Overall Experience This is not a 4-star resort by today’s standards. It may have been one 20 years ago, but it no longer meets current expectations. The price–quality ratio is not fair, especially when compared to other Maldivian resorts in the same category. The general infrastructure is around 30 years old and only very partially renovated, with the exception of some newer overwater bungalows. Most facilities feel outdated and poorly maintained. ⸻ ❌ Negative Points Generator Noise A generator runs 24/7 in the center of the island. Given the very small size of the island, the noise is constant and clearly audible from bungalows and beaches. Instead of being lulled by the sound of waves at night, you hear a continuous mechanical hum. Unpleasant Odors The staff dining and operational areas are concentrated in the center of the island, very close to guest areas, resulting in persistent unpleasant smells in several locations. Fresh Water Policy • No complimentary fresh water served during meals – unacceptable at this level. • Paid water is served in single-use PET plastic bottles, which is a serious environmental inconsistency for a Maldives resort. Rooms & Furnishings • Mattresses are very old and extremely hard. • Sur-mattresses were provided but smelled musty and poorly stored. • Furniture and fittings are clearly 20+ years old, with walls in poor condition and visible deterioration. Bar Service • Very poor service quality • Dirty tables • Staff with very limited English • Long waiting times even for simple drinks Beach Comfort • Beach sunbeds are very old, narrow, and uncomfortable • Mattresses are extremely thin (around 2 cm), offering very low comfort Manta & Whale Shark Excursions All excursions took place in front of other resorts, requiring over one hour by boat. Many guests were joking that it would have been far cheaper to simply book a resort closer to those sites and avoid paying for long, expensive day trips. Private Boat & Shop Pricing The price requested for a 3-hour private boat (USD 450) is excessive and difficult to justify. While we were lucky enough to see a whale shark—which fortunately made the day memorable—the pricing remains disproportionate to the service offered. Regarding the souvenir shop, the value for money of the products is highly questionable. ⸻ ✅ Positive Points Staff Most of the staff are friendly, warm, and genuinely welcoming, especially at: • The main restaurant • Reception • Dive center Unfortunately, this does not extend to the bar teams. Food • Good overall variety • Appreciable effort to reuse ingredients creatively (e.g. salads from previous meals) Areas for improvement: • Ice creams taste artificial • Meat quality and tenderness • Croissants lack flavor • Mango should be served daily when in season in the Maldives Spa Excellent massages and very good infrastructure. The spa delivers the overall quality and experience that should be expected across the entire resort. ⸻ Final Remark I am a graduate of EHL Hotel Business School and have worked in several luxury hotels, including resorts in the Maldives. This feedback is professional and based on hospitality industry standards. Angaga Island Resort has potential due to its location and staff, but without a major renovation, improved sustainability practices, and better service consistency, it does not justify its 4-star positioning nor its pricing.

This was our 18 time to the Maldives and did not disappoint!! We loved the budgies, and the gardens beautifully maintained by a really lovely man who bid us a good morning every day. Staff were wonderful super polite and attentive. Our waiter in the restaurant Ihshad was really lovely and provided me with a whole pot of coffee every morning!! Our room boy also exceptional although I don’t know his name, we had beautiful bed decorations for our anniversary and my birthday. Spa was amazing and reasonably priced. Unfortunately we missed the whale sharks on our trip so we are going to have to come back to see them. The island organised trips were reasonable however the dive school trips were not . $250 for the whale shark trip was excessive and of course you are not sure to see them!! Overall a beautiful island snorkling adequate but lots of coral bleaching again this is not the islands fault. We returned fully relaxed and chilled which is what we needed. Be back to see the sharks!!! Thank you all for making our holiday so special x
