Akumal Bay Resort

We travelled to Akumal Bay beach and spa resort in April of 2026. The snorkelling right off the beach is the best I’ve experienced in Mexico, and rivals some of the snorkelling we’ve done in Australia. The resort itself has a fantastic natural ambiance to it. The grounds are well maintained and the foliage surrounding the resort provides a relaxing natural feel to guests. The food was good, in particular the Brazilian steak house was fantastic. This is a smaller resort and quaint and may not be the best choice for those looking for a party environment. For couples who prefer quiet relaxation, this resort is an excellent choice. I’ve never stayed at an all-inclusive twice, but I will absolutely be returning here in part because of the above and beyond service provided by Alan. We had an issue during our stay and Alan went well out of his way, and in my opinion, provided exceptional care well beyond what was expected. I’d like to commend his service and care here and will be reaching out to the resort to make sure Alan gets the recognition he deserves. All-in-all I enjoyed my stay here and will return in the future.

My review differs from others. We stayed at building "3" which I guess means something. We had the premium package junior suite, with the penthouse view. The view was really nice. The sauna or hot tub there was dated, some rust color in the tub. Needed an update. Going back to the introduction / checking in at the resort, which they separate (different location) depending on the price you paid I believe. Don't recall her name but she was preoccupied and I did not get a good vibe. She was mentally somewhere else and going through the motions. Service was inconsistent the first few days until I said something. If I paid for the premium service that's what I expect. Restaurants were on a rotating closure depending on the day. Beach was small and plenty of rocks, bring beach shoes. Very scenic but not what I thought it was going to be with sandy beaches, meaning walking into the water with bare feet. We did not snorkel or scuba dive. I'm sure that would have been nice. The kicker was the last day (early morning) my wife lying in bed asked if I was going taking a shower. There was a noticeable noise like water running. We then went to see what it was and discovered a serious leak in the bathroom, water literally pouring from the ceiling. I put one of the trashcans under it and notified the resort. When we checked out a few hours later, we mentioned this in after they asked how our stay was. There was no apology or an attempt at any compensation. I did not press the issue but thought I would share our experience on this site. After reading the reviews on trip advisor I decided to book Akumal Bay. The pictures are for this site are deceiving, most likely dated. Ironic really with what matched our stay. So, anyone considering this location do your research for other places as well and compare.

Just stayed here for 2 nights and we can’t figure out all of the positive reviews. This place looks nothing like the pictures. This resort is old, tired not well kept at all. We were given a “ penthouse room”. It was dated, had a strong musty smell and was just gross. On our second day housekeeping didn’t close our door so our room door was wide open all afternoon while we were away. Customer service is pretty weak overall, and the buffet food just sits out with mosquitos all over. I would never come back here or recommend this to anyone.

We recently stayed at the Akumal Beach Resort, and it exceeded all of our expectations. From the moment we arrived, the entire staff went completely above and beyond the call of duty to ensure we had a perfect stay. We want to give a special, but by no means limited, thank you to Alan, who was fantastic at the welcome desk, as well as Manuel Novelo, Raquel, and Adrianna at the buffet restaurant for their incredible service. Every single team member we encountered was genuinely amazing. The beach itself is absolute paradise—powdery white sand, crystal-clear turquoise water, and the perfect atmosphere to completely unwind. The entire property, including our spacious room with stunning views, was exceptionally clean and well-maintained throughout our stay. The culinary experience was a major highlight, featuring a wonderful buffet and four gourmet restaurants that offered varied, delicious options with something excellent to choose from at every meal. We also loved the great variety of daily things to do, including snorkeling, paddle boarding, and aerobics, which kept things fun and active. Whether you want to join the activities or just lounge by the beautiful pools, this resort has the perfect balance. Thank you to the whole team for making our vacation so special. We cannot wait to come back!

Can't say enough about this resort! The accommodations, the staff, the food, the drinks.. everything was amazing! Everyone was extremely accommodating and helpful I would highly recommend this resort
