Hotel Antico Monastero

We have been here every summer since 2016. The accomodation and dinner has become better and better since.

Our stay was okay overall. We booked a 4-person room in the hotel, but were placed in an annex building located on the campsite. That was fine — we received a small apartment with a separate bedroom. Pros: Large fridge Small kitchenette Separate bedroom Comfortable beds Good air conditioning Cons: The room was quite dated The cupboards smelled musty Very little storage space — mainly hanging space, but no shelves No space in the bathroom to place your toiletries The “balcony” was actually the exterior corridor shared with other rooms, so not private The room was next to the campsite’s pool shop, and there was a lot of noise starting at 7 AM from preparations One night we were disturbed by campsite guests being loud until late Food: Dinner was okay — definitely better than a typical buffet-style all-inclusive hotel, but not amazing. The pasta starters were always delicious. Main courses and desserts ranged from very good to just okay. The breakfast buffet was varied and of good quality. The only downside was the fruit juice from the machine, which was the typical low-quality kind you often find in Italian hotels. Location: Very peaceful area, located directly next to the campsite — which wasn’t disturbing at all. A big plus is that you can use the small (but expensive) shop on the campsite. There are two pools, and they were never too crowded. If you walk through the campsite, you’ll reach the lake quite quickly. There are a few restaurants and cafés along the water. If you walk another 2 km, you’ll reach the tourist center of Toscolano. This area mainly consists of restaurants and bars. Don’t expect charming shopping streets — there’s not much to do, which was a bit of a shame. You’ll need to drive quite a bit to get to a livelier town. Conclusion: Overall, good value for money. Updating the rooms would make this hotel even better.

The customer service was non existent, the staff were unfriendly and rude. The beds were very uncomfortable the food for Italy was disappointing not much choice. Breakfast was limited and yoghurts and soya milk out of date. They couldn’t accommodate late check out as were supposedly full, asked if I could use some facilities as had my elderly mother was travelling with us and she has mobility issues. We asked if we could use a room just to shower before we travelled and they advised us to go to the campsite attached to the hotel to use the showers in the block this was a bit of a walk for my mum and was not possible. I was willing to pay, but they still could not help. I also asked on the first day for a car hire and was advised we could book 30 minutes in 35 degree heat for the car hire. They had no numbers of any car companies. I had to provide them with one and asked them to call which they were very reluctant to do as I needed the car delivered to me due to my mother’s mobility issues.
