San Luca Cortona Hotel

We have stayed at Hotel San Luca on several occasions and have never been disappointed, in fact very pleased. At reception the staff is friendly and helpful. We chose a room with a balcony and had a spectacular view of the valley and in fact could see Montepulciano which we had just left. The first night we ate the affiliated restaurant, what a ,view. And enjoyed ourselves so much we returned for a second dinner. The staff was friendly accommodating and patient with our Italian. I hope you will be fortunate enough to meet the maitre'D with the silver hair.

The only real positives of this hotel are its location in Cortona and the views from some of the rooms. We booked a Superior Room (#67) for two with a countryside view, but there was nothing particularly special about the room itself to justify the category. Unfortunately, our room was directly below the breakfast room, and every morning starting around 6:00 AM there was significant noise from above—especially chairs being dragged across the floor—which continued until nearly 10:00 AM and made sleeping in impossible. Stay away from the 4th floor! Additionally, another couple in our party had confirmed reserved parking before arrival but were informed upon check-in that parking was no longer available, which was disappointing and inconvenient. Overall, while the location is excellent, the noise issues and parking experience made the stay fall short of expectations.

Although this hotel is nowhere near a 4* it does have amazing views. The deluxe room was very small and dark and the bathroom was disappointing with an extremely small shower. We were also below the breakfast room and were woken every morning by the scraping of chairs on the floor. Breakfast was adequate but no option for hot food. We booked this hotel based on the fact it had parking which is a plus point along with the views. Parking must be pre booked as they only have 4 spaces

The views from the hotel are unprecedented and the staff at the reception is very professional and helpful. However, the experience was ruined by the unbelievable rudeness of the breakfast service people. From the moment you enter the room, they make you feel unwelcome and, weirdly, are constantly watching how much food you’re taking. They also scolded us for taking a small yogurt to our room, but afterwards we accidentally saw the waitress packing croissants into her purse after the service - obviously to take home. Overall, it’s a shame that such a nice hotel has such unacceptable breakfast service. We were thinking of coming back , but after this experience San Luca is not on our list any longer. This is the worst service we have ever encountered with meals in a hotel.

This hotel can be forgiven much due to the spectacular views offered and its location in the beautiful hilltop town of Cortona. Staff were friendly and helpful explaining the air conditioning, negotiating local taxis and providing electrical plugs. Why this hotel does not have a bar is a mystery as it has a superb breakfast room and terrace with panoramic views. There is good restaurant next door (Il Tonino) but it is a separate business and concentrates on customers dining there.
