Bahia Principe Explore Tulum

We’re 10 days in of 14 and are having a lovely time. Our room in Villa 3 is beautiful, spotlessly clean, great location and super comfortable. Had an issue with toilet but was fixed within 30 mins. Staff are all amazing and are working very hard. Pool areas are lovely and we’ve been on beds just ‘above’ the beach at the main pool to get the breeze as around the pool the heat is so intense. We’ve spent most of the time at the pool near the splash park which also gets the breeze from the sea. Great for our 2.5 year old granddaughter as it has a shallow section in main pool plus a kids section. Definitely getting busier these last few days but still no problem for sun beds. We’ve found the buffet to be really decent with good choice, yes at times when it’s busy, it’s taking some time to refill but we’re on holiday and in no rush. As I said previously, the staff are working full out but I do think management need to have more staff on at peak times and also turn up the air con!! Been to the Brazilian, Italian, Mexican, Japanese and French restaurants and every one has been lovely. Great service, food lovely - just some air con would be good Mr Boss Man!! We’ve just stuck to the house white wine, prefer the Sauv Blanca but the Chardonnay is ok too. Prosecco lovely. Sports bar has been great for the football but just way too hot at times. All in all we’ve had a lovely time despite being a bit apprehensive after all the negative reviews. It’s been our first time in a Bahia so we don’t have anything to compare it to. We also got a private transfer and only took 1 hour 10 mins to get here rather than the bus which got here over 2 hours after us so would highly recommend that!

I don't know what happened to this place. I was here in June/July 2025 & i couldn't stop singing it's praises. Returned a year layer & it's night & day! They sucked the soul out of this place. I could tell from the moment we checked in that it wasn't the same. The staff working the desk oozed like they were miserable. Air conditioning didn't work & thermostat was locked at 75 degrees. Called it in & took them 7 hours to come check it out. They tried to say that it was fine & that's just how it is & attempted to give us the most nonsensical excuse as if we're the only one's to complain about the AC when the whole villa was complaining about it when just a year prior the room was an ice box. Don't take my word for it. Just sift through the reviews for the past few months. I am just 1 in a plethora of folks shedding light on the insufficient AC. Even the staff in the main dining room for buffet told us that management didn't want to run the AC due to wanting tonscale back the electricity bill. I went from saying I would come back every year for the remainder of my lifetime to NEVER returning even if you paid me. It's gotten to the point that I'm willing to take the loss on my 3 remaining nights, bail & book another resort. I'm not even going to get into the sargassum situation. It is what it is, that's beyond anyone's control

Where do I begin. Upon arrival Anna served us at first. Was not too impressed however when Leno saw us he came over said Hi as did many others (Sandra, Zahori) just to name a few. Leno took over our checkin. He found us a really good room. He was aware this was our 28 or 29th visit. Is this the best place to go maybe, maybe not . It's not perfect but the people who are still working there make it worth the visit. If you go don't expect to find perfection and you will have a great time. Since Hyatt has taken over things are not as good. Food temps, taste, sinage all lacking. Maintenance lacking (bare wires in the bathroom on the way to the buffet). Will I return? More than likely. As I said, it is the people who work there who make it great. People in the buffet like Saul, Lydia (there are 2 Lydias and both are great), Emilia, Solidad, Reynaldo and Hypolito just to name a few. Bar staff like Arie and the guys who work with him are irreplaceable. Go with an open mind. Remember you are on vacation and you don’t have to do anything but enjoy yourself. Last little gripe is that it is really too bad that Hyatt does not recognize that people like us who are loyal and used to have a few special perks get nothing now. Hyatt says you can accumulate points but that only works if you book directly and when you do it is really a lot more expensive than a package deal.

Hotel is beautiful, pools are gorgeous and the staff very helpful. The buffet food wasn't always the best as very slow to replenish food and labelling not always great. The Al la cartes were incredible, especially don Pablo and the Japanese, fantastic food! The spa was amazing, I had the most incredible massage with Rosa who was amazing. We booked 2 excursions through Amstar at the hotel and they were excellent, really helpful and great trips, well organised.

Read some recent reviews about this hotel. We almost changed our hotel because of the negative feedback. I don’t understand what they were expecting but the food was great and the staff are all very friendly and helpful. Our meal in the thali restaurant was excellent and Garraliel(mr T) and Jairo were wonder waiters. The staff in the buffet were all excellent too many of them to mention by name but a big thank you for looking after our family of six. The superior premium room is better than we had anticipated and any amenities not provided are just a click away on the app. I needed a sewing kit, ordered it on the app and someone dropped one off that mourning. We have stayed at the sister hotel the Akumal and didn’t notice a great deal of difference in the service other than top shelf drinks. Heineken zero was available in the main lobby bar. All in all. A great choice for a value for money family holiday. Jill gray.
