Holland House Residence

This lovely hotel (rebuilt) was once the Dutch consulate when Gdansk was a very wealthy trading port. It's perfectly situated on the main pedestrianised street just minutes from the waterfront, Granary Island and all the bars/restaurants and other sights. Taxis have to stop a short distance away because there's no car access. It has a great Georgian bar/restaurant below with 10% off for hotel guests and one of the few places willing to let people in a group pay separately for their food. The rooms are clean, spacious and elegant and there's a lift from the ground floor bar (tucked away beside the stairs.) As it overlooks the main street there was a little noise but the windows shut it out. One of the nicest hotels I've stayed in.

We spent an enjoyable 5 days here. It is very central and very convenient for much Gdansk has to offer. It is on the central street/square which means it's busy outside until early morning. However the double glazing is very efficient. It has a lift ( round the corner by the stairs as you come in), but some floors still have about 6 steps up and down. All the reception staff were helpful and the desk is staffed 24 hours a day. Taxis will drop you about 100 meters from the hotel as they are not allowed onto the pedestrian street its located on. The room was large and comfortable with single beds that can be moved together. The rooms had a safe and a small minibar fridge, and free shower gel and soap. The T8 FREE bus goes from nearby to and from the main station. There is a separate restaurant under the hotel and another 50+ within a couple of hundred meters! There is kettle and tea/coffee in the room and the (optional) daily housekeeping was very good.

Dark rooms even with the curtains opened. Only a fan and no air con. Cleaned when asked. Toilet flush not very good. Beds uncomfortable for a week's stay. Very central and quiet we found as room situated at the side of the square.

Holland House is a lovely little hotel in the the old town. It’s in a great location, staff are extremely friendly and the room was cosy and warm. We stayed in room 405 and enjoyed it 😊 Breakfast was tasty with plenty of choice. A great little get away for 4 nights and I would highly recommend this hotel.

The last of 5 hotels we stayed in during Ng our Poland trip. The most different from the rest. The hotel is above a restaurant so there isn’t really a typical hotel lobby at the first floor. I expected it to be not like a typical international chain type room, and indeed it isn’t. But the room is big and clean, with a view of the main street. It was New Year’s Eve and we got to see the fireworks right outside our window which was fantastic. The location is fantastic to all the interesting places. The breakfast is ala carte , so you order a set off the menu, and they are very good. Only 2 issues I encounter . There isn’t any luggage rack in the room. Strange that they don’t provide at least one . But this is not a big issue. The main issue I had was with the cigarette smoke smell. For the 3 nights we stayed, except for New Year’s Eve, each of the next 2 days at about 9pm onwards , the cigarette smell goes on for more than an hour. There must be a chimney smoking in another room. Extremely disturbing to us. Otherwise, everything else is great.
