After a two hour wait to cross the border, it was a welcome relief to finally arrive at the hotel. The reception was underwhelming; this was exacerbated as there was no fresh water available from the dispenser. We booked a ‘Priority Location Sea View Double Room’. We were situated in the Vanera block, at the back of the hotel. I was a bit confused, I thought our accommodation would be on the sea front. I was informed by the management that ‘Priority Location’ rooms are located on the top floor of each block. This cleared up any misunderstanding: the view from the room was the most incredible view I have ever experienced. The hotel’s location is magical and looks directly onto the mouth of the Bay of Kotor. The water is crystal clear; it is a pebble beach and the sea bed is rocky - don’t forget your beach shoes! However, please bear in mind that the hotel is situated in a residential area; the nearest pubs and restaurants (across the bay in Herceg Novi) can be reached via the water taxi at a rate of €15 each return. It is worth factoring this into your budget, quite an expense on top of a meal and drinks! The food was very nice and as expected for an AI buffet: grilled meats and fish, pizza, pasta, salads, desserts, ice-cream and theme nights. The beach bar served a range of pizzas, burgers, pastas and salads. Again, the drinks were as expected for mid-range AI: locally produced soft-drinks, beers, wines and spirits; fizzy wine and standard cocktails. The beer and wine are self-service in the beach bar and buffet restaurant. There is a shop located 100m from the hotel gates which sells an array of soft-drinks, beer, water and snacks. Our accommodation was nice, but basic. There was evident wear and tear: a few cracked floor tiles, grubby bottom of shower screen and a cracked partition on the balcony. The bathroom is small with an overhead shower and bath. There was no kettle or iron in the room, but there was a coffee machine. The safe was available for a daily charge of €3.50. The air conditioning was very good. There is a small fridge but, unfortunately, no mini-bar! There are water dispensers beside the lifts on each floor, I would recommend bringing a refillable water bottle. The hotel’s entertainment was extensive, a wide variety of activities aimed to suit all tastes: exercise classes, quizzes and archery to name but a few. The evening entertainment included folklore, live music and the popular ‘White Party’ - don’t forget to pack something white! Overall, we had a really chilled and relaxing holiday and recommend this hotel if you are looking for a good family-orientated AI package.
Fantastic hotel - stunning location Excellent room, clean and modern Animation team are amazing - so many activities, from friendly enthusiastic staff- pool party was perfect!
The hotel location is absolutely stunning, just across the border from Croatia, with amazing views. It is built on the side of a hill so expect steps and slopes. The rooms are great and cleaned daily, the bars and drinks again excellent with a superb animation team and so many activities. There are plenty of sunbeds although the pool area is cramped but you have the option of the private beach. Only criticism was the food, choice is good but regularly having to wait for freshly cooked lines and other dishes not overly hot. This was my only fault with the hotel. The water taxi across the bay to the local town is a must.
The hotel is ok.On arrival the reception staff seemed more focused on their phones than the clients. The biggest let down is the transfer from airport this was a 6 hour duration comming and going brochure said 45 mins.Booked priority room with tui that should have been closer to amenities but we couldn't have been further away.lift was also broken sea is a bit cold food gets repeative. But dont all inclusive hotels Hotel is very isolated and the evening entertainment is basic not up to the standard of others we have stayed in.Had to pay extra for real coke as the local coke tasted like water.Lots of steps i mean lots of steps all in all the hotel is a trier but the border hassle just makes this not worth the effort .Tui rep was non existent think she was stuck at the boarders
We are regular AI holidayers and usually stay in top 5 star AI hotels so that's the context I put this review in. We just had a really enjoyable week at Iberistar Waves Herceg Novi. 100% agree that the animation team makes this hotel, they are the life and soul of the place (along with the stunning mountain / sea views). The hotel overall is not the same level of luxury we've had at other AIs - more on that shortly - but the animators were the best we've ever had. All very proactive, constantly available, respectful, great with kids / teens / adults alike. I mainly spent time with the fitness team - Lido, Mira, Eshfir - all excellent, fun and a great range of sessions from yoga / pilates to spinning, zumba, cross fit and hiking...they pushed you and still made it fun, thanks for all the endorphins and good vibes! My husband and teen boys loved Adam, Mickey & Omar who organised lots of fun / sports activities like water polo, rifle shooting, ping pong, darts...again, great team who really made this holiday for my boys, thank you all. 5 stars for the animation team! Ok - the hotel itself. Firstly, it is a perfectly good hotel. Gorgeous scenery. Food very nice - we never struggled to find something fresh and healthy; it did get a little repetetive as others have said but that is typical of AI buffets, they do have theme nights every night (great seafood night with oysters!). Rooms basic but fine, very clean. Decent facilities. Never any issue at all finding 2 x sunbeds together by pool or beach, no matter time of day The only things that made me grade this 4 rather than 5 stars: - The overall "feel" is not quite as luxurious or extravagant as hotels we've stayed at in Crete or Turkey for example - Location quite cut off unless you pay quite a lot for taxi boat / taxis - double beds are two singles pushed together (with separate covers too!) - cocktails ok but not the best we've had at AI hotels. And the wine not the best...but drinkable! - very very bitey little fish in the sea if you don't keep moving! Funny, but it does hurt and they do draw blood sometimes, bitey little blighters! :) - Bit of a drainage smell around some areas & the toilets by the pool bit smelly but everywhere is v clean Worth noting as well that the general infrastructure in Montenegro is still developing, so factor in delays etc for excursions if at peak times. Tivat airport was quite an experience, but preferable to the chaos others had with the border crossings for Dubrovnik!
