Viva Azteca by Wyndham

I had a great time at Viva AZTECA with my friends. Not only because of the great accommodations and activities offered within the resort, but also because of the warmth and energy of the entertainment staff! All of the entertainers are great, but for us it was especially Fernando, Carlos, and Karin! Would go again and recommend <3

We ate at Bamboo at Viva Azteca! Great food! They accomadated our gluten free and vegan diet. Manuel was a great waiter. We will be back.

We just returned from a week at the Viva Azteca by Wyndam in Play del Carmen, Mexico. Overall, it was excellent! For the price point, I would say that it was exceptional! The resort itself is small and well maintained, and is on a beautiful stretch of beach. There are always lots of loungers available on the beach, and usually around the pool as well meaning you don't have to get up stupid early to reserve your spots. The rooms are simple but nice (and clean), and we were pleasently surprised by the food. I would definitely recommend this resort to anyone who asks, particularly at this price point. PROS: - Quick check-in - Universally friendly staff - No reservations necessary at restaruants - The food is actually quite good - Beautiful beach - no problem finding lounger chairs - comfortable beds - clean rooms - it is safe to walk off the resort - turn right, and in a short 10min walk you can visit a public park containing Mayan ruins (free) CONS: - to be clear, fortunately there are no real 'cons', but just little things to be aware of: - the mini fridges in the rooms are not restocked unless you ask - no servers on the beach or around the pool to bring drinks - balconies are quite small - poor selection of TV channels - buffet restaurant is not air conditioned HELPFUL SUGGESTIONS: - bring you own water bottles (there are no plastic bottles given out, just filtered water filling stations throughout the resort) - Be ready to pay the tourist tax at the hotel before you leave - I believe it's was $15 US per person - there is a tourist mall about a 5 min walk away (turn left from the main gate of the resort). You can pretty much find anything you may need (pharmacy, gift shops, sunglasses, Starbucks etc.) In conclusion, a great resort in my opinion and I would highly recommend it!

Everything in our vacations was perfect. Great Hotel, beautiful Beach, very kind staff, delicious food. If you need good Gym advice ask Fernando in the Hotel Gym. He is a good Coach and kindly helped us with many other questions.

Terrible food. Please avoid staying at this hotel unless they fully revise feeding approach of the guests. I have never stayed anywhere over the world in a place with worse food. Chef doesn't know how to cook. I could cook better and more tasty food from the same ingredients he had. We were 3 families for a 1 week holidays. Half of our relatives had stomach issues...
