The Residence Mauritius

A great location spread out along a clean white sandy beach, with beautiful turquoise sea and coral reefs. The weather is very changeable in Mauritius, with sudden downpours, followed by blazing sunshine, and a strong wind, but still very warm. There are plenty of water sport options, a number were free as included within the package, seeing all the coral from a small glass bottom boat was an incredible sight, along with the beautiful fish. The complex is exceptionally clean, all public areas constantly being cleaned, and thanks to Sehil the housekeeper our room was spotless, cleaned twice daily with plenty of fresh towels, and additionally there was lots of wardrobe space. The all inclusive package was very good value, breakfast was wide selection of international food and an egg station, with the chef's multitasking so there was never much of a wait, they were always serving more than one person ! There are a number of talented staff, in restaurant The Plantation Nesilo is a perfectionist, cutlery perfectly set, with precision food service and clearing, albeit let down by the kitchen by the speed meals come out, allow a good hour for a simple lunch. Also Abhi in The Plantation was always smiling and wanting to do his best for the customers, a pleasure to be there. Around the pool and hotel areas on the beach there is a fantastic team of pool attendants, providing towels, drinks, food and anything else. Edward is always so happy, with a great sense of humour, Arjun will bring a smile to a cloudy day, a local Mauritian, thank you also to Precila always there with the towels. The hardest worker award in the pool areas has to go to Suryadev, always rushing around serving drinks, and when he has a moment spare comes round to see if there is anything more he can do, excellent customer service. The main bar area has entertainment most evenings, some traditional dance acts and always a pianist with a singer. The absolute star waitress is Sarah, nothing was too much for her, working very long hours but always with a smile and time  for each customer, a future leader. Thank you also to Harish, Shaymal and Sakib in the bar, a great service team. We would certainly return to The Residence, good value, and all you need for a relaxing holiday.

It was an excellent experience: a great atmosphere, great people, and great service. I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the kindness of the business manager, Caruna, who was kind enough to extend our checkout time, considering the kids we had. We have just returned from a two week stay in The Residence hotel, we had an amazing time, I have just seen the last two reviews and can honestly not agree less with the comments. The hotel is located in a stunning position, there is snorkelling from the beach but not loads of fish although my husband did see a turtle, there are snorkelling trips included that take you out to the coral reef where you’ll see more fish and sea life, there is also some great sea activities included.we tried the sea kayaks, water skiing and snorkelling trips. Gorgeous views from the hotel. The rooms are clean, spacious and have very comfortable beds. The butler service is an added wow factor for sure. The hotel does allow children and families and there is a kids club I believe for them. The food in the buffet was varied and set on a theme each night, there was a large selection and in my experience plenty of choice for vegetarians or pescatarians as well as meat eaters. It was all very delicious and of a high standard, lots of choice. We paid extra for the lobster night and ate next to the beach in the plantation restaurant , it was amazing and the best meal we have ever had! Yes drinks are extra but that’s to be expected when paying for half board. All of the staff, from the reception staff who were so helpful each time we spoke to them, to the really friendly staff in the buffet restaurant who always greeted us warmly and were happy to help if we asked for anything, to the friendly housekeeping who made sure we had what we needed in our rooms and the staff around the pool and beach who were happy to help and always had a smile and happy to have a friendly chat. We found the hotel to be quiet and not overly noisy considering the amount of guests, this may be due to the scale of the hotel and how well spread out sun loungers etc were. We had 3 treatments at the SPA between us over the two weeks and they were amazing, each one, the staff were fantastic and so good at what they do, if you get chance to go I would definitely recommend it. Overall, we had a fantastic time, and would return to the hotel without a doubt, which I have never considered on previous holidays we have had, so I think that says quite a lot.

The Residence in Mauritius is a beautiful hotel in a perfect setting. I would highly recommend it. The service, food and facilities are excellent. The building is starting to show its age in some places but this is minimal and the wonderful positives far outweigh this one minor negative.

We stay regularly at this wonderful, colonial style hotel, situated at one of the best beaches at Belle Mare. We love the warmth and friendliness of the staff, the spacious and well appointed rooms, and the excellent food. Highly recommended.
