Hotel Catalonia Oro Negro

I researched this hotel before we booked it. Mostly good reviews but some very poor reviews. I booked it with a very open mind. We are on our last evening of 7 days. I will give a very honest review and accurate, unlike some I have read. This hotel is quite old and worn in places and improvements must be made as they are being. The staff are fabulous with the animation as good as I've seen in my many travels. I must mention the animation team. Aldring Tamara Noel All have fabulous personalities and so organised and helpful. Special mention for Aldring who is a comedian and connects so well withe younger ones. All the staff are so friendly. The food is very good, our room was fabulous and the pool area is spotless with the lifeguard all over ever drop of water or mess that is made. Children are safe here with their every move observed. The location we found very good, close to the centre. Please do not be put off by some of the other negative reviews. We are coming back in April 2027 becaise it was so good. Great value for money. Nice clean hotel and lovely staff. Really enjoyed our stay and would stay in the hotel again. Good location close to bars and restaurants near the beach and strips. Family had a great time and enjoyed themselves. We had a lovely view on the golf course from our balcony and the ocean. Our room was quiet and over looked the pool.

Great location, our room was spotless and cleaned every day. We were half board and had no issues with the food. The food was different every night. The only reason I have left a star off is loads of building work being done at the swimming pool very noisey all day. This is no fault of the hotel our tour operator did not tell us before the holiday. We ate at the snack bar at lunch time which was also great. Pizza was delicious. Spirits at the bar were lethal very large measures 🤣. I would return to this hotel again.

Please do not go to Catalonia Oro Negro with high expectations. We stayed for 7 nights and, unfortunately, were very disappointed with the overall condition and cleanliness of the hotel. In our opinion, the hotel is very run-down and needs significant improvements throughout the complex. We booked a standard room, so we weren’t expecting luxury, but we did expect basic cleanliness and comfort. The corridors leading to our room were absolutely filthy, with visible stains, food and dirt on the floors. The room itself was very basic, with no safe or kettle. The two beds were on wheels and moved every time we moved during the night. The skirting boards were coming away from the walls, and the floors were dirty. Overall, the room felt tired, poorly maintained and in need of attention. The food was average at best, with a real school-canteen feel to the restaurant. There was a heavy emphasis on fish, and the fresh-cooking station mainly offered chicken thighs or pork. The selection was repetitive, and the food often didn’t taste particularly fresh. The breakfast sausages were practically inedible! There was a fresh egg station, which was a positive, but we repeatedly noticed flies around the fresh meats and cheeses. We also saw multiple cockroaches running across the restaurant floor, which was very concerning. Drinks are charged separately at dinner, and even water wasn’t provided. The staff, however, were lovely and deserve a mention. The location is something to consider before booking. It’s approximately a 20-minute walk to the nearest beach and the Golden Mile, but there are some very steep hills to tackle. I wouldn’t recommend it for families with young children or anyone who struggles with walking uphill, particularly in the Tenerife heat. The sunbed situation was another major disappointment. By 8:45 am, people were already waiting around the pool to get a sunbed, and by 9:30 am, they were all taken. Towels were left on beds throughout the day, even when people weren’t using them. We stayed for the whole week and ended up going to the beach every day because we couldn’t get a sunbed by the pool. The communal areas were just as disappointing. Reception felt dated and cramped, with uncomfortable seating and low ceilings. The lifts were extremely small and slow, so we often used the stairs instead. Unfortunately, the stairwells appeared very poorly maintained, with dirt, flies and visible mould. The overall cleanliness of the hotel was a real concern throughout our stay. Pool towels require a €10 refundable deposit, but you cannot exchange them for clean towels during the week, meaning you’re left using the same towel repeatedly throughout your stay. Overall, I would not return to Catalonia Oro Negro. It felt more like a basic place to sleep than a hotel where you could enjoy your holiday and relax. There was no real sense of comfort or luxury, and the general condition of the hotel fell well below our expectations. The staff were lovely, but unfortunately, this wasn’t enough to make up for the poor cleanliness, dated facilities, disappointing food and lack of available sunbeds. If you’re looking for a clean, modern hotel where you can relax by the pool and enjoy spending time at the property, I would recommend looking elsewhere. If you simply want somewhere basic to sleep while spending most of your holiday out exploring Tenerife, it may suit you, but personally, I wouldn’t choose this hotel again. For the money, I would look at other hotels that offer a much better overall experience

Stayed for 5 nights with my mate (2 lads) we stayed in room 442 one of the newly renovated rooms as we paid for a Premiem Room, we did send an email a few months before visiting to make sure we wasn't put in a double bed as we wanted 2 single beds, upon arrival the woman at reception tried to put us in a double bed in a premiem room but we said no as we already emailed, she shrugged her shoulders and said you're going to have to stay in a basic room with single beds then, we refused as we had paid for Premiem.. she then spoke in Spanish to her colleague next to her and then we were put in a Premiem Room with 2 single beds. We were very happy with the room, very clean, modern and had coffee and tea aswell as a newly made ham and cheese sandwich upon arrival, room was a good size, balcony was large and over looked the pool, shower was a rainfall shower it was fantastic and soaked you, bedside light was hanging off the wall though.. Come the morning when the sun came up we was disappointed to see the pool area was under construction making it very crowed around the pool, we wasnt told the area was going to be under construction and still nothing from the staff to tell us upon arrival. Food at the poolside bar was OK nothing to shout about but filled you up I had the club sandwich on a few occasions my mate having the burger and chips. Entertainment was enjoyable around the pool aswell.. We stayed Half board, Breakfast was okay, quite alotnofnselection bit again nothing impressive, we ate once for at the restaurant for Dinner and wasn't impressed not much on offer although they did have chefs on show cooking the food, but wasnt anything special, restaurant is dated and needs renovating.. Hotel is in a fantastic location and close to all the main bars.. One major problem is that over the busy road in the car park where the coached dropped us off is a hub for Prostitutes to gather and flash the passers by and shout for business at them. Very dangerous carpark late at night, be wary, stay clear of that side of the road, if the coach drops you off in the car park get over the road quick, you will be approached by street walkers, the police clearly know what goes on there and need to clamp down on it.
