The journey from the airport to the hotel took toughly 1 hour. Make sure you change your money at the airport as there is no cash machine at the hotel and we were told there also isn't one in the village. We arrived at the hotel at around 8am and were greeted by staff who showed us somewhere to sit so they could check us in and provided us with a delicious cocktail. We were unfortunately unable to get into our room until 12:30pm so luckily there was a "hospitality lounge" where were could change into our swimsuits - this lounge had 4 shower cubicles/sofa/bottled water etc. Luckily we carried 1 set of swimsuits each in our hand luggage, other guests were not so lucky and had to lounge around in the heat in whatever clothes they had travelled in until their rooms were ready - normally 2pm. We stayed in room 804, which is a 2 minute walk at most from the facilities/restaurant/bar etc. The room is a ground floor deluxe room which had a lovely patio area over looking the gardens and a sea view. It was one of the newly renovated rooms and was very spacious. In the room we were provided with towels, slippers and there is a mini bar (you have to order your items everyday) shampoo, conditioner and body wash are also provided along with a small vanity box (cotton buds, nail file and 3x cotton pads) and a shower cap. There is a large light up mirror in the bathroom and also a small magnifying mirror (which i felt was installed quite high) there is also a full length light up mirror in the room. Personally I would have liked a vanity table/mirror as doing my hair and make up in the room mirror with no table in front and only using the floor was interesting! The bed is absolutely massive and I personally found it a little hard, but my husband loved it. The pillows were very soft and plump. There is aircon in this room with a digital display thats very bright so make sure you turn the light off on it at night time. Being on a tropical island you must expect wildlife.... we had a mouse in our room one evening and it got into our suitcase and made itself at home. We reported this to reception and within 5 minutes they had attended our room, siliconed the area where the mouse gained entry, changed our bedding and towels and cleaned the room. They also laid some mouse traps and changed our curtains for brand new ones. They also washed and pressed our clothes free of charge and cleaned out the suitcase. Our housekeeper, Vadam (cant spell her name) was absolutely lovely. She cleaned the room to a high standard and was extremely friendly and chatty. She is a credit to the hotel. The pool area is lovely, although quite tired. There are tiles that need replacing in the pool, and the sunloungers look a little mouldy and in need of an upgrade. There are also sunloungers that line the beach area if you prefer to be by the sea. There is a lifeguard on duty who walks up and down and is very polite. There is a pool bar open from 10am-5pm. Afternoon tea is served in the coral bar from 3pm til 5pm and this is also right by the pool. Every day at 11am there is some sort of aqua aerobics in the pool which a lot of guests tend to enjoy. Sun loungers around the pool do get reserved very quickly and by 8:30am about 95% of them have gone, so you must be quick. This I didnt enjoy as I just wanted to take this holiday slow and not stress. The hotel say they have a 1 hour policy before they remove towels, but this isn't enforced. People do tend to smoke and vape around the pool - as a non smoker I didn't enjoy as I felt I was inhaling 2nd hand smoke fairly often. there seems to be a seating area specifically for smokers and as horrible as it soynds I wish they went there to smoke. Sorry not sorry for that comment. The bar service is good although fairly slow. Not all drinks are included in the all inclusive. I wanted an espresso martini for an example but this is an extra charge. The food at the hotel is delicious, I dont think we had a bad meal at all. I really enjoyed the indian night, the butter chicken was to die for. They cater for everyone, and had a separate vegan area. There was no rushing for tables at the restaurant and you were allowed to take your time. Just one gripe in Dolce Vita regarding a creme brulee that 100% was NOT a creme brulee. We waited 45 minutes for this desert (it was on a menu that we were paying extra for) when it arrived I sent it back, they promptly bought another one (exactly the same) so I sent that back too. They did reduce our bill by 500MR at MY request. I didn't want to pay for something I didn't eat and which I felt was definitely without a doubt either a poorly made creme brulee or not even a creme brulee at all! One thing which annoyed me is the people who walked around the pool everyday selling bracelets, cover ups and also trips. They would ask you copies amounts of times a day and it got a bit irritating. We just replied no thank you and they would leave. Once is fine, but it got a bit much after a while. I do however, recommend you book the 5 island tour with Chis, it was such a fun trip to take. We paid about £60pp and it was definitely worth it. We did arrange a taxi through the hotel to go the market on the Sunday. This cost us about £25. The taxi driver was lovely, although we do feel we got a bit conned (not sure if it was a language barrier??) After we finished at the market (30 minutes as it was awful) we got back into the taxi to come back to the hotel, but he took us the scenic way stopping off at a local shop selling t-shirts/trinkets/cashmere, and told us to go inside. As we are polite and didnt want to offend, we went inside and were immediately pounced on by 2 shop members who wouldn't leave us alone. It got quite bad that we agreed to buy 2 t-shirts (we didn't want) for £25. Swiftly got back in the taxi and came back to the hotel. I was so annoyed. makes me wonder if he was on a commission from this store??? Therefore, if you get a taxi, make sure he only takes you where you want to go and back. There is also a fitness suite, a spa and a small shop at the hotel. We didnt personally use the fitness suite ir spa, but saw that the soa ran daily offers for massages etc. The shop stocked a few essentials and was quite nice. Although the one time we did go in there, the staff member was quite grumpy, maybe she had had a long day! Overall we have enjoyed this holiday, the staff are super friendly and it is a lovely quiet place to relax. There were a few small issues for me and I would give it a 4.5/5. It's definitely worth visiting this hotel, I dont think you'll be disappointed.
This is a beautiful hotel, with the most amazing beach, beautiful tropical gardens with the gentle background of bird song, a relaxed vibe, awe inspiring sunrises and friendliest of staff and delicious food. Great location in the East, we did two amazing trips from here and there is so much on offer from the hotel to do. We chose this hotel to celebrate my 60th birthday and the friendliness of the staff was standout and really made us feel very special. The welcome on arrival is so warm with a delicious refreshing drink. Preetam contributed to this warm welcome and checked us into one of the refurbished rooms with a sea view. And through his generosity of spirit made sure everything was perfect for my 60th. If we had any tiny issues that were dealt with so quickly. Special mentions also go to Mr Singh, again his warmth on arrival and throughout was amazing. Thank you to Brinda in the Indigo restaurant for your amazing smile and warmth. To Bidham who ensured our room was spotlessly cleaned every day and to everyone who was involved in arranging the gorgeous happy birthday in the room and amazing swans. To the manager Kuna and incredible staff at the Dolce Vita. Thank you again for making my birthday so memorable. The staff that deliver the drinks on the beach provide an amazing service - special shout out to Prem but you all work so hard and always with a smile. There are always loungers on the beach and also a brilliant service to collect your beach towels. To all the chefs - amazing- the food is just delicious. The Spa is incredible and would highly recommend a treatment. For everyone else not mentioned- thank you. The service and hospitality is truly special. But overall the vibe is chilled and views are breathtaking at this paradise tropical hotel and this holiday at the Ambre will always be a very treasured memory.
This was our second visit to this hotel as our first experience for our wedding anniversary was so lovely, unfortunately this was not our experience second time round for my birthday. I had emailed the hotel to politely ask for a specific room, this was not dealt with and we were given an awful room, moved the next day but already disappointed. Then no acknowledgement of my special birthday or totally half hearted, room cleaning was terrible, no change of bedding for 10 days. We are totally upset by this hotel. Samma at the beach was amazing and should be commended. The hotel needs some tlc and it seems to have lost its sparkle - what has happened?
I truly enjoyed my experience and would recommend the hotel to anyone lokking for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Thank you to each and every staff especially to Mrs Nicolleta who was friendly, welcoming and professional. She greeted us with a warm smile and make us feel so welcome.
