We stayed in room 2101 (Presidential Suite) with our 12-year-old and left feeling this visit didn’t live up to previous experiences at the resort. This was our THIRD trip to this resort, and this time the suite itself didn’t feel particularly presidential. There was no concierge on this visit. The bed was far too soft, the blackout blinds in the restroom kept falling down, and the air conditioning struggled to cool the room effectively. The TVs are outdated and showing clear signs of wear, with bright spots where the screens are starting to fail. We were told they had fixed the blinds but we shouldn't use them anymore. That the bed and the a/c had been fixed, but never were. Nothing really changed. The bright spot? The rooms were cleaned very well every day, so kudos to the housekeeping staff. A bigger frustration is that this is marketed as a family resort, yet several of the nicer dining options are adults-only. That creates a real problem when you’re traveling with a 12-year-old. Even more inconsistent is the pricing: the resort charges adult rates for kids 13 and up, but still excludes them from the adult-only areas. If you’re going to charge adult prices, those teens should be allowed in. Adult only pool, adult only restaurant, and adult only breakfast? Seems like you want to be a Secrets, not a Dreams. This resort is too small for all of that. This WAS a really GREAT family resort. Now it seems it doesn't know what it wants to be, or it wants to be too much. Families have to scramble to get a breakfast or wait for a long time. Couples get a nice and quick breakfast. Unacceptable at a "family" resort. We also ran into a change with the Bali bed by the pool. On previous stays it was included free with the Presidential Suite; this time we had to pay for it. Fine policies change, so we paid. We then found out that the waiter wasn’t allowed to bring us food, only drinks. The bar is next to the food, and the waiter even said it wouldn’t be a big deal for him to bring us something, but he isn’t allowed. So, we paid for the bed and still had to get up and fetch our own food. This was a letdown since one of the perks was being able to have food/drink service to the bali bed. Restaurants? Himitsu was the low point of the trip for food and service overall. We had people from both presidential suites sitting at the same table (yes we booked BOTH Presidential suites and several master suites), and got cold, mushy, disgusting food after about an hour of waiting for it to arrive. Elsewhere, the dining was mixed. The breakfast buffet at El Patio often couldn’t keep up with demand; the food was good when it was actually available. Seaside had food that arrived cold but still tasted fine. Oceana’s dinner seafood was mushy and overcooked. Portofino was a solid check-plus, as was El Patio dinner on one night. The second night at El Patio the service was poor and we struggled to get simple drink refills despite it not being especially busy. Preferred breakfast should be avoided if there are large tables nearby; the waiters focus on those groups and we waited about 1.5 hours, in the rain, for the main course while those who came after us were served before us. Room service and turndown service were good, though you can’t order room service through the app except late at night. Shows and most of the overall service were fine. In the end, the suite felt tired, several restaurants underperformed, the Bali bed perk disappeared as well as the food service perk, and the adult-only restrictions (especially paired with adult pricing for teens) made it a less family-friendly experience than expected. This will be our last visit to DRC. That is hard to say since it was our favorite. We have been to DRC more than any other resort. It was a nice resort, but now seems like they want to cater more to couples than to families. We really did like this resort, its why this was our third trip and why we took family here. I'm quite disappointed in our last stay, and sorry my family had to experience that.
Portopino was hands down the best restaurant we visited, especially for our family of four! The food was absolutely amazing, and the service made the experience even more special. We ended up having dinner there every night because we loved it so much! A huge thank-you to Abraham, Cindy, Marcos, and Chef Rodolfo for making us feel so welcome and taking such wonderful care of our family. They went above and beyond to make us feel special, and we truly appreciated their kindness and hospitality. Chef Rodolfo’s food was outstanding, and every meal was a pleasure. It’s not easy to find a restaurant where the food, service, and atmosphere are all exceptional, but Portopino delivered every single time. If you’re visiting with your family, Portopino is a must-visit! We’re so grateful to the entire team for making our dinners such a memorable part of our trip. We can’t wait to come back! ❤️
We were greeted by a friendly staff and very hospitable throughout our entire stay. One of our family members mentioned they felt like they were visiting a family members home with the hospitality they felt throughout the stay. Lots of activities for kids to do throughout the week during the day. The resort really caters to families with day activities for kids, teens and entertainment for the adults. The food options are delicious and plenty options for both children or adults, even for picky kids that only eat certain foods. We went during the high season of sargazo but it wasn’t that bad, they clean the beach every morning.
Ernesto and Alex are AMAZING!!! So fun, sweet, and respectful. They took this experience from good to GREAT!! Going to miss them when we get home!
Return visit our last visit was 3 years ago before Hyatt took over and we will not be back which is shame as the staff are fantastic but that is it the food and drink is dreadful cheap alcohol not branded spirits as before and the food is awful less choice I have never complained before but did every day the staff tried but Hyatt have ruined this hotel not worth the money
