Riu Palace Costa Mujeres

We had a great stay at Riu Palace Costa Mujeres (Oct 4-10) and would give the resort 4 out of 5 stars! Overall, it was a wonderful vacation with great entertainment, delicious food options, refreshing drinks, and plenty to enjoy throughout the day and evening. Check-in was easy and stress-free, which was a great way to start our vacation. We stayed in a fourth-floor ocean-view room with a balcony, and the view was beautiful! Our room was clean, and housekeeping left us plenty of towels, so we didn’t need daily service. 🍽️ Food & Drinks The Asian and Mexican restaurants were standouts and some of our favorite dining experiences of the trip. The steakhouse was good, the buffet was decent, and the Italian restaurant was more average. We didn’t try Krystal, so I can’t comment on that one. The drinks were great overall, and the buffet servers were wonderful. One area for improvement was the in-room minibar. It would have been nice to have more mixers available rather than just soda options. 🎭 Entertainment & Activities The entertainment team was fantastic and really helped make the vacation memorable! It seemed like they were everywhere! The silent disco was a highlight, and the shows were enjoyable, especially the Michael Jackson show. We also had fun participating in Kahoot and both my husband and I won on different nights! A special shout-out to Jerry, one of the waiters serving the large pool area, and Manu at the buffet. They provided excellent service and really stood out during our stay. The other wait staff we encountered were great as well. The neon party was fun, although the first hour was a little slow and could have used more energy. I really liked that the resort had a theater show at 1930 for the kids. It was great to go there after dinner and have entertainment for our daughter. 🏝️ Resort & Pools The resort grounds were well maintained, and the property was clean. The pool water temperature was a little disappointing, as the pools could have been colder. The coldest they were was 87F and the warmest was 93F. One of our biggest disappointments was RiuLand. The activities consistently seemed to start about an hour later than their posted times. Because we planned our days around the advertised schedule, we ended up missing all of the activities. This was frustrating and something the resort should improve, especially for families trying to plan their vacation. We also noticed the resort photographers interacting with families, and they seemed wonderful with the children, although we didn’t personally use their services. Final Thoughts Despite a few areas that could be improved, we had a really enjoyable stay at Riu Palace Costa Mujeres. The entertainment, friendly service, drinks, ocean-view balcony, and Asian and Mexican restaurants were definite highlights. With more reliable activity schedules, slightly colder pools, and a better-stocked minibar, this resort could easily be a five-star experience for us. We would recommend Riu Palace Costa Mujeres to anyone looking for a fun resort vacation with great entertainment, good dining options, and friendly service

We arrived home today, (Toronto) after 7 days at this resort. The food was a 4 star. We only had one complaint which was , no shade at the ocean. I should say a tiny amount of shade from Palm trees that have a few leaves. We did not visit the speciality restaurants. The whole resort was very clean, inside and out. As luck would have it we had a tiny amount of seaweed on the beach. Other locations as Playa del Carman were not as lucky. This was our 6th visit to this resort since they opened in 2019. Trip Central prices went up $500. in the last 10 days. We paid $ 1,675. In the main resort restaurant , Alberto provided the 5 star service. He could run circles around all other waiters.

THIS WAS A VERY RACIST RESORT! I had a horrible experience at RIU Palace Costa Mujeres and, as a Black guest, I would absolutely not recommend this resort. From the beginning, my friends and I felt extremely uncomfortable with the way we were treated. We were constantly stared at, and at one point, someone even touched my friend’s hair without her permission. The worst experience happened when I accidentally left my resort bracelet in my room. Despite explaining this and showing staff our room cards to prove that we were guests, I was kicked out of the lounge area while my friend went back to our room to get my bracelet for me. There was no attempt to handle the situation with basic courtesy or discretion. What made it even worse was that while my friend was returning with my bracelet, she was stopped approximately FOUR separate times by staff asking about her own bracelet before she could even get back to us. KEEP IN MIND THIS WAS ALMOST 12AM AT NIGHT!!! AND WE WERE A GROUP OF BLACK WOMEN! The entire experience left us feeling singled out, unwelcome and extremely uncomfortable as Black guests. I understand that resorts have policies around wristbands, but there is a respectful way to enforce those policies. The way we were repeatedly approached and treated felt excessive and discriminatory. We paid to stay at this resort and should have been treated like guests, not like we did not belong there. It completely ruined our experience. I will never return to RIU Palace Costa Mujeres and I highly DO NOT recommend this resort, particularly to Black travellers.

Riu Costa Mujeres—the place where I spent the best 10 days of vacation. Everything was perfect: the activities, the exceptional meals (both at the no-reservation buffet and the specialty restaurants), the magnificent beach, and the staff who were incredibly attentive to guests. The cleanliness—both in the hotel and the rooms—was truly outstanding (150% out of 100%). I recommend it to everyone for a wonderful vacation; it is a clean, safe place with great food. Bravo, Riu Palace!

The hotel is beautiful, rooms are great (especially Elite Ocean Front w/plunge pool!). The staff are all great-- but Jose and Cristo at the Elite Pool Bar are the BEST!!!
