Riu Ocho Rios

I recently spent the Halloween weekend at Riu Ocho Rios. As a local guest, I would like to big up the following staff members who went above and beyond and made my stay so memorable. Tyrece from the rasta bar- He had a wonderful personality and very friendly and so was, Mr. Mccain, the rasta bar supervisor. Connique is front desk supervisor and she checked me in, lawd she nice! Felt like I knew her from a long time ago! Rajae from entertainment was informative and friendly and Andre as well! I am not sure if I have her name right but Tamario from the bar was the standout staff member for me! She was fantastic and I would visit again just because of her. Britney from the St.. Ann restaurant was great too, and finally the DJ from Sports bar on Halloween night. The fact that the Halloween party ended early and a lot of persons wanted to still vibe, he gave us good mixes! Anyhoo, big up the entertainment team for that well produced Halloween party! The property could use a later nightlife though 🤭 and a late night grill! Big up though.

Excellent location! Beach is just beautiful. Brilliant distance to many excursions. We did Blue hole and Dunns river with Glenn through the hotel! Highly recommend Glenn and the trips. Rooms dated but super clean every day! Housekeepers did an amazing job. There are 2 pools. Very different vibe! The one by Pepe’s food is always dirty and very chaotic. So we spent most our time at the other pool. Lovely and peaceful with a beautiful bar and friendly staff. My kids love the waterpark as well! Definitely not 5*! I’d say 3/4*. Overall had a nice 2 weeks with our kids but wouldn’t return. .

My little boy and I stayed here for 2 weeks in October 2026. Majority of things were great, a few things mentioning that weren't so great. Main things that were great were: Very clean, the staff work really hard and the rooms are always impeccable everyday. The entertainment staff, restaurant staff and housekeeping staff are all brilliant and so kind and friendly. The facilities are fab - the various pools, slides, beach and choice of water-sports. Tui rep was fab and very helpful. The evening shows are fun. Not so good: The food is so repetitive, we got sick of it. The food at lunch is same as lunch for dinner. The ques for food can be really long and feels like a school canteen most of the time. The food is ok, but not the best quality, especially the desserts - they were not good. The cups make your drink taste like soap. The manager on check in desk and 1 woman who I regrettably did not get the name of was so rude and inconsiderate. The foam party was pretty dangerous, I had to jump in the pool to pull my son out and lifeguards did nothing. Some of the lifeguards were asking guests to secretly get them beers from the bar, and some of them were inappropriate towards woman and being sexual and very flirty, which was uncomfortable. The shop in the hotel is SO expensive. The hotel in general is very noisy, we asked for a quiet room out of the way, but we were woken up every morning around 6.30am The beds are rock hard We had a good time, but main reason we wouldnt go back was because of the food.

This was a holiday supporting a family member. I enjoyed my time. Music played outside did impact our room but that was just down to our room location. Amazing cleanliness, staff could not do enough and working so hard all the time.

The hotel is beautiful, and having been coming to RIU since it first opened, it holds a special place in my heart, and feels like coming home. Unfortunately, our room was quite a distance from the main amenities, and we were initially put on the second floor with no lift. This was really difficult with our suitcases and especially for my mum, who has arthritis. Thankfully, we were able to move to the first floor, which made things much easier. The one thing that really needs improving is the food. I've been coming here for years, and not much seems to have changed. We stayed for five nights, and honestly, for about half of that time, I just couldn't face the food because it was so repetitive. A bit more variety would make such a difference, On a positive note, the staff were lovely, and nothing was too much trouble for them. The hotel shop is very expensive, so it's worth shopping around. I managed to buy my rum at the airport for just US$20. Despite these few disappointments, I would definitely return. RIU feels like home to me, and you can't beat that beautiful beach and watching the sun go down over the sea. With a little more variety in the food and some consideration for guests who struggle with stairs, the experience would be even better.
