Hotel Alua Puerto de la Cruz, Tenerife – Disappointing All-Inclusive Experience The hotel itself was clean and tidy, and the general cleanliness was good. The hotel staff were friendly, and the housekeeping was excellent, cleaning our room every day throughout our 10-day stay. However, there were several significant issues that affected our overall holiday experience. Swimming pool: The biggest concern was the condition of the swimming pool. The bottom was deteriorating, with large holes appearing, some approximately the size of a dinner plate. These could potentially cause injuries to guests’ feet. In my opinion, the pool needs to be closed for major repairs before someone gets seriously hurt. This is a serious safety concern that should not be ignored. Food: The all-inclusive buffet was very disappointing. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were bland, tasteless and lacking in flavour. I expected a much better standard of food from an all-inclusive hotel. Entertainment and atmosphere: The entertainment appeared to be run by a French company and was predominantly aimed at French-speaking guests. Around 90% of the guests during our stay appeared to be French, which made the entertainment feel less inclusive for other nationalities. Unfortunately, we also experienced some very rude, arrogant and inconsiderate behaviour from certain older French guests. Their lack of courtesy and manners sometimes made the atmosphere unpleasant. Location and weather: The hotel is situated in the north of Tenerife, where the weather is generally less consistently sunny than in the south of the island. The climate was still tolerable, but it is something worth considering when choosing where to stay. Overall verdict: Although the hotel was clean and tidy, the friendly staff and excellent daily housekeeping were positives, but the deteriorating swimming pool, disappointing food and lack of entertainment suited to a wider range of nationalities let it down badly. The condition of the pool was particularly concerning from a safety point of view. Based on our experience, I would think carefully before booking this hotel, especially if you are expecting good-quality all-inclusive food, well-maintained facilities and entertainment that caters for everyone.

The hotel was pleasant but I need to expand Most of the staff were rather cold in their interactions with us. Maybe it's a cultural thing but definitely not what I would consider personalities for hospitality. As an Irish person we're used to more effort. The rooms were cleaned daily and towels were changed every day if you needed it. My hairdryer was ready to explode. It would work for about 60 seconds, making dreadful noise and overheating, then it would stop working for about 5 mins until it cooled down. There was no regulating the temperature and it felt dangerous. I reported it the first day but by the time someone came to look at it, an hour had passed and I had managed to dry it, slowly. I told maintenance to come back tomorrow but nobody did and the hairdryer was not fixed for my entire stay. The food was not great, typical buffet all inclusive but additionally it was cold mostly. There was a good variety and the staff on the floor were quick to clean up. I just didn't feel excited for any meal and left unsatisfied unfortunately. I was charged €150 to upgrade from B&B rate to all inclusive through Love Holidays for 7 days but my sister did the same upgrade at the reception upon check in and was charged €240...... strange! Most of the guests were French or Spanish and they don't seem to know about queuing at bar or restaurants, no smiling, no consideration for others. As much as I want to go away and experience other cultures, I think the Irish are quite rightly labelled friendlier than other nationalities and I like it Don't think I'd return

If you don’t mind sharing your holiday with cockroaches, worms, pigeons in the dining hall and rats on the beach this is the place for you! I’m absolutely amazed that no other reviews have mentioned this as so many guests were swerving the cockroaches and screaming and stomping on them as they made their way through the passageway back to their rooms! The rooms themselves are decent, with tv (no signal for us at all so no tv for our stay) and a separate area to sit and relax. Joined by critters of course! The hotel itself is aimed at people over the age of 70 and if you’re French 🇫🇷 then you’re welcome! As the animation team are French and all announcements made in french! Most guests were unwell, blowing noses and coughing and in turn myself and my friend ended up so! Air con went off ! We requested a room change after cockroaches entered our patio and room, this was met with moodiness and silence even though we had whispered about the cockroaches the day prior to the reception staff incase it was an isolated incident giving them time to sort it out! Francisco in particular we found to be rude and unfriendly but hey we were only guests! Water was pouring through the ceiling outside the dining hall on one morning and again staff simply stared at guests who found this strange and who nearly slipped over on the pool of water this created! Maybe if we were all inclusive and sat drinking all day we would have been better received but you would think being women who were not drunk we would be the preferred choice?!?! A very unfortunate choice of hotel and not one I would recommend or choose again.

I’ll start with the positives, the room service staff was great, the food hall staff were great, bartenders and amazing and the staff overall are pretty friendly, quick and make you feel welcome. The negative is directed mainly at my room, obviously I can’t speak for all the rooms. However we had ant like insects which were in our room and could see them by the sink, floor and on some tables(before we had any food in the room) but made it uncomfortable for my partner and I to eat in our apartment style room. The staff used insect spray in the room the next day and it was sorted but was still unpleasant. The electronic safe wouldn’t open twice and we had to call reception to sort it out too but overall was a fairly good hotel. This is just my experience, I would go back again but I know what to look out for with future visits.

I previously wrote a review on this hotel, back on May. There were positives and negatives. I am very surprised that for a hotel if this size, and given the amount of staff behind reception/check in desks, none of them can be bothered to acknowledge my review - whether positive or negative. Not only mine, but they never seem to acknowledge any reviews. I think this just sums up a “couldn’t care less attitude, we’ve had your money, get on with it”
