Riu Palace Las Americas

Service is awesome, everyone is welcoming and friendly, food is great. Nice selection with restaurants also at the buffet. Francisco is one of the servers at the outdoor dining for breakfast/lunch. He is awesome, polite, hard worker. The bar tenders, other servers are great too. Cannot forget housekeeping who are friendly and do their job well. Hotel is very dated and is in need of a renovation. They say this RIU property will be renovated July 2027. The bath water has a sulfur odor, the beds are very uncomfortable (terrible) we had to change rooms because of no hot water in shower, the air in our first room was great but the air in our second room was not good. The blankets are not what I would call resort quality but they serve the purpose if you are one who needs a blanket when sleeping. Even with our dislikes we absolutely will go back and recommend this property. Cannot wait to see the new updated Las Americas RIU.

DO NOT STAY HERE. Spoiled food, food poisoning, and a filthy suite DO NOT STAY HERE. My partner got food poisoning, our "premium" suite was dirty and full of bugs, and we paid extra for things that should have been all-inclusive. We stayed 4 nights at Riu Palace Las Americas in a Suite with Sea View, and it was one of the worst resort experiences we've had. Rating: 1/5 · Traveled as a couple · September 2026 Food: The food at every restaurant was bland, and much of it was inedible. Some items were clearly spoiled, including the guacamole. The meats tasted like they hadn't been properly cleaned before cooking. My partner got food poisoning and was vomiting during our stay. We were told the dinner restaurants didn't need reservations, but every time we went they were fully booked and we couldn't get a table. Many food and drink options also cost extra, which felt unfair at an "all-inclusive" resort. Room: For a suite, the condition was unacceptable. The floor was slimy and the whole room was dusty. We both ended up itchy, which made us worry about dust mites or bed bugs. The bed was so uncomfortable that we both woke up in pain. The bathroom was dirty and had bugs, the glasses were dirty, and the beer cans in the fridge were dented and some were missing pull tabs. Entertainment: The themed parties were held off-site at another hotel, and nobody explained this to us. We only made it to the Jungle Party. Staff and service: Customer service was horrible. The staff were rude and unhelpful, and our problems were never properly addressed. At a Palace-branded resort, we expected far better. I wouldn't recommend this resort until RIU addresses its food safety and housekeeping.

Let me start with the positives. The food for an all inclusive is outstanding. Over 11 nights we never had a bad meal the whole time we were there. The staff are friendly and work extremely hard and should be applauded. There simply aren’t enough of them to provide a 5 star service. Waiters around some of the pools and the beach are sporadic, at best. Wait times in the Krystal restaurant resulted in the worst service of all. Twice we came back up to our room at 4pm and had to request a room clean. Which took a further hour despite cleaners being on the floor already. The hotel building itself is beautiful. Very art deco feel. The rooms, however are tired. The shower was hanging off the wall, the phone didn’t work, the patio door handle came off and it took 3 days and several requests both at reception and via the app to fix. The pool floors are dirty with chipped tiles which I don’t expect to find in a ‘5 star hotel’. Nor do I expect to find yesterdays snacks underneath the Sun loungers around the party pool. The one time we requested breakfast in our room with a stated time, it failed to appear. More calls to reception who stated there was a ‘glitch’ with the Riu app. There seems to be a lot of ‘glitches’ with this hotel! It finally appeared 2 hours late and the order was wrong. Maintenance of the hotel is not where it should be which is a management and corporate issue. I’ve heard whispers it’s due to undergo a renovation which would make sense, as there is complete apathy in keeping the previously mentioned areas at the premium level they should be. This is an adults only hotel but do not expect it to be all peace and quiet. The party pool is lively and the staff work really hard to ensure everyone has a fun time. There are quieter areas too for those who don’t want to spend the day slowly getting drunk. Overall, this is far from a bad hotel. It’s let down by things that could, and should, be addressed by RIU. It’s a 4 star hotel at best so remember this when you are booking. Finally, if you want to keep your room, be prepared to pay $20 an hour for the privilege. I would have expected some leniency to be applied for the sake of an hour, especially with the above problems experienced. But reception is very robotic and appears to have no leeway to use their discretion. Would I come back? For the food and the lovely staff who try their best to make everyone happy, yes. The sad thing is, it wouldn’t take much to get to 5 stars without a little investment in the right places. Wake up Riu!

I just love this hotel! This was our 4th time going. I have stayed elsewhere and it did not compare to Riu Las Americas. Service is 5 star. Such a clean hotel, everything sparkles.

This was not our first time at this Riu. We reserved an oceanview suite, which had 2 rooms. The family area had no view, but the bedroom view offered a beautiful view and balcony. We loved Catalina, who greeted us daily in the buffet area. The Italiano Restaurant offered the best food. I ordered the filet, and he ordered the lambchops. Michelin chef in my opinion. Edgar was our server. Bring lots of 1 and 5s for tips.
