Grand Hotel Acores Atlantico

Can't say enough good things about this hotel, especially its staff and food quality. Perfect location with City and Bay views, Clean, Quiet with all the amenities.

We had a great view from our balcony in a fabulous location overlooking the port and minutes away from historic Ponta Delgado. Service was excellent and staff were very friendly and attentive. The room was well-appointed and very comfortable. Bottled water, turndown service, and nighttime chocolates were among the amenities. The expansive buffet breakfast was adequate although the coffee other than the espresso was terrible. We ended up most days going to a cafe with a delicious Azorean bakery a block away. Many excellent restaurants within a 10 minute walk.

We stayed at this 5-star hotel for 2 nights and had €260 Euros and $260 USD in cash, along with essential travel documents, stolen directly out of our carry-on luggage inside our room while housekeeping was servicing it.We immediately filed an official report with the local police and contacted hotel management right away. It has now been 3 days, and the hotel has completely ignored us. This is completely unacceptable security and zero customer service for a luxury hotel. Do not trust them with your belongings! Do not stay at this hotel!!!

Grand Hotel Acores Atlantico is THE hotel to stay at if you want convenience in terms of location, and it's only about a 10 to 15 minute walk to Ponta Delgado where you will be eating most of the time. Its also great for pickup for tours as many tour companies will offer pickups here. The HIGHLIGHTS: - Breakfast. The spread is great and you get waterfront views! Big shoutout goes to Antonio though. He was such a bright light every morning welcoming me into breakfast, super professional and nice as well. I genuinely wanted to greet him every morning that I stayed! - The rooms. Theyre quite large comparatively and the beds are SO comfortable. I literally had the best sleep ive ever gotten on any vacation staying here. They also still do turndown service which I find extremely rare nowadays. They're also super clean. Housekeeping staff is a gem! - Staff is so nice, accommodating and professional. The concierge and front desk were always so courteous and nice. Most flights from the US will arrive in the morning but thats no problem. You can freshen up in the hotel lobby bathroom, leave your bags with the front desk and take a walk on the waterfront, wander into Old Town, get lost, eat a Bolo levedo and coffee, shop, and head back. They will call you whenever your room is ready. The standard at any hotel is usually 3 PM -- they called me closer to 2 PM which was a nice surprise. Theres also umbrellas in the front for those rainy days that the island gets. I would definitely stay here again the next time I'm in Sao Miguel!

We stayed at two properties of the hotel chain, first at Grand Hotel Acores in Ponta Delgado and then at Terra Nostra Garden Hotel in Furnas. Whilst the Grand Hotel Acores is officially rated as a 5 star hotel and the Terra Nostra as 4 star, in my view there was no major difference between the two hotels, if anything, the Terra Nostra hotel was the marginally better one. The Grand Hotel Acores was overall a decent stay with friendly service, nice rooms and a central location. Valet service, porters and the brand new swimming pool were most noteworthy. Where the hotel fell short in my view was the dining part specifically. Breakfast was far off a 5 star hotel with a rather dull buffet and some egg dishes to order. Quality wise also basic ( breakfast was actually much better at Terra Nostra Garden Hotel) For dinner the main restaurant was ok to good but nothing too memorable for the price and you find better local restaurants nearby. Net net, a decent stay but clearly not a 5 star hotel and the price per night is not really justified in my view.
