Paradisus by Melia Fuerteventura

We arrived on 26th October 2026 at the hotel. We were greeted at the main doors and our cases were taken from us and we were shown to the reserve area check-in which was excellent. Everything was explained to us locations of restaurants etc. we were allocated room 839 on the 8th floor. Our cases were waiting for us when we went to our room. The room was spacious and lovely and clean. When we pulled the curtain back the view was fantastic looking out over the lagoon and ocean and main pool. The food now we are not fussy eaters but there were plenty of places to eat and you can book into the different restaurants via the hotel app. We tried all of them during our stay and all were superb. The only one we didn’t try was lemon fish as we both don’t like sushi. We went to the reserve pool every day the beds were very comfy and you didn’t really need to get up early to get a bed as there were plenty to choose from. The pool was very clean and heated so no harsh shock when jumping in the pool. There is also the reserve pool bar which you can order drinks via the app if you are really lazy or you can just go up there and speak to the lovely bar staff who will happily make you any drink you like. The staff are so helpful. I don’t normally do this but Julio in the reserve breakfast area is lovely and sooo helpful also Lucas part of the management team was so helpful and remembered us though the week asking how our stay was progressing. Daniella a member of the concierge staff always took an interest in our stay. All staff from the cleaning staff through to the maintenance staff bar and serving staff were lovely helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The beach is lovely but on a couple of occasions we had to walk through knee deep water from the lagoon to get to the beach which isn’t a problem as it’s all sand. Just one recommendation from me would be bring some anti bite cream as there are a-few mozzi’s about in the evening. All in all I would highly recommend this hotel and will be returning in the very near future.

Paradisus by Meliá Fuerteventura – A Good Holiday, but Plenty of Room for Improvement We have just returned from a holiday at the Paradisus in Fuerteventura, and overall, we had an enjoyable stay. The hotel has a lot of potential, but there are several areas that really need improving, especially considering the price you pay for a premium all-inclusive holiday. Sunbeds and Pool Areas One of the biggest frustrations was the lack of sunbeds, particularly around the children’s pool. For a hotel of this size and operated by such a large company, surely purchasing additional sun loungers should be a relatively simple and inexpensive improvement. We have previously stayed at the Meliá hotel in Tenerife, and I have to say the children’s pool area there is much better designed. It is more secluded and separated from the deeper pools, allowing parents to relax while their children play. Unfortunately, the layout in Fuerteventura doesn’t offer the same peace of mind. Bar Service – A Major Disappointment Another significant issue was the bar service. Getting a drink was often unnecessarily difficult, with queues sometimes lasting 15–20 minutes. When you’re paying a considerable amount for an all-inclusive holiday, you really shouldn’t have to spend so much time queuing for drinks. I strongly believe the hotel should introduce sun lounger drinks service around the main pools. It would make an enormous difference to the overall guest experience. The situation at the children’s pool bar was particularly disappointing. On one occasion, there was just one lady trying to serve both the Reserve area and the children’s pool bar. Guests were becoming increasingly frustrated, and understandably, the poor member of staff appeared extremely stressed. This wasn’t her fault; it was clearly a staffing issue that management needs to address. Rooms and Cleanliness The bedrooms were generally comfortable and acceptable, although we did encounter quite a few mosquitoes and the occasional cockroach, which was surprising and not particularly pleasant. I appreciate that insects can be an issue in the Canary Islands, but it is still something the hotel should try to manage better. Food and Restaurants Breakfast was reasonably good, but unfortunately, we found the evening buffet rather repetitive. Several dishes lacked flavour, and there wasn’t enough variety to keep things interesting throughout the holiday. One particularly unpleasant experience involved a squid dish served in black ink sauce. When eating it, I discovered that one of the pieces of squid hadn’t been properly cleaned and was quite dirty inside. Because of the dark sauce, it was almost impossible to notice beforehand. This was very off-putting and raised concerns about the care being taken with food preparation. For a hotel of this standard, I would expect much better attention to detail. Communication and Customer Service Another area requiring improvement is communication. We found very few staff members who could speak English, which made it difficult to raise concerns or explain problems. When we did manage to highlight issues, the response often seemed to be, “It’s our first year of opening.” While I completely understand that a newly opened hotel will experience some teething problems, I don’t think that is a sufficient explanation when guests are paying premium prices. The hotel is charging full rates, so guests should reasonably expect the facilities and service to reflect that. The Positives On a more positive note, the beach and surrounding area are absolutely lovely. We thoroughly enjoyed spending time on the beach, and it was definitely one of the highlights of our holiday. Despite the issues mentioned, we did have a good holiday, and I genuinely believe the hotel has the potential to become an excellent resort. Hopefully, management will listen to guest feedback and make the necessary improvements over the coming year. Overall Verdict Paradisus Fuerteventura is a reasonably good hotel in a beautiful location, but at present, the service and facilities don’t quite match the premium price tag. More sunbeds, better bar staffing, poolside drinks service, improved food quality and better communication with guests would make a huge difference. Many of these are fairly straightforward improvements that should be achievable for a company the size of Meliá. I wish the hotel well and hope it continues to improve, but for us, we’ll be returning to the Meliá in Tenerife next year, where we feel the overall experience, particularly for families, is better. A good holiday overall, but certainly plenty of room for improvement.
