, we felt we had found paradise and will definitely be returning. Good location, we walked down the short slope to the beach, clear warm water with small sandy beach. We had very good breakfasts, great selection and all fresh, something for everyone. We ate in the restaurant one evening and it was delicious, moussaka and stifado, however, we also walked the 25 minutes walk around to the Laganas Bay and ate in the restaurants there and walked to Cameo Island across the bridge.

If you love cats don’t go, they forbid feeding of cats on their property. I personally love to feed and stroke the cats when on holiday in Greece so will now not return here for that reason. Cats in Greece have a hard enough life without cruel hotel owners making their life more difficult.
