Iberostar Waves Herceg Novi

We'd booked this hotel as part of a 2 hotel trip to Montenegro. The first 5 nights were spent at the Hyatt Regency over near Kotor and as that was a busy time doing lots of things we'd elected to come here for the last 4 nights to relax by the pool, utilise the All Inclusive and generally not do much at all. I'll start by saying that the staff were all lovely and hard working and were willing to help out where they could - they're a credit to the hotel. We arrived and parked up to check in, the staff were attentive and friendly but I was surprised to be asked to leave a €40 deposit for 2 beach/pool towels - that had to be paid in cash. Couldn't it just be billed to the room/charge put on the card? We paid that and were handed a couple of towels that, quite frankly, were about 3 years past their best before date. They just felt 'old' and had a greasy feel/smell to them - not a great start. We were then shown to our room - according to our booking our room was a 'sea view/priority location' room. OK so it did have the sea view but was about as far from everything as it could be. It felt like the furthest block back from the pool/bar/restaurants - probably great for noise, not so great for getting to anything - so I wouldn't class it as a 'priority location' - perhaps the hotel has different classifications. It also had a slight 'sewer' smell to it that we hoped would pass once the aircon was on and running (it didn't). Walked down to the pool area - that was completely rammed. Hmmm... OK not good, lets go check out the beach - also rammed... not looking good here either. As it was just after 1pm we went to the beach bar for some drinks/food... and frankly that was terrible. The soft drinks were just a bunch of bottles stuck on a table (like a teenagers party) and food looked dismal. The salad looked passable, but the rest of it I really didn't want to try, there were burgers cooked but stored in a pan with the lid on making them very 'sweaty' and wet. Wine was from a tap - red/white/rose. When I asked what the white wine was I was told 'white' - helpful. From there we went back to the pool bar and got a couple of drinks - Quickly learned to ask for named spirits (some were included within the All Inclusive package but you had to ask for them by name) and to not ask for a mixer as it was from a pump whereas there were bottles of Coca Cola etc nearby. The cocktails weren't great either, the pina colada was very watery and clearly not 'mixed' - just white rum with some sugary mixer poured on top. Despite being booked here for 4 nights we'd already decided at this point to check out early and go elsewhere. Went to dinner, food was standard buffet fare, some of it was 'ok', some not so good, some diabolical. There's probably enough choice that people can find something they enjoy but it felt more functional than anything else - eating to provide the calories rather than actually 'enjoying' the meal. Breakfast the next day was much the same, and we then spent the rest of the day away from the hotel. Had an early dinner that night (again, mundane but functional food) then hit the rooftop bar at opening time as it fills up quickly and there's very little room there. Then the next morning we were up earlyish, breakfast and checked out 2 days early. It's an OK hotel, and probably for the price point (can't actually recall what we paid) it's probably more than acceptable - but it was the last few nights of our 10th wedding anniversary holiday and we just wanted something a little more 'special' than this place can offer.

I had a wonderful stay at Iberostar Waves Herceg Novi! I really enjoyed my comfortable room with an amazing view, as well as the delicious and varied food at the restaurant. There was also a great selection of activities throughout the day. A big thank you to the animation team for always being in a great mood and creating such a fun and friendly atmosphere! The evening shows were fantastic, especially the Adam’s Family dance show. So energetic and entertaining! I would especially like to mention Star Camp. A huge thank you to Anna and Stefan for their enthusiasm, kindness and genuine love for children. It is clear that they truly enjoy their work and know how to create a fun and welcoming atmosphere for kids. A real highlight of the hotel! Special thanks as well to Bobana for helping me choose the tour and for her support throughout the whole process. I had a wonderful time and would definitely recommend this hotel, especially for families with children ❤️

I don't normally write reviews but feel I should say things about this hotel I wish I'd realised before booking. Firstly, the positives - the location is amazing. I don't think you can better the view and the staff, on the whole, are very nice and hard working. After that, I'm struggling. This did not feel like the 4* experience we paid for. Even tho (according to our rep who we complained to), we had probably the best room in the hotel, we've stayed in roomier Travelodges. It was so small, we couldn't walk about without standing sideways to get past the bed. If the heavy sofabed/chair in there had had to be used, no one would have been able to get to the small balcony. There is no dressing table area, just a slim shelf along the wall and only one plug (hidden behind the heavy chair bed). You only get a small coffee machine as this can fit sideways on! The bathroom was also so small, I could put my hand in the sink and shower whilst sitting on the loo! The hotel is very isolated. There is nothing around it. One of the main problems with the location is that it's a short day - the sun disappears at 4pm behind the mountain so if you like your sunbathing, please try another hotel! You get another 30 mins if you rush to the pool area with everyone else but after that, everyone's in shade. They could do with more room at the pool area but a lot of this is taken up by the unused Bali beds, which are ripped, broken and cost 50 EUR a day!! You could pay 15 EUR pp to get the taxi boat over to get to the sun and Herzeg Novi (where there is some life, bars, restaurants, old town etc) but over the course of a stay, this gets very expensive. It seems a lot to pay for a trip that's less than 10 mins. We didn't find the place terribly clean (see photos) and we had ants in the room Under the bed was never swept which could explain why. The food is OK - they are making an effort but it was often a bit tepid and samey. The drinks you get as part of the AI are dreadful. The wine on tap was undrinkable and the beer's pretty watery. The cocktails are just sugary syrup with any alcohol very hard to detect. Any mixers/soft drinks are unbranded. We had a couple of storms while we were there but the odd thing in this hotel is that if it rains, there is nowhere to go. The Bahia Bar which is the only inside bar is tiny. You are therefore a bit stuck in your room where, of course, you're not accessing the food/drink and hotel life. The other thing we didn't particularly like was that a lot of guests seem to smoke. Even tho you're outside, you can be affected by someone smoking (esp by the pool where the beds are so close together) and we wished that as in other hotels we've stayed in, there were designated smoking areas. So, overall, not a great experience sadly and certainly not 4*. A gorgeous view but it didn't quite compensate.

From start to the end of our holiday we loved it. We were given a perfect sea view to see the sun rise and set. We enjoyed the theme nights in the restaurant, breakfast is the same everyday with nice coffee. I was happy as aperol spritz were included, gin is gordans. We treated ourselves to a massage in the spa €70 per person, would recommend. The staff were amazing, we enjoyed the animation activities. We did a boat tour around boka bay from the lady who sells excursions by the pool. Towels can be hired for €20 and you get it back at the end of your stay. Highly recommend.

A very nice hotel set in a beautiful location on the bay of Kotor. It is however built into a hillside. This means it is not really suitable for people with mobility issues! We would like to give a shout out to the animation team, they really made our holiday. So thank you to Adam, Omar, Micky and Mira. They were all lovely, very friendly and professional. We wish them all well in the future. All the staff were very good. We were all inclusive and found the food and beverages on offer were of a high standard. We recommend booking any trips with the lady that has a small stall near the pool. She was very friendly and helpful and the trips not overpriced. Montenegro is a great place to visit and we would recommend considering this hotel for your stay.
