Grand Hotel Acores Atlantico

Don’t book here coming from the US on an early morning flight. Checking is 3PM and they are very slow getting rooms ready.

Stayed in a triple room as a family of 3. The room had all the amenities you would expect, plus the daily bottle of water and Nespresso machine, which were very welcome. However, the room was far too small for 3 people and felt very cramped. There was no balcony and hardly any storage space, so could not properly unpack and we were constantly tripping over bags and cases. We were looking forward to the nightly turndown service with a chocolate left on our pillow, but did not receive anything for the first 5 nights of a 7 night stay, as the hotel had run out. Although not a major issue, it was, however, a disappointment. The bathroom was also small with no space to put things down, but the shower was very good and powerful. Breakfast was very good. We especially enjoyed the breads and smoked salmon, but the buffet lacked variety of certain items. All staff members were very helpful and friendly and the hotel is in a good position, in walking distance of many restaurants. Overall a pleasant stay, but the room was not 5* standard.

Our stay at this hotel was good but not great. It is within walking distance of downtown but not in the heart of the town, and the part of town it's in is not very scenic - it overlooks an industrial port. Our small balcony overlooked construction cranes, which was not what I expected. The gym and indoor pool were completely closed for renovations, so I can't comment on either one. The hotel will give you a pass to the sister property next door to use their pool, but you have to be sure to ask for access to the outdoor pool, or the sister property's front desk will immediately send you to the indoor pool. The sister property's outdoor pool is small, overlooks a busy street, and has extremely limited service for food and drink. Gran Hotel Acores Atlantico does have an excellent breakfast available. The rooms are very clean and quiet. The lobby bar is also a very nice place to relax. I think it's probably the best hotel on the island, but there is an opportunity for some other hotel or hotel group to open something better in the heart of downtown that avoids the shortcomings this one has.

We stayed at this hotel for a week in June. The staff were excellent and very responsive and helpful. The breakfast buffets were good with lots of selection and nice views when seated overlooking the water. The rooms were well appointed and as ours overlooked the harbour we were able to enjoy great views. A couple of small misses with housekeeping but nothing major. Location and proximity to restaurants, a food market and sights was also great. My only issue was we had a rental car and therefore felt we had to use the valet parking which was a little expensive. However it was very convenient and again the gentleman that took care of it provided excellent service so in the end maybe worth it. Overall I highly recommend.

We have just returned from a week's hiking trip to the wonderful Azores. We stayed the first night and last night at the Grand Hotel ACores Atlantico and have only good things to say about the hotel and the staff. The rooms are good size, quiet and have all the amenities you need, especially welcome were the USB ports which we didn't have at any of the other hotels we stayed at on the island and a kettle for late night tea. Breakfast service plentiful with lots of choice and helpful wait staff for special coffee or other requests. Staff very helpful with taxis and reconfiguring beds. Turndown service still gives a little chocolate - missing in most hotels these days. Location excellent right on the sea and 15 minutes from the airport. I would be most happy to recommend it and return sometime soon.
