Grand Hyatt Lanzarote Playa Dorada Resort

This was a return visit, and unfortunately probably our last. We visited and 2024 and back then I had nothing negative to say at all. Unfortunately now cost cutting seems to have reduced the quality of stay. The food mainly, very repetitive with hot food options being poor. The salad bars were lovely and plenty of choice. The restaurants unfortunately rush courses way too much otherwise would be an enjoyable experience. Many sunbeds need replacing, they are just plastic sunbeds and I think if a hotel is claiming to be 5 star a comfy sunbed is a basic. Positives- rooms are spacious, modern and clean. Housekeeping is excellent and the minibar daily replenishment is good. Cafe is really nice, good coffees and cake and sandwich selection is also good. Location is good, took around 45 minutes transfer on coach and shops and restaurants in short walking distance. We hired a car from the desk in reception, this was easy and convenient with free parking. Evening bar staff are great, really attentive and friendly. Cocktails are lovely. The hotel appearance itself is nice. Despite the good points I just don’t think it warrants the price tag to stay, and too much focus on pushing grand club. We hoped this was a hotel we would return to over the years but quality has slipped, perhaps if first visit you’d be happy but as we’ve experienced better it’s spoilt it for us.

we absolutely loved this hotel on our previous visit in April but during our stay 5th to 12th October 2026 we had £50 english pounds stolen from my purse inside the room safe. I always take £200 in case of emergencies on our homeward journey but found that only £150 was was in my purse and there may have been euros taken but i could not be !00% sure what euros were in the safe. My husband then set a hidden trap in the door of the safe and the next day when we returned to our room, the trap was gone and the safe had been opened. When we reported it to the hotel they sent a Manager Miriam and a man with a computer to download info from the room door, she also took a photo of the trap that we had set and advised she would look at the footage and get back to us. Later that evening a do not enter sign was hung on the outside of our door by someone as our sign was still hanging on the inside of our door. The next day my husband went to guest relations and asked to speak to Miriam but was advised it was her day off, my husband asked for our safe lock to be audited to check who had accessed it but she said the hotel does not the ability to do this (which we know they have) . She advised that the downloaded info from the door showed that only authorised personnel had entered our room as she showed that the photo taken of the safe door the day previously was logged on the computer. We were advised that as only authorised personnel had entered our room the hotel does not accept liability for missing items. THE MONEY WAS IN A LOCKED SAFE. She advised Miriam would contact in due course but for our remaining 3 days we heard nothing from her or the Hotel. We decided that we had to make the most of our remaining days and not spend the time reporting it to the Police, although we were paranoid about the money left in the safe. We have travelled extensively over the years and never experienced anything like this, it definitely took the shine off our holiday and tarnished our view of the hotel and its personnel.

The location of the hotel is excellent, close to all amenities. There are some things that let it down. Food was often cold and not much choice, I avoided any meat due to being told about food poisoning and raw chicken and pork being served. If you go grand club it’s not worth the money, same dried up sandwiches served every day and at times there were no sandwiches and you had to ask for food to be restocked. I’d also be mindful that money was taken from my room and another couple had money taken from the safe, the hotel don’t accept any responsibility and state only authorised personnel can access your room, but when you have maids, the turn down service and the man topping up your water entering your room how do you know who is stealing? Playa blanca is lovely but I wouldn’t stay in this hotel again.

Hotel was not what I expected. No pool view as a great big tree was blocking out daylight never mind the view! A lot of the areas shown were not included in my package, which was not explained when I booked and is quite misleading! Food at buffet very boring and repetitive. Only 2 specialty restaurants were open at any one time for 3/4 straight days. Hana was actually quite nice. We ate out a few times. Mini bar was very limited, 2 bottles of beer and some soft drinks. I did expect some wine. I think we were spoiled by Iberostar Selection on last holiday 5 months ago.

We had a lovely stay overall and really enjoyed our holiday. The quality of the food was very good, and we were particularly impressed with the beer from the pool bar, which seemed to taste better than the beer from the main bar, where it could sometimes taste a little flat. The staff were generally friendly and helpful. The team at the main bar in the evenings were particularly good and always went out of their way to help. That said, we did feel that some staff around the main pool area could have been a little more welcoming. Getting towels also seemed to be a real effort for some members of staff, which was disappointing. Personally, I have never been a fan of tiered access or having a separate club area, as I feel it can create a different atmosphere for guests. In my view, all-inclusive should mean that everyone has access to all of the hotel’s facilities. If I could give you one tip it would be to give wrist bands or something different for all inclusive guests! Having to scan your card each time for a drink got really annoying. Overall, we would rate the hotel as a good 4-star property. It could benefit from some updating in certain areas, but despite these points, we had a lovely holiday and would definitely consider returning again.
